So far I've seen Hunt, Josh Barnett as rumored opponents, Shane Carwin was on twitter actively campaigning for the fight. Now hearing Fedor if his upcoming fight goes smoothly

The shocking news late Saturday that Brock Lesnar will return to the Octagon just 15 months after "retiring" from mixed martial arts and re-signing with WWE on a lucrative deal certainly came as a surprise to wrestling fans. The immediate question was obvious: Does this mean Lesnar is now retiring from the squared circle?

The short answer: No.

The longer answer: Well, let's look to WWE, which was quick to point out following the UFC announcement that Lesnar is not going anywhere despite his signing a deal to compete in the co-main event of UFC 200 on July 9.

"Brock Lesnar remains under contract to WWE," the company said Saturday in a statement shared with CBS Sports. "However, he has been granted a one-off opportunity to compete at UFC 200. Following this milestone event on July 9, Brock will return to WWE for SummerSlam on Sunday, August 21, live on WWE Network."

Though Lesnar stepping inside the Octagon again is still surprising, it should be noted that UFC president and WWE chairman Vince McMahon have at least a cordial relationship that has developed over the past five years. Back in 2011, White visited Stanford, Connecticut, to meet with McMahon at WWE headquarters. The two have also spoken highly of each other in the past, and WWE has not shied away from touting Lesnar's UFC history on its programming.

Considering Lesnar is on a limited-appearance contract for WWE despite being paid as a full-timer, the company is able to pick and choose its spots with him. He'll often appear on air for a couple months at a time, but even then, he is hardly a regular on WWE television and usually shows up on one or two shows prior to participating in one of the company's monthly pay-per-views.

One must wonder whether Lesnar had this allowance worked into his WWE deal or White had to come to an agreement with McMahon to sign and utilize Lesnar for UFC 200. Perhaps White has promised WWE promotion during UFC 200. Perhaps a talent trade was agreed upon and someone like Ronda Rousey -- or Conor McGregor -- could step into the ring at WrestleMania 33. (Rousey stole the show at WrestleMania 31 after making a cameo alongside The Rock, and McGregor has often spoken about his interest in WWE at some point in his career.)

Either way, this is what we know right now: Brock Lesnar will compete in the Octagon in July and a WWE ring in August. Outside of that, there's much to learn and still be determined -- such as who exactly he's going to fight in four weeks.

i'm loling so hard. WWE gets nothing out of this. They basically used this as a "please don't go" clause when Lesnar re-upped last year.

Lesnar held them hostage for more money, AND the chance to do something else while still under contract. Even more hilarious, he got both.

Amazing.

The financial state Vince was in at the time, as it was reported (don't hear much about it anymore though), he likely didn't have a choice if he wanted to keep Lesnar on TV.

If he puts Reigns over, no one will end up caring.

Only undefeated since the streak, mind you.
Yeah except losing in a Triple Threat like.... 4 months ago.

I wonder if this would be a one-off deal or him leaving the WWE. One-off then w/e, it's mostly meaningless. But if he's leaving WWE, then he's leaving undefeated. That would be a massive waste, would be a real shame to leave that on the table unused.
Undefeated? He lost the first match of his return for crying out loud.

Typically when you talk about wrestlers being undefeated, it's specific to losing a decision. Lesnar did lose at Summerslam, which I forgot, but he passed out in a screwy finish, which I'm assuming the booking did its job since I didn't remember off-hand.

Feel bad for Ariel, sucks White is so petty. Hopeful it's just a short term thing.

I think there's pretty big upside on both UFC & WWE's part. Hopefully this deal does help get Ronda involved in next Mania.

Most of all I'm happy for Lesnar. There's very few entertainers or athletes that actually maximize their earnings when they have leverage on a billion dollar company.

I'm not trying to be that guy, but just another reason why Lesnar should have never got the streak. The guy was going to always be a part-timer. The guy was always going to want to go back to UFC to fight. He's an ultimate competitor. Nothing wrong with that.

I think the streak should have gone to someone who was going to wrestle every day for the company.

And Lesnar knows he's in the best position in the world. He's a mega draw who simply doesn't care if he does anything again for the rest of his life. He could go off grid and just disappear for all he cares. So when he goes in with his demands... you take it or you leave everything. There are very few people in the world that can do that.

Lesnar beating the streak would have been fine if they had it go anywhere. Nah, instead let's build him up as this unstoppable champion who loses via cash in and then have a nothing feud with Undertaker over said streak.

Let's be honest, even if he loses, it's not going to hurt his stock or character. He's Brock Lesnar...he could still murder anyone on the roster with ease. Losing to another mma fighter isn't going to make him look weak.

Depends how he loses. Of course it can happen to anyone, but what if he gets knocked out cold in brutal fashion? Not talking about a simple TKO, but a straight 'ol KO.

Wouldn't that make his "aura" upon returning to the WWE just a tad bit different?

Not imo, only because he's way more legit than anyone on the roster by leaps and bounds.

Great news.

Brock never really finished what he started in ufc. The hunger is still there.

Good for him, and very happy for him.

^^ So he's going to finish it in a fight that doesn't matter? Let's not kid ourselves. This is for the dollars. That's all. If he wanted to "finish what he started" then he'd want the title.

There is a 3 or 4 fighter backlog for the title.

Brock would have to earn it, he's not getting a shot right off the bat coming off a brutal loss.

Brock is a really proud man and he doesn't want his mma career to end on a 2 fight loosing streak, he knows he wasn't at 100% back then and he wants to prove it to everybody and to himself.
