I think one of the biggest things Rod as done is this.

"It starts with Roddy. He shows a lot of belief in us, and it kind of just trickles its way down," van Riemsdyk said. "When he says he knows we're a playoff team, he knows we can make a run and do some damage, you believe it in his voice. That's huge, and we've got great leadership."

They still haven't made it so I won't count on it until there is an "X" next to their name in the standings and things can change in a hurry over these last 7 games, but the guys believe and that's the first time in a long time I feel the team has had that mentality. Even in prior years, whether it was early in the season or late, I always felt the team just didn't believe in themselves. Even last year when they were in a playoff spot, they didn't have that mentality as far as I could tell. I get that winning helps in that regard, but even what S1C2 said above, the guys seemed to be buying into it even when things weren't going their way.

I think the reason they didn’t feel that way last year was because they couldn’t get a single game that made them feel confident about their goaltending. Let alone three months worth of solid work featuring almost zero bad goals, or poorly timed goals that killed any momentum.

I like Rod but it feels like no one remembers what really happened last year.

That's fair, but you seem to be ignoring what everyone on the inside, including the players, are saying about Rod and just chalking it up to better goaltending (at least it's coming across that way).

No doubt improved goaltending is a component to their success, but even Rod (IMO) has a hand in that.

I’m avoiding what they because they were sick of Peters and wanted a players coach? I do disregard it because new and fun is new and fun. Of course they’re going to say that. It’s been the narrative from day one, from the top down. We’re going to be different than Francis and Peters, because we know the players and fans were sick of it and were for some reason blaming on those two.

Who cares, it works. Just seems pretty obvious that’s the way they were putting it out there. They’re winning after ten years of losing. Of course everyone is happy and loving how it’s going.

It doesn't have to be as black and white as you are making it out to be. We'll just disagree and move on. As you said, who cares as long as it works.

I think the biggest thing is Rod understands that when you play "all out", when you put your heart and soul into the effort, mistakes are going to happen. He doesn't really punish mistakes, even repeated one. It does feel like he expects the players to learn from their errors, but accepts the downside of the "try hard" piece of the narrative.

Best Case: Rod turns out to be a pretty good coach.
Worst Case: Rod is a horrible coach and we are in line for a top 5 pick again next year.
Probable Case: Coaching is a bit over-rated and the Canes will continue to be a bubble team until they add more talent and fix the goaltending.

Are you a wizard

Being negative a-hole means that you're not an a-hole at all but the opposite of that.
