Surprised to see AZ, and Columbus in the "middle class"

I don't see how Minnesota is near the bottom. I'm personally not a fan of their drafting at all. But they seem to make the playoffs every year. Their back end is strong. Though Suter and Koivu are aging.

95% of the "darkest" comes from how Vancouver fan HF users are frustrated with Brian Benning. They won't entertain a positive thought about their team until he's gone -- no matter how many good young prospects the team acquires. They simply don't see any chance of success as long as he's running things. There are many threads about it on the Vancouver board.

Minny’s mediocre with an outlook of likely decline. If Suter ages like Lidstrom they’ll stay afloat though.

Amazing how much everyone ****s on Mtl. I'm sure they won't be nearly as bad as some of you expect.

Have you seen their center depth? It's not real it doesn't exist and they have ONE prospect worth talking about and even then they left better guys on the board.

How is Calgary in the bottom 10?
I could see not being very high on them as a whole tbh. The real question is what kind of person actually puts Toronto down and seriously thinks that’s a realistic option.
Get ready to hear all about how GOOD the maple leafs are for the next decade HF. I’m sure a lot of you are soooo looking forward to it

Not the fault of the OP, as he had to omit someone from each poll, but it is a bit of a problem that Chicago can't get positive votes and Winnipeg can't get negative ones.

The site should allow for 31 options, as it's a 31 team league. So I'm not blaming the OP. But I know I would vote Chicago up out of the basement if I could. And I know Winnipeg would get some hater votes, just like Toronto is clearly getting.

Lol at Penguins. They are bottom-5 in 5 years.

At the end of 5 years, sure there's a possibility that things are over for now and we're looking at a rebuild.

But for most of the next 5 years we're going to the play-offs and we'll be among the Cup favourites at the start of season for at least the next two.

EDIT: You should really wait a few days for results before making a thread about your findings.

To all the people saying "team xxx shouldn't be bottom 10", you realize you have to replace that team and put another team bottom 10. And when you look at that middle tier, there's not a lot of "bad" teams to put in the bottom 10.

Results are slightly biased, when everyone can prank vote for Toronto as a bottom 10 team, but no one can prank vote Winnipeg as a bottom 10 team. Toronto probably deserves higher in the duel rankings in this thread. Vice versa with Chicago.

Oh well, good thread OP

Surprised to see us that high.

OP asks: "who will rack up the least points, be near the bottom, will not contend over that 5 year span."

We have finished pretty much bottom the last 3 years. We have now lost 3 out of our 5 top scorers (Sedin, Sedin, Vanek) from last season. We have brought in a couple of ~3rd line UFAs.

Yes, we have some nice prospects who may impact in the NHL this year and next, but we're not winning much this year or the year after. Maybe even the year after that. I suspect bottom 5 finishes for 3 out of the 5 years OP is asking about.

After ~20-21 then yes it becomes a bit of a different proposition, assuming we don't implode or cook a few key picks.

Edmonton has had ample opportunity to right the ship. The front office needs to prove they know what they are doing before I believe they have a bright future.

No one wants to think their outlook is bad in the next 5 years. But reality is that a lot of prospects people are hyped about will barely make an impact in that timeframe. The average NHLer probably hits his prime around 23-25 if not later. Most great teams have a core with mainly 23-30 year old players.

Tampa added top picks 10 years ago upon which a lot of their success is built upon. Nashville drafted Josi in 08, Weber and Rinne a long time ago. Winnipeg was rebuilding forever before taking off. Etc.
Predictions will certainly be off for some teams, but too many also believe teams full of 18-22 year olds will have big success.
Good point. While it's true you won't win without a core of homegrown talent, the team won't come together without experience and leadership.

Those potential 'better guys' are wingers, which most agree aren't as valuable as centers. Check out the trade proposal board -- even top wingers like Pacioretty won't get equivalent top centers because the center position itself carries a greater value.

How much of it's true is another debate, but we can't rank forwards regardless of position here, but then rank them according to position over there.

Look at that first line. LOOK AT IT.
