Bridgeport Islanders Discussion 2024-25: Where's the Farm?

Was at the game last night and here are my observations:
Bolduc-good shot not great defensively
Odelius-nice d zone exit on one play but still needs another 1/2-1 year in the AHL to develop
Foudy-Good overall game! Will never likely be more than a 4th liner in the NHL but better than Fashing, Martin and probably Kyle Maclean IMO
Jeffries-okay game one PP assist otherwise not too noticeable out there

No one else on Bridgeport is worth talking about unfortunately as the team lost 6-4!!

Saw that Liukas scored. Was just his 1st of the season.

That's a player who, while mucking things up in the Finnish Liiga and showing good thorn-in-the-side value at the WJC, has really fallen off the prospect map.

Both he and Kuefler seemed to have been drafted to be possible Matt Martin replacements. Neither looks to be anywhere on that path.

BTW, Justin Gill has 3-10-13 in 14 games for the ECHL affiliate. He also has 1-5-6 in 17 AHL games, but had 4 assists in his first 5, so he tailed off quite a bit over a 12-game phase and is back in Worcester.

However, Finnish Dman Mathias Rajaniemi, drafted late a good while back, only has 1-3-4 and -1 in 34 games there.

The silver lining to the AHL season is that the likelihood of Chris Lamoriello ascending to the Isles GM spot is now remote. Not impossible unfortunately, but quite unlikely.

I realize team defense is a problem up in Bridgeport. Some of this can be attributed to Cholowski, George, and Grant Hutton missing from their lineup. What can't be written off is the amount of times they have looked totally unprepared to be on the ice. Last night Henrik Tikkanen got his doors blown off in the 1st period and was pulled 12 minutes into the game after giving up 5 goals on 11 shots. The Bridgeport problem isn't just the Isles prospects underperforming, it's also the AHL vets that play for them. Other than Pinho and Chris Terry, the others look like they're there just to collect a paycheck once a month. How many times do they have to get blown past from a center ice faceoff to watch them give up multiple goals in less than 2 minutes.

I'm looking for a bit of info on Marc Gatcomb. Do people think he is going to stick with the big club? does he have any kind of future as a pk'er or is he strictly the 4th liner who hits everything that moves?

We have a Marc Gatcomb Appreciation Thread!
I was impressed with him in our final preseason game. I saw some plays he made in that game that showed some offensive skill.
In the games here I was also impressed with his decisions, always made the smart choice.
We'll see.

Was just coming here to post this about Tikkanen.

Holy Toledo, they were out of this thing before it really started.

The one goal was a 5-on-3 power play to boot.

I had thought Foudy was looking decent recently but overall, just amazing that this team is so doggone beatable so often.

Bashing Lou is getting old so let’s talk about his son Chris and how he’s developing our prospects at Bridgeport.

Our prospect pool has been weak and admittedly a number of them aren’t even at Bridgeport, but two of our B level prospects are there, Dufour and Maggio.

Let’s look at the progression of their stats at the Bridge.
Dufour: 21 goals to 15 to 6 (so far this season)
Maggio: 16 goals to 3 this season.

Sure their teammates suck and we can blame the coaching too but how about Chris?

Don’t forget. If Lou somehow stays, do you really think he’ll fire Chris?

Edit: These guys unfortunately are no longer B prospects

The Lamoriello need to be banished from our organization NOW!.. It's pathetic this ownership is allowing this to continue.

Odelius and Jefferies are the only 2 with potential NHL career on that Bad News Bears bunch. Just bring them up now to try and preserve any hope for them . The rest of the team just

The reason Jefferies isn't up now is that he's a winger. Last year was a flash in the pan for MacLean. He's awful. NYI can try Jefferies out when they've got a competent 4th line C. I know Gatcomb is listed as a C, but his effectiveness so far has been as a wing on the forecheck.

This is one reason I would kind of like Jack Drury as a return piece in a deal for Nelson. He'd stabilize next year's bottom 6 at a good price point. Of course, the Avs probably want to keep him for the same reason. Still, it's never a good idea to waste years of prime MacKinnon and Makar, and Nelson is a very good fit there imo.

Foudy the only one playing well over there with 10 points in his last 6 games. Does the organization look at that black hole and are ok with guys like finley, nelson and eiserman developing there?
Sorry for those that like Lou but it’s a big part of why he must go. Chris is tanking that organization
