The one positive that Holmstrom has is speed. If the Isles want to get quicker, there is an opening for him if he is good enough. Wish he had a nasty edge though. Isles need speed and more agitator types. Basically players that are hard to play against.

Come on, that's the Modus Operandi NOW. We need SPEED and SKILL, we already have grit. SLOW grit.

I hsve always loved Swedish players ever since Borje Salming came in as a rookie and started the Euro invasion. Especially the ones that would go into corners and break eggs. The ones that don't, I have no time for. Speed, skill, and grit. Hopefully Simon will show this.

borje salming. blast from the past....highly under appreciated and talked about when hockey "pundits" discuss all time great defensemen

I agree and also really liked Salming (he and Peter Forsberg are two of my all-time favorite non-Isles).

You're saying we need:

then he should make the roster to fight off all the old farts on this roster. again, no excuses.

I'm afraid it doesn't work that way. Who makes the roster is based on who has one way deals and who has not, and he has done nothing to warrant a place on the big club.
and i believe the better players should make the roster.

Unfortunately that doesn't work. You cannot just put the best players in because that means exposing other assets that will be lost, which would lead to an even more depleted prospect pool and depth.

That strategy works for making tournament teams, like the World Championship or Olympics, not for running a franchise year in and year out.

he must make the roster next season. No excuses.

Where?

No less than Bailey, Wahlstrom, and Palmieri are still under contract on the right side next season.

Even if you move him to the left side, you've got Lee and Beau and Martin and Johnston. And Parise is actually a cheap player who want to keep around at this juncture.

For him to have any possibility at this squad next year, he'd either have to push hard from below in an almost unexpectedly strong manner or bodies have to be moved.

Granted, that could be happening soon.

Why are we clamoring over a 20 y/o wing in the AHL who is producing at half the rate of JJ Peterka, or Jakob Pelletier? Not exactly a burning issue, is it?

because this team has a youth issue as well. not like he'd slot right in anyways because Trotz would probably bench him.

Holmstrom has had a good year overall, progress has been made but I believe he needs to at least start year next year in Ahl. This is essentially the first real season he has had in North America.

Was at the game vs Wolfpack yesterday. Overall a good team performance, though no real individual player really stood out. Appleby put on a strong performance in net.

I saw the Wolfpack in Hartford last week against Rochester. Amazing to me the Wolfpack are in 1st place. Nothing outstanding about their roster or the way they play.

I thought the same thing yesterday. Nothing special. Sound tigers basically kept them to the perimeter the whole game. No real high danger chances allowed.

For me, it's how Bolduc and Holmstrom progress the remainder of the year. These are 2 pieces we need to add to the big team in a year or 2. Wotherspoon is having a good stats year, how has he looked. Hutton was okay when he was called up too. Some players to keep an eye on. Not superstars but can be useful players in the NHL.

I agree, of our young players if Bolduc, Holmstrom and Raty can become regulars in our NHL lineup in the next 2 years and guys like Hutton, Wotherspoon can be fill ins if injuries happen. It's not too bad, not great but I think those 3 can become solid starters at NHL level.

My wild card is Wilde, I really like him. I know he had this issue with the Covid shit and hasn't played great oversees. But I have real high hopes for him.

Oh also Dufour, not sure about this kid. I love that he's killing it right now. But he is playing against younger talent. But hey, he's scoring hope that can translate at the AHL level next year. Maybe, just maybe we have a sleeper stud here.

The B-Islanders looking as inept as the parent team. Trailing Cbarlotte 3-1 after 1. Outshot 17-6.

Today they dressed 7 defensemen. All the goals they gave up were self inflicted wounds. Giveaways, failed clears, skating into each other, failed to tie up the man in front of Corey Schneider.

I had to laugh when you mentioned the B-Islanders.

That’s the version of last year’s team that we’ve been seeing at Belmont all year.

Charlotte’s turn to be sloppy. Isles tie it at 3 after 2 periods. Outshot again 10-9.

Terry (who took a nasty cross-check to the mouth), Durandeau, and Andreoff with the goals.
