Post-Game Talk: Brick WOLL FTW ! Leafs WIN in OT

In Montreal and went to the toilet seats game for fun. Didn’t cheer. Kept tabs on the leafs game of course and what the hell happened??? Seems like Sammy sucked and Woll kept them in it.

Knies had a massive game. Couple of snipes let’s go!

I didn't expect Domi and Kampf to work together but hey, glad it did. Stick the two most one-dimensional forwards (in opposite ends) on the same line, why not.

I didn't see much chemistry there tbh. It was Knies and Domi on the goals. Kampf still looks kinda lost to me. He didn't look good 5 on 5 or on the pk.

So Knies and Domi cooking there late. Could there be something there? Put Kamph in between them, Jarnkrov to occupy a spot with JT and Willy, and bang, three lines?

Just finished watching. 1st was frustrating. Sammy was snoozing big time... Like he wasn't even close to stopping any of those... Concerning.

I don't know what to think. I felt team defence was terrible, untimely pinches leading to unnecessary chances against.

Liked the offensive chances that were generated. I mean, made Johansson look like an all-star but that's how we do. Few too many centre crests for my liking.

Domi stopped standing still! Great skill from Knies. Thought 34, 88, 91 were rocking all night. Call out to 64 who I thought made an impact. We do need 16 to get back to his wizarding ways at some point.

Does nobody notice how insanely good at passing Tavares is? Very good playmaker. Very underated aspect of his game.

Kampf should NEVER be anywhere near a third line. Your third line center needs to be able to provide secondary scoring.

Just finished. That game was hard to watch after the first and before the flurry of goals in the late third. Great possession time tonight tho, what was it 55ish shots?? Also, did Woll just steal the net, man he looks a lot better than Sammy right now.

I changed the channel in the 3rd period when we were down 3-1, and then Knies scored.

The right team won. Leafs deserved that win. Outplayed Tampa handidly.
Stay with Domi-Kampf-Knies
Mix up the top 2 lines but honestly I would stay with the loaded top line.
Woll's net for now. He was terrific.

On defence, Keefe basically ran 2 pairs in the 3rd. Rielly-Brodie and McCabe-Liljegren played about 8 mins, while the 3rd pair played just under 4 mins. Even when trailing, Keefe doesn't trust Klingberg.

The D tonight was more than fine. TBL had like 4 shots in the first 15 or so minutes of the game. It wasn't even close 5 on 5.

I don't understand what people want from this team defensively. Every team has break downs and let's up chances. The difference is that good defensive teams have a good goaltender when they do break down. Rarely ever is it a perfect game with less than 20 shots. If Samsonov didn't have an ECHL level performance, we would be saying they were great defensively. They didn't let in a single goal after the goaltender change.

Yup they started slow but last 2 games they have been fine. The 3rd today is a good indicator of how they should run the pairs. A top 4, and a clear 3rd pair. Klingberg should be an offensive specialist and thats it

If any Leafs fan is upset with this game, I don't know what to say. They positively dominated this game.

Their best game of the season. Samsanov is why this game got to OT

Nylander needs to be signed immediately. Elite top line talent and he wants to be a Leaf

He's been so good. There was this one play in the 2nd where he just stick handled past a lightning player, and got a good chance out of it. I'll try to find it. The Tampa player was close to him too. Some serious skill.

I thought they played great - outplayed a very talented Tampa squad by a wide margin, it was only so close/sketchy because Sammy let in 3 goals on 4 shots to start the game. If Woll started it would have been a comfortable, convincing victory. The boys were flying out there, dominating the puck, making a tonne happen offensively. IMO that’s the best hockey they’ve played this year, a strong, strong performance.

Also, it has to be Woll’s net to lose now.

Meh I'll run with that line for now. Kampf is absolutely lost on a line with Reaves. Kampf is a fine player who serves a purpose. He shouldn't be on the 3rd line but it's better than playing him with Reaves.

I was ready to go on a tirade of how our coach does not seem to know how to counter lines. After 2 periods you should know who has it and who doesn't, what is working and what is not working, why are we not making changes based on ice performance?

...and then Knies makes coaching look amazing, (or did he?)

The overtime, was all ours, Matthews was close to putting it away twice, and we just seem to be a different team when its 4 on 4. Total skill dominance.

I honestly think the Whopper combo I had for breakfast had a higher IQ than Keefe.

Matthews and Marner playing another 25 minutes. Despite not accomplishing much. Does he not have any other trick than playing the living shit out of those two?

If he does I haven't seen it.

There's something fundamentally flawed with the way the Leafs play hockey. All this giving up early leads and coming from behind. I don't care what mathematical mumbo jumbo you use to try prove scoring the first goal doesn't matter.

Here's a newflash: Teams that score first tend to win more than they lose.

That's a fact this squad of slack jawed Sally's doesn't seem to care for. It's amazing how they can just sit back for two periods and accomplish nothing. Then pour it on in the final minutes of the third.

I'm sure all the real cup contenders play the same way.
