It's Christmas all over again. I'd say my faith in MLSE has been restored but I didn't have much to begin with. Great day for the Leafs.

This makes no sense at all. The other Bryan should've been fired. Considering a trade for Gay with one of our best young players and the Raptors have consistently been one of the worst teams in the league since BC came here.

Brian Burke had only a couple of years to fix the mess JFJ created and ya he made a few mistakes with signing Komisarek, Connolly and trading to many assets for Kessel but I still think he's the best available GM out there to fix the Leafs.

This makes NO SENSE at all. MLSE only cares about the Leafs. Eff the Raptors, TFC and Marlies.

this was the last thing on my mind... and of course it ****** HITS ME ON A WEDNESDAY MORNING...

Everyone, say hello to the new General Manager of the Toronto Maple Leafs:

I don't even know what to think since I've read that he's fired.

There's so many potential reasons why he could've been fired.

-Wouldn't give enough for Luongo and management was pissed
-About to overpay for Luongo and management was pissed
-Fired simply because he wasn't getting the job done, but the timing of it is so freaking bizarre

Also, what happens with Carlyle now? Will Nonis even stick around? Nonis probably shared the same vision as Burke so maybe management will get rid of him too...

Also, I've already mentioned this on the main board, but I am scared ****less that the owners will make an absolutely stupid move so we can slide into 8th spot.

I am genuinely scared about what this means for the future of the team. Was it over Luongo? Are we going to pay an extremely high price to acquire him? Are we in for another round of dark JFJ days (meddling ownership group)?

The timing of this stinks

For all we know Burke wanted to trade the Farm to acquire Luongo.

Rogers said no.

yeah i'd have to imagine its either something wanted to do or not want to do that was the final straw

crazy, depending on what the Luongo deal (if happens) ends up being will be very telling

we all know Nonis was pushing for Luongo

And what identity might that have been? >_>

Something we were yet to find out. Burke just put in place his own guy behind the bench finally, started to acquire players that he was interested in.

Do we now get another 4 years of a circus act while the new GM tries to implement a team in his own identity?

I'd love to see the numbers on GM hiring and firings and what the turnaround time is like for playoff success.

Rogers said no.

It could have just as easy been Rogers wanted to trade the farm for Luongo and Burke said no. Then was fired. I see this as more likely.

ok guys, I just heard from someone very close to the situation that Burke was fired: "NOT FOR HOCKEY REASONS!!!"

Can't be more specific so take it for what its worth but i have been around for years and don't post made-up ********.

Wish i could say more right now.

Burkites are crying...I think I will celebrate by going out and getting a case of Heineken. Oh can I drive you to the airport Burkie?

Don't worry we've heard this before - once the new guy is hired they will all immediately begin the "OUR NEW GM IS THE BEST BURKE WAS AN IDIOT I ALWAYS SAID HE WAS" Campaign.

Burkites should all personally apologize to me :)
