You also do it when the player is nowhere near giving what the salary is warranting. Not having Gallagher on the team and being obligated to play him because of his contract is worth more than the salary cap space.

Exactly. One thing every top team have in common is they don't have one bad contract. I mean, yes, They have a lot of hugh contract, but they don't have players grossly overpaid vs what they brings on the table. Wich Gallagher is maybe overpay by 4 millions. I don't see a player in Florida or Winnpeg ovetpaid by 4 millions over

I don't think looking at points show why Gally is worst than those. I mean. Anderson bring speed, physicality, play on PK, but yes, he is overpaid. Still, I prefer Anderson for those reason

Gally and Dvorak are just liability. Dvorak brings faceoff, gally energy. Thats it, so thats expensive 6,5 and 4,5 for those element

We are stuck with Gally for one more year and can only pray for a miracle after that (LTIR). We got 1st for taking 1 year of Monahan 6M. There is no way we get rid of him in a trade even if we retain, he is so bad.
Hopefully they use him as 13th fwd next year.

Hey how about this: all five are bad and should be churned through at the earliest opportunity.

Unfortunately we have too much roster turnover coming up this summer so some of these underperformers and underachievers will stick around like barnacle.

Different reality now than then. The cap was super compressed at the time. Now the cap is projected up and way up, so the cost to dump salary won't be nearly as expensive as it was in a cap environment that was flat.

You're right, he has more points than those 4 incredible players, he must be good. At least Dach has the excuse of coming off a missed season and a major surgery. The other 4 are all among the worst in the league and can all go ASAP.

1. He has a complete NMC and cannot be sent to Laval.
2. His legacy will take a huge hit if his play keeps going downhill which I believe he doesn't want. Bottom line- Gallagher is 100% a hard worker but he simply can't play at this level any longer.

I'm sure these are the same hockey geniuses who said Jonathan Drouin wouldn't get another NHL contract a few years ago.

Gallagher has basically done what was expected of him and has put up a 30 or so point pace while not hurting the team defensively. He's not worth close to his contract and I can't wait until it is off the books, but the team has bigger issues than Gallagher right now.

The issues are we haven't had a decent second line all year and somehow HuGo can't find a better player than Pezzetta to play in our bottom six until Heineman is back. Without a respectable second line that can score, you need bottom six guys like Gallagher to produce more offensively which is a recipe for disaster since he has been the same guy offensively since 2021.

...Gallagher IS an issue, imo...he does hurt the team defensively; not because he's not "trying hard" but because he's too broken down to be anything else but a liability out there most nights, offensively & defensively...the best case scenario with him is that he goes on LTIR and free up his Cap Hit while giving his spot to a young player who needs the NHL ice time...it's sad but true...

Those 2 were bought / moved because they were causing issues in the locker room. Not saying Gally is playing great but he’s probably one of the few vets that can tell Slaf to stop slacking and earn his TOI/salary
