It would be a nice fit with the Oilers. Obviously Habs would need to retain 50% off the contract.
What can work
I don't see Gallaghers current play edging anyone out of the current Oilers top six. 3.25 million(6.5 is ridiculous) for a 3rd liner is a luxury the Oilers just can't afford. Sure the hell won't be trading a Bouchard/Broberg/1st for that

Habs are not retaining 50% on Gallagher.I would do our 1st 2021 & b prospect @ 50% retention.
You clearly have no clue. 30 goal scorer, on a low scoring Habs team non the less, with great intangibles at 3.25 from 29 to 35 is horrible? More like a pipe dream for any team
Now that is a good explanation. I fully agree that it is a ridiculous ask for the Habs and probably way to costly for a team like the Oilers. Adding a bit of context when making hard claims like Gally at 50% being a horrible contract sure helpsSigh.
Listen, you have to get a grip. I really like Gallagher, but Habs fans pitching him, or Cary Price to the Oilers just aren't thinking straight. Edmonton cannot take on long term contracts for veteran players. Their salary structure does not allow for it. Once they signed Hyman, RNH and Nurse those possibilities went out the window.
Gallagher gets paid $6.5 million AAV per year until 2027. You think Montreal is going to eat $3.25 Million for the next five years? Do you think the Oilers who have ZERO cap room can take him on? It is a horrible contract for the Oilers. It is a ridiculous ask for the Habs to eat that kind of term and dollars. Then add the proverbial cherry on top by demanding Bouchard in return. The entry level contract 22 year old defenseman who is going to anchor the Oilers right side for the next decade. The whole idea is just... dumb.
The Oilers need to improve on defense, they probably still need a 3C (McLeod's recent play not withstanding) and a long term solution in goal. There aren't enough assets or cap space to chase down a 29 year old RW.
I was going to light you up for asking for Bouchard.. again. I see a number of people beat me to it. I think the idea that Bouchard will ever end up in a Habs uniform can be put to rest. No chance. No how.
Oilers ain’t taking Gallagher . Habs aren’t trading him any time soon .
Last couple has been 23-24
We don't need Toffoli.. unless he's a RW that Shoots right
I'd pay a 2nd for Chia
He is signed for 6 including this yearLol.. let's take a step in the right direction as a franchise.. first step, retain 50% of Gallagher's contract for the next 7yrs.................
Back to the drawing board sir.. back to the drawing board!
I think for sure they could trade Gallagher, but his value has never been lower right now . I wouldn’t be a good time to move him .Your right on the first part but if they can ship him out they will.

He is right nowyes I an sure Gallagher would have a hard time outplaying Yamamoto or Kassian
Toffoli is a right handed shot who’s played the vast majority of his hockey life as a RW. He only plays LW on the Habs because they are deep on the right side.
He is right now
Kassian 16GP 3G ES Goals 3.2 million
Yamamoto 20GP 3 ES Goal 1.175 million
Puljujarvi 20GP 6 ES Goals 1.175 million
Combined 12 ES goals for 5.55 million
Gallagher 23GP 1 ES Goal 6.5 million
Gallagher will never see the ice on the power play(just like Yamamoto hand Kassian).
You know as players get older their production declines, right? I'm using ES goals because the Oilers don't need him at all on the PP when they are running at 37.8 percent.hahaha the fact that you are using ES goals just shows you have no clue what a player like Gallagher brings.
Gallagher is a top 20 ES goal scorer since 2018 ( NHL Most Even Strength Goals Since 2018 | StatMuse)
