Player Discussion Brendan Gallagher: all heart, no hands

Well his head certainly bounces when he gets dropped on it. We've seen that. What we haven't seen is a player with enough gas in the tank to even win a race to a loose puck and certainly scoring goals is no longer part of his repertoire. He's going to make stupid money for a stupid term to crash the net without the puck and get dummied by larger opponents until his body decides it can't take anymore.
 
Like I always said , Bergevin is a terrible GM when it's time to give extensions.
The case of Gallagher was way too early to extend , Bergevin should have waited until this offseason to sign him , because Gallagher wouldnt have cared and nobody in the league would have offered that awful contract in a flat cap.

It's not like he's not trying. It's just that everything he does turn into nothing. He can score 40 points in a regular season but at that price people should expect more than ''stun petit warrior''. Also he's a terrible playoff performer. Shutdown line or not , at this price he should still give offense.

He's a slow skater
He's small
His passing is under average.
His shots selections are 1 of the wors in the league.
He shoot the puck like a muffin.
He's always gassed out even in a 20sec shift.
He has a terrible injury history with his hands.

Now if Barginbin waited we could have signed him for 4.75m for 5 years.

The worst thing all in all of this is that Gallagher won't age good at all.

Gallagher wins the majority of his board battles. He's also led the way for Montreal in forcing turnovers on the forecheck, and is exceptionally strong at getting into passing lanes and slowing the play down in the neutral zone--which are all characteristics that have allowed Montreal to succeed and make the Finals this year. It's quite something that his play--which has so clearly been integral to Montreal's tactics and success--is seemingly lost on many.

That entire line is not playing the same way they do in the regular season. They are playing far more defensively as a whole. Often they seem like forecheckers on a PK.

Gallagher is expected to score goals and he isnt doing it. 30 goalscorer in the regular season and then produces like a bottom a forward. Hes supposed to be the one to get the offense going at his price.

His apologists say that he performs a valuable shut-down role and that's all well and good but a player who expects to earn north of $6 million a year also needs to score. If scoring is no longer on the menu then we need to be losing about a million per season off that contract. You only pay big money for scoring. Everything else you can find cheaply.

Talks about shutdown line , he's been playing with the same center for 4 years.
It's a terrible excuse.
That entire Tatar/Danault/Gallagher should have been ufa until free agency to see where we go.

Yes, quite amazing that of those three players the only one they're going to let walk is the one who can actually still hit the back of the net on occasion.

Wouldnt count Danault as coming back as for as we know. If he refused that deal last offseason , I won't be surprised if he hit the ufa market , with RNH signed , centers are rare and team that needs center Vegas/Colorado who are already playoff bound will pay him more than us.

I want to keep Danault but anything above 4m is just wasted money and he will eat KK icetime until KK is considered a bust.
 
Gallagher needs to better manage his energy to be able to contribute more offensively. I feel that lately, he's been wasting way too much energy on after whistle scrums instead of using it to actually play hockey. Constantly initiating and shoving against much taller and at least 40 pounds heavier opponents after the whistle is draining.

I'm ok with him showing some fight when he gets hit or pushed after the whistle, but sometimes he provokes it when it's really unnecessary. He goes way overboard with it or spends too much times going back and forth, when it could just be stopped. He's not hurting anyone but himself in a prolonged scrum.

One of his bread and butter for scoring goals is being quicker than opponents, jumping on rebounds around the net. He's not even a slow skater, it's just that he's gassed out only after a few strides when he gets on the ice so he is no where as quick and effective offensively. He doesn't have an amazing shot, but his release is quick and deceptive enough to beat goalies from time to time. The problem again is that more often than not, he doesn't have anything left in the tank when he makes those shots. Obviously can't have much accuracy and strength in your shot when you're drained.

Its already an albatross contract.
And the contract HASN'T EVEN STARTED YET Lol
 
He’s done. The moment he tried, he injured himself.
 
Guy has a big heart but he no showed offensively in the playoffs. Suzuki is most certainly the next captain, you can't have a guy no show the way Gally did and give him the C.
 
He tries and he's still a good agitator but he always was going to age like unpasteurized milk. That contract already looks ugly.
 
He ends up on his butt on almost every shift. That alone must be draining
