Breakup day updates

With how tight caps are, the rangers offensive and PP struggles, ect, it would be the height of foolishness not to lock up Zuccarello.

I'm glad he wants to stay. He played like it. Got overmatched in the Boston series, but so did Rick Nash.

Zuccarello earned a contract. I hope he signs here BUT we could always let him go play in Russia again with hopes he joins for the playoff run again. Zucc could make more money in Russia and get a decent pro-rated contract from the Rangers at the end of March.

He SHOULD be back because again he's a guy who went out there and earned it every night which you can't say about some of the guys making a bit more money....

If Hank leaves were ****ed. Not an encouraging response.

Trade Nash. Where are all the people saying he's seriously injured now? Hate to say it but I told you so. It looked like he didn't know what to do out there not that he was hurt. Was he probably banged up? Yeah, but everyone's banged up in the playoffs. No excuse for that.

Great. Staals eye will never be 100%. As if the news surrounding this breakup day wasnt bad enough.

Tortorella needs to be gone. If only for the sake of Hank.

He 100% should be back but the Rangers AND Zuccerello have the same option next season as this past season. If the negotiations come down to money and the Rangers don't want to pay the same amount as Metallurg Magnitogorsk they can still bring Zuccerello back.

I think Zuccerello will make more money going back to Russia and coming back at the end of next season to the Rangers. This is his career, his window to make the most money he can possibly make. I wouldn't be surprised if both the Rangers and Zucc go that route instead of resigning him this offseason.

Im kind of nervous right now. With Hank saying "we'll see" and Marc admitting his eye prob won't ever be 100 percent. Jesus.

Clowe and his agent cleary have the same gameplan; don't reveal any injuries it'll cost him millions.

He's already lost a lot of value though. It'll be interesting to see if any team ("cough" Flyers "cough") give into his demands.

With the Staal news it might be better for him to just concentrate on weights and heal.

Honestly, I don't care how much better the eye is getting it is imperative they get some real depth for next year, either a veteran on the cheap who will accept a 7th-8th role or trade for another young DMan who has AHL/NHL options.

That Hank response is kinda scary but the season is still an open wound, lets hope he's just bummed about how things ended.

@NYDNRangers now

Marc Staal says he's confident he will recover well enough that people will stop asking him about his eye altogether

I wonder if the Staal injury changes the Rangers plans this offseason. IF the plan was to move Del Zotto it's a huge risk not knowing what condition Marc Staal will be in come September during camp.

Hank's comment is going to haunt me in my sleep for the next few months. Now we have Bryan Berard 2.0 in Staal, Sauer is never coming back. Only plus is hearing Stepan wants to be a Ranger for life. I gotta hand it to Richards if he truly does start training next week for the upcoming season and I have been bashing him since the season opener.

Definitely is. At the same time watch this team pull a Yankees post Mattingly or Mavericks post Nash and win one a year or two after

Good organizations plan ahead and don't get caught with their pants down. The time was two years ago to draft a goalie and start planning for plan B just in case. Craig Patrick did it with Richter in the 1985, Neil Smith tried to do it with Hirsch and Cloutier until he became Neil The Deal.

I don't think any of the goalies in the organization can ever be starters other then Henrik.

Heck, even the Giants in football drafted another QB just in case and Manning should be able to play another 6-7 years.

Hank cant even sign an extension for 6 months so why would he have been discussing a new contract during this past season?

The Hank response about not knowing what the team 'd look like is actually good news.
if i am reading it correctly, there are decisions to be made on the directions of the team, system adjustment/replacement, which most of us want.

Hank needs a few more Swedish friends to make him feel young

That's the advantage of having all of these kids competing for roster spots though, it'll bring a lot of energy to the team and dressing room.

Hagelin - Lindberg - Fasth line would probably add a couple of years to his career

These guys devote most of each year to trying to win the cup. You're going to get some irritated or sarcastic answers. I suspect it takes a great deal of professionalism to not cuss out the reporters when they ask dumb questions.

This. As a fan listening some of the questions frustrate me...can I only imagine how they feel.

And tough to hear about Staal. Not surprising. But tough. Really seems like Rangers just can't catch a break sometimes. Hope for his sake he can get back into good playing shape, and not have it affect his quality of life too much.

Hank is dealing with the sting of being eliminated. Clearly this was a disappointing season. Give him some time and he'll be ok.

Nash isn't being traded. lol

I wish Sauer is made available to the media so we know one way or the other.

He'll probably release a statement when a decision is finally made. If not through the Rangers then through his agent or his hometown Newspaper.

What's going to happen with him first is he doesn't get tendered an offer, and if he doesn't get invited to a camp, then six months later a statement might get released.

Such a shame. A great hockey player who really only had one season (2010-11) of health.

Exactly. Clearly this team is not a finished product. There was quite a bit of upheaval this season, and now they need to complete the job. Gotta figure Richards is gone, a couple kids will make the roster out of camp, and a supporting piece or two will be brought in as well to round things out. If Hank wants to wait a bit to see how things progress that's his right. But I'm pretty sure he wants to win here.
