Player Discussion: Brayden Point - Part 3

Brayden Point recorded his 600th career point and became the sixth player in franchise history to reach the milestone. Point needed 615 games to accomplish the feat which is third fastest by a Lightning player trailing only teammate Nikita Kucherov (557) and Steven Stamkos (595).

Have to wonder what’s up here. Missing team meetings and getting suspended. The top line overall has been disappointing lately as well. Interestingly, Point is a +5 on the season, well behind both Kuch and Guentzel. Meanwhile the best line on the team has been Kuch with Cirelli and Hagel.

During the Bolts cup runs Pointer was my favorite player to watch with his speed and tenacity. The speed is still there and the skill has only grown. Not so sure on the tenacity.

I know he’s a great player but he needs to be a leader on this team and set an example. I really had him circled as the potential next captain after Heddy. Perhaps Cirelli or Hagel would be better suited.

To be fair, I think he has dialed back the tenacity in the regular season for health reasons. We saw that even in the cup years.

The fact that Point missed the team meeting probably supports my theory that Cooper is losing the locker room.
@Stammertime91 @DistantThunderRep Guys, what do you think? You were laughing at me, but I'm probably right.
If that's the case he's been losing it for years because Point has done this before.

Keep thinking you're right though for your daily dosage of copium.

Part of me thinks he's conserving his energy & body during the regular season by floating/not trying in the defensive zone.
He did that in the regular season of both cup runs too. 100% it's a health thing. When he plays all out, he gets injured far more. We see it in the playoffs almost every year. Including, again, the cup years.

Point could realistically hit 500 goals in his career, especially if he gets to keep playing with Kucherov. Feels like just yesterday when he was a rookie and couldn't score to save his life.

On pace to miss the 90 points mark for the first time in 3 seasons.

2 years ago: 1.15 pts per game
1 year ago: 1.10 pts per game
This season: 1.09

Brayden Point recorded his third straight 40-goal season and tied Steven Stamkos (3 from 2009-10 – 2011-12) for the longest run in Lightning history.
Only four active skaters have posted a longer streak: Auston Matthews (5 from 2019-20 – 2023-24), Alex Ovechkin (5 from 2005-06 – 2009-10), Leon Draisaitl (4 from 2021-22 – 2024-25) and David Pastrnak (4 from 2021-22 – 2024-25).

Hagel and Point make it easier to see Stamkos leave. I'd call on Stamkos at 50% and send sheary and Atkinson with nothing. Take it or.leave it nashvile. The scouts really hit back in the day kucherov, point, and palat all later round picks (not 1st rounders) turned into studs. To get two first ballot hof players on a 2nd round picks kuchefov and point 3rd pick is unreal and amazing. God bless Tampa with his own hands!

He's only freshly turned 29 and 60% of the way there (and at 347 career goals when including the playoffs)...I remember when I was more active on Twitter a long time ago and there was someone who was an ardent Brayden Point believer and was hoping like hell we'd draft him. It wasn't a talent concern, it was always a size concern. An understatement to say we're glad this one turned out like this.

If I'm looking at the stats correctly, Point has the 2nd-most 40+ goal seasons in Lightning history. Stamkos had six, Point now has four.

He's very sneaky as a goal scorer. There's nothing really patented about his scoring except the slot on the powerplay. Apart from that, he's not a pure sniper. He just beats you with some slick pond hockey moves down low, a backhand in tight, or the occasional shot off the rush. When you think of Stamkos, it was always a wrister on the rush or patented one timer. Point hits 40 and makes you think, how? But he does
