I think Luchenko goes to the highest bidder- Barrie, Brampton, Oshawa will all take a shot and given he's a London kid, Knights will likely be in. I'd say it's a heavier package than Barlow was given there is a chance he returns next year. Guelph lost big when Poitras made Boston I would think that would make them even more motivated to move Luch. I think its starts at 08 1st, solid young roster player and a bunch of picks to even get the conversation started.

For shits and giggles
Knights-Hawery, Arrowsmith or Fagan + picks
Barrie- Vaughan, J Newton + picks
Gens- Brady Smith, Gravelle + picks or O Griffen + picks
Brampton- Witkowski, Karmiris (late bday) may get it done
Brantford- O'Donnell, Tsherna + picks

Way too early to say this but if O’Donnell can have a Jake O’Brien rookie type season it’s going to be so tough to move on from him because not only does he have potential to be a superstar in the league but he might also be giving you decent production this year. I know you have to give up something to get something but he will be hard to part with.

I know Babin isn’t playing rate now but he was a high 2nd rounder. Maybe you could package Babin, Rossetto, plus a boat load of picks. Essentially I’m trying to make O’Donnell untouchable which I know will be hard to do if where looking at any high impact player in a trade

I get what you re saying but Luchanko will be just about any teams 1st out the door in every situation. He's that good. Zero chance that Guelph would ever entertain that kind of an offer from Brantford given what other teams would be offering. If I'm Brantford I'm not in on this. He could very well be a rental. Its more likely Brantford is a year maybe 2 away from really making a run as long as Obrien stays in year 2. Id be looking at moving Lardis in the summer unless season doesnt go as well then I'd move him for boatload at deadline and go on a 2 year run. I like the 06/07 group there and by all accounts O'Donell will be a very good 2nd year player next year. IMO the other teams in the East are just too strong and they aren't done.

If Guelph wants an 08, it has to be OD to get this type of deal done. 100% have to give to get in a trade like this.

The 1 thing I wonder is if the Bulldogs promised OD and his family that they wouldn't trade him. I get that he declared for the OHL over the QM for multiple reasons, but it's still a long way to move, and then be moved again.

Who would be interested in Lardis in the summer? It's highly unlikely that he will be back in the OHL next year.

Even if my some miracle he was, the Bulldogs will be good and could certainly use a guy that will score 50-60 goals.

Since conditions will be necessary with Jett, is it possible to add Malholtra and structure the deal to either offset conditional picks and or the need to include a player such as Tsherna?
Storm should be happy with adding 1 if not 2 08 1sts and Bulldogs add Luchanko for possibly 2 years and maybe only lose O Donnell from current roster.
Would this not be win win, albeit complicated.

Interesting about Maholtra. I wonder if he was drafted by Guelph he would have reported. Now with the impending NCAA rule changes it could increase the chances of him reporting. What if instead of O’Donnell you swap in Maholtra. Maholtra hasn’t exactly gotten off to a good start statistically

Could only swap Malholtra if he committed to the Storm January 10th and you are back to adding additional player(s) and picks.
Can't trade Jett for a hope and wishful thinking.

It would be complicated. We have no idea if the new NCAA rules have any sway on his decision. What the Bulldogs paid to get him certainly makes it seem that he has no intention of coming.

It must also be remembered that his dad his literally 25 minutes away coaching in Abbotsford.

I don't know what the Bulldogs are going to do, but they have assets and there are players available. It's fun to talk about. Getting the 2 import Ds really changed what they can do.

I expected you would be all in and win the East assuming they would use their assets and led by Vanacker, Lardis, OBrien and Leenders and much more.
Defense is now much improved even without using any assets.

They are definitely all in. I'm pretty sure they've been aware, for quite some time, of both imports being here.

Next phase of the new building has been approved. 9-1. 1 councilor absent. I believe this is the first vote that wasn't unanimous.

Project will now be sent out for tender, naming rights, etc. I think the article states it'll be 12-18 months. They'll negotiate a lease with the Bulldogs early in the process.

I heard a VERY early rumour that Ferrero is interested in the naming rights. Possibly for Tic Tacs.

I wonder how long before the building is actually ready?

Councillor Carpenter who voted against it consistently will be the one vote against everything, even simple motions to extend a delegate speaking time.

My bet for naming rights is SC Johnson. They have the SC Johnson trail behind the building and have a big presence in the city. I say based on literally just my hunch. That or the Gretzky Estates Arena. This way Wayne gets to make a contribution while supporting his business interest

Any idea what the absent councilor is about? Legit absent or someone that is for the project, knew it would pass, but didn't want their vote on the record?

We have these kind of chickenshit councilors in Hamilton. Don't want their vote on record so they can play both sides when it's convenient.

I believe it was Councilor Hunt who was absent. I like her and she is pretty straightforward and the by the book, i.e does not play politics for the sake of politics. I don't think her absence was to avoid the vote.

Councilor Carpenter has been on council for many terms. I honestly do not have anything against the guy, he is not even in my ward. Sometimes I agree with him and sometimes I dont. It is just an observation I have made made where he knows an issue is going to pass and he will vote no and vice versa when he knows a motion wont pass. In this case he likes the Bulldogs (he is a season ticket holder) but he seems to only support the arena if the Bulldogs pay for it all which is so unrealistic.

The city still can technically pull out at anytime until a shovel is in the ground. They have approved the debt and I believe now will move forward with hiring a firm to design the building. But if the lease negations with the Bulldogs do not go the cities liking they can stop the project before the shovel gets in the ground. So technically its not official. But yes I think this is 99% going to happen

My thought has also been Ferrero - big company in town that has shown interest from the get-go. Their products are available at the rink, they sponsored a game last year etc. Would even give them potential to add a small shop in the rink selling all their kinder/fererro/tictac products…

Can't wait to watch this weekends games.

I'm assuming Jiricek will be in.

Will be interesting to see what the D pairings look like. With language issues they will probably pair the 2 Czechs.

Edit: Lineups are out and Jiricek is in and paired with Hamara.

Let's go!

I'm so excited that I'm already in Brantford because I decided to eat near the rink. So, I'm ready for the Dogs to get blown out. My wife couldn't make it, so I get the aisle seat. Going to be a great night.

Excited to see Schaefer in person. Couldn't make the Erie game last year. Saw that kid play alot when he was a Jr. Bulldog.

Hamara - Jiricek
Protz - Moore
Roberts - Radley/Krmpotic
