I really feel like there is a fit between Brandon Saad and the Leafs.

Saad is rumored to be available and the Leafs need at least 1 and I would argue 2 top 9 forwards, both a winger and a center.

Berube knows him from their days with the Blues he's a guy I expect the Leafs to pursue via trade if he's truly available because of the connection with Berube.

What would it take to get it done?

Have you missed the other Saad to Leafs thread? On second thought, better to let that one go.

With retention, Blues fans would be pleased with a low 2nd. Without retention, realistically lower than that. If you've got a similarly valued prospect instead of a mid round pick, that might be preferable.

I could see small adds on either side to get the return each team wants.

I could see Saad ending up being one of those "deadline guys" who teams start looking at as a "cheaper option" that they think they're going to outsmart other GMs on. And then ending up in a stupid bidding war for a mediocre player, rather than a bidding war for the top options. Especially because of his size.

Don't get our hopes up.

All good, probably for the best.

Why is it EVERY PLAYER that gets mentioned being moved ALWAYS end up with people thinking their the PERFECT FIT with Toronto?

Because our media hypes the hell out of other teams players and then when they get here and people see they are just another player the cycle repeats.

Blues are reportedly looking for picks, however I can imagine a young player/prospect with NHL-future coming back is also an option. If we're looking at a young player, preferably someone who can play 3C or can be an upgrade over Joseph/Kessel/Perunovich at 3RD.

We can retain on Saad and, thanks to Krug being on LTIR, maybe even take on an expiring contract as a capdump if it helps the Leafs out and it maximizes the return.

As Reality Czech mentioned, I guess Saad @50% for a late 2nd is probably fair.

ps. no, not interested in Nick Robertson.

No, stop with the absolutely unneeded trades. They have too many LW and not enough C....they need a C.

Think of your own team's actual needs before making us look like clowns.

Saad is though.

he's about 6'2 and 215 so he has the size the Leafs like to add.

He's got the connection with Berube

And he's a top 9 forward and I would suggest the Leafs need 2 of those, so he fills a need

They do need a 3C, they also need a top 9 winger
