I think a lot of the criticisms this week are completely valid and I agree with a lot of them, but we need to remember the Eagles are really f***ing good, particularly on defense. They are the #1 defense giving up an average of 17.6pts/game on the season and that drops to 15.1pts/game since their bye. Without Harris' fumble, they were right on pace for that. I think the Steelers were still particularly bad because they only had 163 yards of offense, but some of that is on the time of possession. I'd have to take a deeper dive to see how that calculates in terms of yards per play compared to other teams. I'm guessing still not great, but still.
So, yes, I think pitches to Najee shouldn't even be in the playbook, but do I have any faith they would have had success running up the middle? Not really. Patterson being in the game late was dumb, but they weren't getting anything from Harris or Warren. Was not going for it on 4th and 7 the right call? No, but does anyone really think they would have picked it up? They were just over matched.
And not to beat a dead horse, but we all wanted a WR2 anyway, but one piece of that was the fear of what it would like without Pickens. Well, there's your answer.
Honestly, I'm more disappointed in the defense. You knew it was going to be tough sledding on offense. They stopped Saquon which was mission #1, but when you gets teams into 3rd and 20 and you give up the first down as a top 5 defense? I dunno. Just reeks of the 'good on paper' defenses that then give up 40 points in the playoffs that we've seen under Tomlin.
