Brandon Duhaime (2 years/3.7 million)
Connor Dewar (1 year/1.18 million)

Marcus Foligno (4 year/16 million)
Frederick Gaudreau (5 years/10.5 million)

Gaudreau was crap last year, and Foligno didn't play for 37 games. Throw in the AAV and terms of the contract, ages, and it's not even close, to me.

Gaudreau was injured by Reaves. An injured Gaudreau played at the same level as them. I’m hoping for a nice bounce back.

Foligno outproduced each of Dewar and Duhaime while playing 27* less games. Let that sink in. Dewar and Duhaime are fringe NHL players. Foligno is a 3rd line player that we hope has solved his injury problems.

4 years was too many for Foligno and 4M is in line with his "peak" which he's passed.

After the year Freddy had he's basically on par with Boyd as a player, who was added on a 2-way. Was at least a reasonable rationale for this one at the time with a thought process to move on from Foligno and let Hartman walk rather than giving him ~5/30 but neither of those things happened and they ended up both extending.

So yeah, give me the other 2, though not really against the "neither" option as there's guys like Lauko who can be acquired for nothing, Lorentz is on a PTO in Toronto, Boyd on a 2-way, etc.

I reckon we could have Tarasenko, Glass, Lankinen, and a 3rd instead of Foligno, Gaudreau, Fleury, and Novak, even an additional asset if Foligno was traded last year. That's the group I'd prefer.

Foligno is a very valuable piece. Our team is soft as crap and he’s our 2nd best defensive forward. Gaudreau contract stinks but neither Duhaime & Dewar were more than run of the mill 4th liners

Mostly unrelated to the thread but I like bringing in Boyd. At least with Arizona, he was a serviceable NHL player, way better than Lettieri and Lucchini. I don't know how he's going to fit in but I would be okay carrying him on the NHL roster full time, and he's spent time with Schmaltz and Keller so he knows how to play with skilled guys too if necessary.

I went with neither, not because I actually want neither of the groups, but because it's too close for me to choose one, as long as we're assuming everyone is and stays healthy. Foligno is the best player in the poll and he's paired with a guy who was, only as of last year, the worst player among them. They're overpaid, but Dewar and Duhaime are just warm bodies to me, despite all their speed and effort.

I don't know what the Wild would have done with the extra cap space. Would they have been able to retain Gustav Nyquist? If so, I'd rather have the cheaper grinders and Nyquist than the expensive best grinder. If they were going to blow that on garbage though, I'd rather have Foligno.

There’s a better argument for neither than to choose Dewar/Duhaime. If your argument is cap space, I’d rather have all of it than a couple lower tier 4th line players like those two. I don’t miss them and think the team is better without them.
