It feels hard to think team won't regress without his rugged abrasive play but we'll see how it plays out. Hard to imagine a lot of the roster have an axe to grind with him if they named him captain.

Can hate his alignment politically but Brady the player was good for our identity as a high motor team.
I don't know if the players like him or not as captain, but wasn't the rumour that him being captain was negotiated as part of his 7 year extension and that was all decided in the executive office? There's an old thread here to that effect.

These rumours of Brady nixing deals with Minnesota and Vegas have me wondering what kind of haul we could've gotten for him if he was actually open with his destinations.

This guy's a dick.

I don't begrudge him for wanting to go to Florida, he has the chance to play with his brother on a competitive team, and have their kids grow up close to each other. That's pretty appealing even if you couldn't pay me personally to live in Florida (I get it, it's great to visit, and for some, to live in, just not for me).

I don't think it makes sense from his perspective if that's his plan come UFA, to ask to be traded somewhere else for 2 years only to go there as a UFA. So his options are tell us he want's a trade to Fla, or play out his contract and go there as a UFA. I'm glad he didn't pull a Tavares on us and string us along until he hit UFA then leave.

I'm annoyed that he gave a 4 team list only to block teams that were on it, wasting everyone's time. Just be honest about it.

During the Staios presser he basically said, a couple times, "ask Brady". What are the odds that Tkachuk doesn't talk to the media or whines if he does when he plays here?

That's just how immature the guy is. Feels like he wants to be the good guy, doesn't wanna flat-out lie to your face, but at the same time he's just a dishonest dick in the end. I can't blame him for that either, look who raised him. That's some family.

Besides that, yeah I agree I could respect it to a certain degree if he just said he wanted to go play in Florida with his brother. Raise their kids together, etc. Yet he's already claiming Matthew wasn't even a factor, so I can't even give him kudos for that. He's just a dishonest little weasel.

He absolutely was loved lol. Have you not ever seen the amount of Tkachuk jerseys during games?
Im not saying no one liked him and no one bought his Jersey but he never rose to the level of Fisher, Alfie, Redden, Karlsson, Hossa, etc. He was our captain and I feel there was always been something missing with him. Maybe it was due to him not leading this team to success or becoming a standout player among other players in the league.

I think you nailed it. No real success.

The best times are the good times that create a bond, and most of this guys Senators career was during a miserable time of losing under the worst owner in hockey.

I 100% will remember Turris more fondly than Tkachuk.

Tkachuk will be remembered as a unicorn player that probably had more to give Ottawa and ultimately didn't want to be here and never really grew into the captain role like everyone expected him to.
This team hasn’t done shit in the playoffs yet

I won’t remember any of them till they do

Meh, I'm not miffed about Brady potentially shutting down the Minny trade.

I like Eklund more than either Yurov or Stramel, and we still got two other firsts from Florida,.

I wouldn't have held it against him if he didn't re-sign because he wanted to go to Florida. But I hate this trend of players negotiating NMCs (ostensibly because they want to stay with the team they negotiated the deal with), then asking for a trade, then handcuffing their team by demanding a trade to a specific team. It's just asshole behaviour. Especially when the team they're bending over is actually pretty good and well-managed.

perhaps NMC theoretically means:

"I want to be here, might be taking on term or less money, so especially because of the term and less money you don't get to just trade me away at some point without me having a say".

It now appears to mean:

"give me the longest term you can at the top dollar. That's tells me I want to be here .. until I don't, at which point I'll be a little bitch and demand a trade wherever I feel like it. And don't bother randomly asking me if I feel like getting traded"

I don't think it will be. Brady was not loved by this fan base.

He was loved by the fanbase. The reason he's not going to be remember fondly is because he lied and lied and now the fans are finding out about it.

All you have to do is look at the player threads over the last couple years. Any time someone (including me) wanted to bring some perspective to the reality of Brady Tkachuk as a player and as the captain of the Ottawa Senators there were dozens of posters ready to argue in support of Brady Tkachuk.

I was a fan of his back when he initially signed the $8M NMC deal because he was younger and I thought "hey, he can grow as a player". I just soured on him a few years before most other people did.

We should be prepared for the fact that now he's insulated by the Barkov line, his brother and Bennett he might have an incredible playoff run. But that's who he is. A guy who needs substantial insulation to shine.

I think that’s completely false. He was one of the most loved players by fans and management of this team.

The reason people are so triggered and mad is because of exactly that, he was a player that was so loved here that people were hurt that he didnt want to stay.

Otherwise if he wasn’t liked no one would care. Everyone cares about this. Whether they want to admit it or not, whether they are mad or not, this is impacting everyone. These emotions you’re seeing are triggered by the fact that he was the most loved player in this market.

And that’s not even debatable.
