thats not how this works. Pinto can ask for a trade next season if he wanted. Having a contract in place doesn't mean a whole lot these days.

Ottawa has to take a step forward here or Brady won't be the last guy to ask for a deal out
Pinto can ask for a trade and end up on the worst team in the league. We don’t need to make up false doom scenarios, the guy has zero trade protection. It’s not a real threat until he’s two years away from an extension at the very least. He’d have to be massively unhappy to ask for a trade before that.

No one is sticking around for a sinking ship. Sorry dude its not how it works

a rebuilding team ain't going to trade for Pinto it is going to be a team that is doing well and wants a solid 2 way center to bolster their roster. Pinto is 26 at the start of next season. He will be 30 by the time a rebuilding team is ready to contend

I do find it hilarious how the draft is always strong until we pick. In 2021 the draft was strong right until the 10th pick, now people are saying the top 8 is strong but falls off right after.

Good stuff man.

We were already on those lists...

The path for a team like Ottawa is through the draft. Always has been. Out of all the failures of the last decade, not making this the core ethos of this team is IMO the biggest one.

Givin trade protection out like candy has and will continue to contribute to the inequalities of this league, to the detriment of more than just the Senators. While I can appreciate swinging the needle towards player autonomy in general, I believe the health of the league is more important. When it comes to trade protections and teams, you're either a have, a have not, or a never have.
It has affected calgary and winnipeg a few times already,I just hope that sanderson doesn't choose the same route because it will force the smal market teams to avoid usa hockey players if there is an equivalent or close with a player without an American birth certificate, not saying canadian and other nationalities haven't and won't do the same but it has begun to standout amongst American born.as much as I can understand the players wanting nmc but when they are the one asking for the trade and then demand their landing spot that a hard pil to swallow, heck guaranteed contracts is a great perc as is especially when they go into ep40 mode etc after receiving the bag,but nmc is killing canadian teams full stop.no I'm not a Senators fan I'm a jets fan but I'm also for every canadian team having top quality players for my fellow country men to enjoy, well maybe not team sweden on the west coast lol.

Don’t think Batherson is going anywhere.

And quite honestly the Sens have 2-3 years to figure out the Pinto situation ie build a contender to ensure he stays. They have a ton of assets now and Staios can build the team as he envisions it, so we’ll see what he can do.
I thought he'd stay too, not anymore.

And no, we don't have 2-3 years to figure things out, the writing is already on the wall. Only the most naive fans will still hold out hope for one miracle after another to fall our way in the next couple years to avoid the inevitable, because that's exactly what it will take. We have nothing tangible in the pipeline of any real talent with any projectable potential to actually count. It's all based on rainbows and magic dust now if you actually think we can avoid another repeat of the last decade.

replacing 70 points by committe doesnt work. Its like the other poster saying we can get Foegele and Zetterlund 40 points each. Ya except Brady does that in 18 mins of ice time. How are you spliting that up with Foegele and Zetterlund so they can still get 40 points each in that amount of ice.

You are going to put them both on the PP ? You need skill to compete. There is no option to replace it by committee with a team that already lacks high end talent upfront
On the bright side there are no PO points to replace at least (zero) (none)

The team is fine. They’re not gonna be some bottom feeder cause Tkachuk is gone.

They’re not a contender but they weren’t one yesterday either. So Staios has to figure that piece out… whether he does or not, who knows. Just think the reactions of “now everyone is going to leave!” Are over the top. I don’t think that’s the case. Now obviously if there’s no progression it becomes a risk, but at some point you gotta let it play out. The team has had time to prepare for this so we’ll see what they do now.

What are you talking about? Either staois improves the team or he doesn't. Its pretty much that simple. If he doesn't and we don't make the playoffs where everyone in our division is looking to improve and build off of what they had then yes there will be players who aren't down to stick around.

It is really that simple. That doesn't even include the loss in revenue that Ottawa is going to have if fans stop showing up to watch a poor team

I'm not basing my opinion on the team as it currently stands today. It's based on where it's very likely heading in the next year and beyond.

I don’t know where this “top 8” thing is coming from. I have never seen that specific number as a consensus cut off.

How would Sens nation feel about double dipping with the Ruck twins, now that you have 2 late 1st rounders? Bleacher report just updated their mock with them going to Ottawa at picks 25 & 32.

It would be fun but it seems like the Sens are going to trade some of the picks they acquired so unless they move #9 and keep #25 it feels like a long shot.

I’d be shocked. The Sens don’t tend to take players like the Rucks. Suddenly they’re taking two of them? Doubt it.
