"Guessing" eh. ... tweets came out four minutes before your post outlining exactly this. Weak effort, mate.
Lol, I was guessing and I was actually incorrect in my guess. The Sens didnt get one of the picks in the 40s, they got a 2nd in 2030. Weak effort, mate. Sorry I was 4 minutes behind twitter.

There is a huge difference in the character level of Sanderson vs Brady.

Sanderson will treat the C as a privilege and live up to it. Brady thought it was his by right.

Sanderson is gonna use the C to push himself to be even better.
I hope you're right.. but none of us know Sanderson personally.

His comments and demeanor after the booing of the US anthem and the Olympics fiasco was not promising.

Rantanen got two (expected late) 1sts, two 3rds, and Stankoven. That was well before Stankoven's stock rose in the playoffs. Rantanen basically had a NMC by proxy because teams were only go to pay for him with an extension.

Hughes got Buium, Rossi, and Ohgren. Hughes had less trade protection.

Based on Puckpedia's chart, we basically got a 2nd overall pick in value. I think when you look at those packages and rank all three players, we did reasonably well.

I think trading for Mathew Tkachuk might be easier than getting Robertson to sign here.
They’ll trade for McTavish, and pay Marchment 7M per year we’ll still miss the playoffs and be stuck will couple bad contracts long-term - Stutzle and Sanderson will have had enough ( if not already) they’ll be next with wanting out usually how it works with our franchise.

I really hope they can land a game changer like Robertson somehow and not settle for the above types.

Keep the draft picks if so at least we’d have tons of cap space for future moves.

Question: Would people on this board generally prefer the Hughes return over what we got?

Bruh stop it. Let's not put Sanderson on a pedestal. Yes he's infinitely better than Brady because he literally never takes a shift off but he also went to the White House. I'm not counting on any USA player defending Canada and showing any political literacy.

If there has to be a C, let it be a safe choice like Giroux or Chabot, and let the rest of the roster step up and have to earn it as opposed to it being a bargaining chip for a contract extension like it was for Tkachuk.

IMHO Brady was checked out a while ago, no hard feelings, but time for a change. As configured the team was not jelling like we thought it would.

I wonder if Batherson wants to sign long-term now? And if so he’s in a very good position of strength where Ottawa will likely be desperate!

We did.

Rantanen and Hughes are better players than Tkachuk.

I think he meant total bomb as in total bombshell. Not in that it was a great return.

I think it was a fair return considering the NMC and leverage Brady had. I think bringing him back would have been a huge distraction that could have torpedoed the season. I don't think it's surprising that it's now coming out that his teammates didn't want him back. The "great leader" narrative was bogus the last two seasons. When the coaching staff has to plead with the captain to change the way he plays so the team can try and win... that's not great leadership. He had checked out. Everyone could see it.

But I agree that Staios has A LOT of work to do in the next 3 weeks.

I'm glad it's over. The first 6 years were fun. But we were never winning with him. He was never staying here. It had to happen. Glad Staios just ripped the bandaid off.
People didn't really make a big deal about it at the time, but when the Senators got Tkachuk signed for 7 years back in 2021 Elliotte Friedman reported that he and his family actually asked the Senators to not draft him in 2018. But they did it anyway.

We probably had this guy longer than most would have expected. The relationship was always on borrowed time.

Ottawa remains in a great position with Batherson being the only team who can offer him 8 years.

This is not the end here. There will be moves made before the draft to improve the team. Once the dust settles decisions will be made.

Whatever - he can get gone too as far as I'm concerned.

Why is anyone worried about retaining players that don't want to be here? That don't want to be in Canada?

f*** anyone that has that attitude. Playing for this team should mean something. It should be a point of pride. If it's not, get the f*** out.
