Jake Sanderson is guaranteed the next captain of this franchise by the way. 100% guaranteed.

He will lead this team on and off the ice and he will be a great leader.

It won’t be Stutzle and it won’t be Chabot.
I tend to agree. Timmy is a bit too emotional to be captain imo. We need a guy who's stoic to be the leader.

Hockey media people have no clue.

Torts was right. They don't deserve your time.

Don't blame the media. It is what it is. Some guys don't want to be where they are. They quit on their teammates. They pout until they get their way.

Brady did it. It worked out for him. He's ended up exactly where he wanted to be.

We'll see how it works out for the Senators.

But there's nothing the media could have done to make him stay. Or the fans. He didn't want to be in Canada. Let alone a small city in Canada. His family wanted no part of it. His kids were never going to set foot in a school here. It wasn't going to happen. To get him to stay, you would have had to have convinced him to live apart from his kids for the next 10 years. No chance.

You cannot grovel at anyones feet. No amount of Gord Wilson questions or Brady chants would have changed this outcome. Move on.

Sens could do a 1 year offer sheet at about 12 million. Two 1sts, one 2nd, one third.

Robertson would not have trade protection.

If Dallas matches, they cannot trade him for a year, effectively allowing him to walk for nothing.

Robertson signs it because it gets him 12 million dollars and allows him to walk to free agency. Ottawa does it because if Robertson won't sign an extension, they can flip him like Carolina did with Rantanen.

Dang that’s pretty well thought out. I love it

What do you think melnyk would have done with the reporters harping on their political bullshit with his captain?

Or leaking stories about Linus f***ing everyone’s wife or whatever the f***.

He would have done the right thing

Under Staios our juggernaut team of the mid 2000s wouldn’t have survived with all the shit they got into off the ice. Probably disbanded in 02. Claire Hanna asking them about this and that. Elliott Friedman doing an expose on cbc.
No shot we're now spinning Tkachuk getting traded into Melnyk good lol

I remember a rumour a while back that Brady and Giroux didn't get along (the last season where we missed playoffs). Would love for folks in the know to circle back on that.

They’ll have lots of fun over next few years most likely!

Players wanna win and they just got a lot worse.

Brady didn’t put us in this situation it was media and previous GM who hands out full no movement clauses like candy.

They gotta stop handing them out for health of this franchise.
Yes, but if an NMC/NTC is not included, the player might only sign for RFA years. There are consequences. The rules are there for a reason (CBA).

After the Olympics the Hughes brothers were on Wingmen, and Brady said something like “you guys being here is the highlight of my week” and then Matthew responded saying it was the highlight of his year. Brady’s response to that was a sarcastic “oh actually I have a big game tomorrow, that’s the highlight of my week”.

Staios acted like he was unphased by the podcast, as he should, but no org is ok with that shit. It was flat out ridiculous that he was mocking a big game with his team in a playoff hunt. I can’t imagine that kind of stuff went over well.

What player you going to sign that's first line material? After Tuch there's nobody.
Tuch it is then I guess.

Honestly, I don't expect to replace Brady in UFA for $8M. But we can get close enough that the haul of picks makes this a no brainer.

It's excellent asset management to net all those picks for a modest downgrade on a player like Brady (moreso if he wasn't going to re-up anyways).

It puts us in a position where Robertson either has us over a barrel allowing him to demand a massive overpay; we let him walk for nothing losing the picks, or we trade him for Pennies on the dollar at the deadline (I have ZERO faith the sens could get the quality of deal Carolina got for Rantanen).

I won’t necessarily blame him. Shit looks bleak for this franchise.

The f*** are we going to do? Our division just keeps getting stronger and we’ll be lucky to take a lateral move in the standings next year. Nobody is going to waive to come here. We have the worst scouting department in the league so not even a rebuild seems enticing.

Sanderson might be the only good thing about this franchise.
Damn, just change Sanderson to Seider and that's how I feel about the Wings.

I am not so sure that it will be Tuch as a UFA signing.

I am also not in agreement about the "excellent. asset management" part but it seems that Staios had little choice and few options.

To clarify, I wasn't blaming the media for Brady leaving, I was pointing out what a stupid thing it was to say that the trade is "a total bomb".

I read that as him saying it was a bad return but reading it again I think he may have just been saying it's a massive shock.

This tweet by Garrioch is more of what I mean:

Yeah no **** the team isn't better as a result of trading the captain for draft picks. What incredible analysis Brucie. That's why the Sun pays you the big bucks.

I'm happy is gone, no more distraction and the team can focus on winning hockey games instead of focusing on what your captain said in his podcast.
