Brady requests a trade and despite providing a 4 team list (really a 3-team list since Vegas has nothing to trade), rumour has it he basically decides Florida is where he wants to go, making it a 1-team list.

How Staios was able to get a top 10 pick, two additional 1sts and a 2nd for Brady with that kind of leverage is beyond me.

That context means a lot

Notes:

- minimally thanked Tkachuk and Emma for their time here
- confirmed Brady asked out
- stated this was not his preference and wanted to make it work
- deferred questions about why back to Brady
- dodged Sylvain St Laurent's question about star players wanting out in the past
- when asked if Staios was surprised about Brady asking out, he spoke about seeing that Brady was a different player last year than the year before, and not overly surprised. Wishes they could have found a way to move forward but ultimately it was time to move on
- Did not think Brady's situation affected the group this year
- Says trade was clearly pointed towards one team at the end. Comfortable with the return given the circumstances. Confirms he was not available to every team in the league
- would have liked an impact player in return, but there's a number of different ways to get there in the end (i.e. having draft capital to trade)
- On the subject of both Tkachuks asking for trades and this becoming an era of player empowerment: Clearly it's going on in the league. Players are asking for trade clauses. Not concerned for Ottawa. Says the group is committed.
- on Interest in #9 and #25: He got a phone call/text message right when the question was asked. Interest is robust. No intention of this team taking a step back

Brady requested a trade. That's new info. Up until the presser we thought he just notified Staios that he wouldn't extend.

I am hearing that the Panthers are a little worried of what chaos these two brothers may bring in. Many players are quietly concerned about the favoritism and non accountability this may show to the other guys. This may implode that team at some point. You heard it here first.

I'll update this post as the PC goes on:
- Staois starts the presser by thanking Brady & Emma Tkachuk
- Bruce asks him what changed since Steve called the idea of trading Tkachuk "nonesense"; Steve says, "a trade request".
- Staois says he has no intention of taking a step back this coming year
- Slight paraphrase: "if you're alluding to the fact that people don't want to play in Ottawa, I don't think that's a case. This was a unique situation. If you look at where he was transacted to, there's a connection."
- "Not overly surprised" "Brady was a bit of a different player throughout this past year" "Wish we could have found a way forward, but we move on"
- Doesn't feel that this situation had a negative impact on the room or how the team played this season; sees "an elevation in leadership for individuals who are already in the room... full confidence" in those guys
- Staois says that due to the NTC "it was clearly pointed towards one team in the end"
- "Would you like to get an impact player back in a deal like this? There are different ways you can get there in the end, and this draft capital may be able to help us get there in the end"
- re: the "player empowerment phenomena": "players negotiate NTCs into contracts, and as a manager you have to honour that... I'm not concerned about that for us in Ottawa... we have a very committed group."
- Bruce: "how much interest do you have in 9 and 25 right now?", as Steve is about to answer the question, his phone rings. He follows: "I have no intention of this team taking a step back. We're active, and we're open".
- "9 is in play, for sure." "If you see the transaction, see the picks taking back, you may wonder what direction the team is going in. I want to be clear, I don't intend on this team taking any steps back."
-
Why thank Emma? she had zero points the whole time she was here.

cause Brady gave him 2 years on a contract to trade him. Good on both sides for getting it done quietly and not leading each other on

Now Staois has a lot to prove
