without adding anything at forward, we should move Stützle back to wing, Pinto to 2nd line center, and Greig back to 3rd line center. Pinto is more of a legit top 6 than Greig, and could get 50+ points in that role.

If we get NHL average save percentage this season, it would reduce our goals against by 20 or more from last year, netting out the loss of Brady’s offence. If Ullmark can play like he did in the playoffs, we are probably 30 goals better.

Our prospect cupboard was empty before the trade. Keeping the 9th gives us the chance to have some future talent on the way, and possibly a quality producer at an entry level salary soon. If the team does well enough, the 1st in 2029 and 2nd in 2030 from Florida gives you the chance to do something significant at the deadline - hopefully a hockey trade for somebody good with term.

The trade was a short term set back, but the recovery opportunities may prove more valuable.

I'm not 100% sure I'm interpreting this correctly, but Friedman seems to indicate in the 32 thoughts pod today that once it came down to decision time that Brady ultimately forced his way to Florida (rather than any other team).

I would 100% believe this is what happened.

Brady: Hey Steve, my list is Florida, Vegas, Minnesota and Carolina.
Staios: Hey Brady, we've agreed to a deal with Minnesota. Give us the sign off and we'll do the trade call.
Brady: Thanks Steve. But let's keep talking with Florida.

It's strange there's still no "thank you" post from the Senators on social media. Are they waiting for Staios to speak first? Seems odd to me, unless there's another shoe to drop.

Which one of Stützle, Cozens, and Batherson stopped being top 6 players?
If we're counting top-6 players, there's also Shane Pinto. We have him penciled in as a 3C, but that's a luxury. A 20-goal, 40-50-point C who's borderline elite defensively is one of the 6 best forwards on almost every team in the league.

Reality is that even without Tkachuk the team has Stutzle, Batherson, Cozens, and Pinto as legit top-6 caliber forwards, and tons of cap space + now a pile of picks to find a couple of more.

They also have a very deep bottom-6: Zetterlund, Foegele, Amadio, Greig, Halliday (and probably Giroux?) is enviable depth.

Staios still has to add a couple of forwards, but the sky isn't falling.

Probably just letting the temperature cool a bit based on the reactions lol

It’s not strange. It’s no big deal. Who cares. Non story

The other shoe to drop will be MacDermid being kept around and suiting up for every game against Florida next season.

Can you imagine Donnie boy picking Viggo Bjorck

With the 9th pick of the 2026 NHL draft the Ottawa Senators proudly select from the London Knights Maksim Sokolovskii
Funny (odd, not ha-ha), but drafting is BY FAR far my biggest concern in this situation. I have not been a Brady fan, so I am not upset at all by his departure. I was on the side of saying this was inevitable, so very glad they pulled the trigger now and that Steve got as much as did given the NMC. I just don't want to see the Sens squander these picks. Three 1st round picks and the freed-up cap space the Sens now have not taking back any salary means there should be tons of room to manoevre, but only if scouting doesn't piss it all away!

Did you see the appreciation thread here in this forum?

Imagine that, but off of SM being absolute trolls. It would get mocked and ridiculed.

Similar to that thread; probably best to let the dust settle. They'll thank him. Probably at like 10pm tonight. 🤣

This is still a playoff team with an elite goaltender, a solid defense, and some talented forwards. With the off-season just starting, I’m sure Staois will make improvements to the roster. How many superstars does Carolina have again? It’s not about the players you have, but how you play the game—it’s all about system and structure. Look Colorado: they have all the talent in the world, but did they win the Stanley Cup? A good system will always beat a purely skilled team.
Where is your evidence of that?

Feeling even better about this move today than I was yesterday, especially with everything else that has come to light since, and I'm sure I'll continue to feel the same as more details are revealed.

Especially glad that we did this before Florida made another move, and before another Team USA player asks to be traded. Pieces coming back aside, it's a tidy bit of work to have done this largely under the radar, especially when comparing it to where Detroit is right now with Larkin.

Mostly, I'm just happy to be coming into this season without the distraction and headache that came with Brady being on this team. I've been pretty vocal lately about how much I dislike this team constantly finding itself in the spotlight for all the wrong reasons. Like it or not, he was a big contributor to that. This team is always more important than the players we pay to play here, and I'm glad to be rid of a player that clearly was not interested in being here any longer.

Time will tell if the NHL wants to reckon with the clear and present danger that is the Team USA's group chat and influence of their management team. It should come as no surprise that Minnesota was also on Brady's list. I expect Florida and Minnesota to be on the list of any other Team USA player that asks out. I am more inclined to believe that there has been tampering on the part of this group: Look no further than JT Miller being upset the Tkachuks mentioned the group chat on their podcast. No one wants their scheming to come to light.
