Oh Brady was never the best player

He’s badly overrated IMO

He’ll look good with Florida cause man just look at their top 9 its ridiculous, thats a Kevin Durant bitch move.

But as far as skills, Brady is limited, he’s not a great skater, his 1 on 1 skills are pretty ass, he’s big and very good around the net. He cant carry a line
Hard to say. He was probably the most noticeable player for a couple of years before whatever happened to him, but whatever the case, he was no longer one of the big guns imo

You don't know any more than any of us, so check that condescending shit at the door.

He very well could have wanted to stay in Ottawa until he got annoyed. He showed a lot of emotion about wanting to win with the team in the past.
I refuse to check anything right now.

I am feeling entirely vindicated today. I am elated. I am beyond happy to be rid of him.

And I'm not the one sitting here trying to cope and blame anyone but the player himself.

The league is moving away from Brady's skillset. It's a speed and skill game now. He showed he couldn't keep up anymore against a team like Carolina.

At the end of the day, this team’s identity has been “we have Brady Tkachuk” and he’s going to a team that actually plays like him. He’s going to do great there, and yes we will be bitter but that’s life.

You saw it in the Carolina series, he started playing like himself when he saw other players getting physical. He doesn’t need to worry about getting engaged in that type of battle in Florida. It’s going to be catered to him every night.

i would venture that a lot of americans are fine. But they're tied to the fat bastard president and his ultra conservative views in my eyes.

It is what it is
Most fans don’t give two craps about that

Brady did what he did and despite ridiculous media attention dragging his name thru the mud, the fans still chanted his name proudly and loudly!

Gotta disagree here. A KD bitch move would be him going on Carolina after getting swept by them.

It's still pretty weak of him to want to play on a stacked team as a passenger instead of being viewed as the bus driver here in Ottawa, but I wouldn't call him KD level weak just yet.

I wonder what the Canes would've offered tho. Would be hilarious to see Brady try to be defensively responsible under Rod.

Tuch it is then I guess.

Honestly, I don't expect to replace Brady in UFA for $8M. But we can get close enough that the haul of picks makes this a no brainer.

It's excellent asset management to net all those picks for a modest downgrade on a player like Brady (moreso if he wasn't going to re-up anyways).
The Oilers are also in on Tuch since his wife is from there, if they unload Nurse

I literally cannot believe this. Mostly because I was not expecting it to happy so quickly.

Few thoughts:

- The return is alright. The 9th OA pick is obviously very valuable. For the situation we were in, not in control, I think Staios did well. A little frustrated we couldn’t get the 2029 without protection because I thought that was a big part of the return with Florida possibly nosediving during those years.

- Great job by the team not letting this get out until the trade happened. Yes there were rumours but it wasn’t expected right now. This definitely simplified the process for the team.

- I’m anxious to see what Staios does next. We need 2 top 6 forwards and maybe a defensemen. The market is difficult and there aren’t that many high end guys available.

- I can’t imagine how the rest of the players feel.
If the top 10 protection applies in 2029, what do we get instead? Florida's first round pick unprotected in 2030?

Sure. He wasn't very good for long periods the last 2 years, but yeah, we all chanted his name when he did something because we want to win

Uh, it's been reported one of the teams he would go to were the Canes.

He's definitely weak for that, but because he ended up in Florida is say it's slightly less weaker lol. At least Florida never swept us in the playoffs (although he was always useless against them).

I roughly agree. The league is moving towards coaching players into being physical, battling on the boards, protecting and cycling the puck.

Brady Tkachuk is a "traditional" power forward in a world where the modern power forward has significantly changed.

The Carolina Hurricanes are the example this year because they won but you look at the Ottawa Senators this year and the league over the last 20 years and the trend is clear. Less creativity. More dumping the puck in, cycling the puck, finishing your checks, boxing out your own net, etc...

Hockey is transitioning into a relatively mature style of play that's incredibly risk averse. Soccer has been there for decades now. The NFL has spent a couple decades adding rules to help offenses score points and to allow them to "take risks" for the sake of increasing entertainment because at the end of the day that's what it is about... you want your sport to grow and be popular and to do that you generally want it to be exciting.

We can sign Spence for our 2RD and still have in the range of $15M left after also signing Giroux, Cousins, and Merillainen. $15M can pay some excellent players!!!

Im expecting something like that, and we wont be a better team

Ive been a fan of this team since 2003 man, what a roller coaster of mediocrity
Sooner than later we will be better. The old Brady may never return anyway. He loses vision on the ice.

Quite pleased with that return all things considered, 8 million in cap, some assets to replenish the pool and pickup a 50/60 point guy.

Think Mctavish would be a solid, and likely add. 25th+, would likely be a 25g guy with the Sens in a top 6 role. Grab a top end guy with 9, some skill at the draft, hope we can find a MacArthur in free agency.

Another couple of million to add around.
