Dead even to me.

Marner is slightly better offensively, way better defensively, and twice as dynamic.

Brady is tougher, grittier and on the more palatable contract and will have guys running through brick walls for him.

With him being the first person at that wall.

If I was starting a brand new team from scratch Marner, if you asked who’d I want on the Sens right now, Tkachuk.

If my intentions are wining the cup give me Tkachuk.
You know, you can't know.

ALL Tkachuks, have never been good in the playoffs.

I remember a lot of people saying they’d take a flyer on unproven Tkachuk rather than disappointing Marner in the playoffs, I don’t remember anyone saying « Brady is a proven playoff performer ».
33 in 39 is disappointing??

If Ottawa traded Tkachuk for Marner, I would be extremely angry. I'd imagine Leaf fans would also be angry.

On defense? Hes probably the worst / 2nd worst defensive forward in the league (him and stutzle)

lol another example of misinformation fed by delusions, which has been a little bit too trendy in society unfortunately

Maybe you were thinking about Suzuki and Caufield?

Among 313 forwards who played at least 200 minutes at ES :

Tim Stutzle :

CA/60 : 54.12 (98th)
SA/60 : 29.51 (122th)
GA/60 : 4.08 (281th)
xGA/60 : 3.07 (197th)
SCA/60 : 26.08 (69th)
HDCA/60 : 12.06 (172th)

Brady Tkachuk :

CA/60 : 56.39 (146th)
SA/60 : 31.57 (184th)
GA/60 : 4.74 (303th)
xGA/60 : 3.3 (239th)
SCA/60 : 28.28 (131th)
HDCA/60 : 13.14 (234th)

Nick Suzuki :

CA/60 : 53.83 (91th)
SA/60 : 29.62 (129th)
GA/60 : 4.75 (304th)
xGA/60 : 4.04 (305th)
SCA/60 : 31.74 (242th)
HDCA/60 : 12.6 (208th)

Cole Caufield :

CA/60 : 56.35 (143th)
SA/60 : 31 (171th)
GA/60 : 5.11 (310th)
xGA/60 : 4.25 (310th)
SCA/60 : 32.93 (264th)
HDCA/60 : 13.03 (230th)

Sens players GA/60 FAR exceed their xGA/60 because DJ Smith defensive hockey systems make Dominique Ducharme look like a perennial Jack Adams coach. In Habs case, the defense is terrible but goalies have been standing on their heads so their GA/60 exceed their xGA/60 a bit less

Stop with your fake news

He had a better playoff last year but overall it definitely is.

Leafs are the first team in the NHL, MLB or NBA to lose a winner take all game 5 years in a row.

Their offensive catalyst, who is elite in the regular season, disappearing in deciding games is a major factor. How can it be anything else than disappointing?

He’s still a great player, but definitely disappointing in the playoffs.

Two completely different players. Marner is by far the better 200 foot more skilled guy who will always score more points but Brady is the more physical player for sure.

Always???? (don't forget Brady is also 3 years younger)

Two high end players that play a completely different style of hockey. It’s easier to recognize the talent of Marner and while I’d give the edge to Marner, it’s hard to ignore the contributions of Tkachuk.

Comes down to the playoffs for me so Ill go Brady. When the league forgets its own rules guys like Tkachuk generally thrive more than guys like Marner. If the league had any consistancy Id go with the much more dynamic and skilled guy in Marner

To be fair they aren’t the same player.
No, but the point is just because someone plays a more physical game doesn't mean they will be more successful in the playoffs. Brady has no playoff record, so you can't assume anything. He could be Briere or he could be Seguin

Too many people take the default position that physical player = automatic clutch playoff performer.

Josh Anderson is a perfect example of a guy with a similar style who absolutely flops when the post season starts.

I’d agree that there’s no formula for a successful playoff performer. Then again I didn’t compare him to his brother. Brady is a player that has continually showed he performs when he raise his emotion level, I’m not sure you can say the same for Matthew. He has rarely looked good against the oilers for example. Playoffs or not.

Lol @Menzinger using Josh Anderson as a comparable.

Lmao when Sens fans were telling us "Brady is a proven playoff performer" great player though, pretty close but I take Marner. Better offensively and has the ability to play in all situations. Brady looks really good though, he may be the best power forward for the next decade or so.

We may never know.

But we already know Marner is a playoff choker.

So, Brady has a pretty low bar to meet there.

And yet he still has more points in the playoffs than Tkachuk.

Brady may never make the playoffs during the term of his contract.

Can't even get his team out of the gutter. Some captain... At least he hasn't let his wife run someone out of town yet. That's a positive.
