Most teams would want to trade futures for him, so the sens would effectively be rebuilding.

So young players that aren't quite established, prospects.

Best case Ontario you find a team that wants to upgrade so you get a lesser player and some assets to make up the difference.

Avs fans would probably consider a re-signed Rantanen for Brady or if Ottawa wants a future heavy deal Ritchie+2026 first+Middle 6 forward (Lehkonen, Colton, Kovalenko).

Mikko Rantanen in the offseason has about 1% of the value a number of people on here seem to think he does.

stars shouldnt be breaking up the only working line they have in dealing marchment- and theres no guarantee Marchment works in Ottawa and maintains his current value at TDL, which is the only reason they would be interested. Bourque has yet to prove he is an NHL player.

If the Stars are including a younger player, they aren’t getting away with not including one of Stankoven or Johnston.

The easy answer is just Robertson assuming Ottawa is prepared to give him whatever Dallas isn’t. On paper, its a lot like the other Tkachuk deal in that they can theoretically get out of a sticky situation not much worse for wear (theoretically, see: Huberdeau).
Johnston would certainly be involved. Staios has liked him since before he was drafted but couldn't convince Oilers that he is better than Bourgault.

What's the goal here?
If Tkachuck is avaliable, does this mean that Ottawa is going scorch earth?

If so, is Stützle also avaliable?

Is Ottawa doing a new rebuild, or do they want to do a "re-tool"
I don't know how Ottawa comes out even by trading Tkachuk, let alone coming out ahead.

Trading Brady Tkachuk would be a real kick in the nuts for the Ottawa Senators, and I don't know why they would do that unless they had absolutely no other option -- like if he followed his brother's example or something.

Maybe he likes being the captain? He's a big fish in a small pond, and pretty much has the keys to the city :)

Brady for Elias Pettersson 1 for 1 is actually something I would consider, and would probably beat any offer from other teams. Pettersson is better suited on a non canadian market, and Brady is some one that would help any contender. A unicorn for an equally young PPP 1C that plays a strong 2 way game.

ottawa the capital of the united states.

Maybe you misread what he said but it would essentially be a sign and trade of rantanen for tkachuk

You’d get 8 years of rantanen, so his value would be through the roof imo.

I think Ottawa would be adding to this if it were the case.

because brady isn't a line driver and so getting multiple pieces that plug holes could very easily make the team better. not to mention we get to keep those pieces longer than Brady who either asks for a trade with nmc or leaves as an FA.

and one of the other reasons is brady is not suited to being captain, and him being a big fish in a small pond with the keys to the city isn't because he's that level of a player or done something to deserve it but entirely because of his last name and hype.

Yes, and I am telling you that this isn't a real thing that happens with pending UFAs in the offseason.

With RFAs, yes.
With UFAs, no.

It takes 10 seconds of thought to realize how stupid the concept of trading massive assets for a player you can get for free in a week is.

Hmmm . . .

I wonder if we're both thinking about the same guy?

This isn't the Brady Tkachuk I see when I watch the Ottawa Senators play . . .

and I'm a Leafs' fan, BTW.

yea its because i have watched him 100s of times more than you.

but people having your perception of brady is exactly why ottawa could come out better by trading him.

Dunno, but you gotta include a Baby Ruth in your negotiations.

So, everyone but you thinks he's good?

The overwhelming majority of Ottawa Senators' fans and NHL fans are wrong, and you're right on your assessment of Brady Tkachuk?

Okay, I get it now :)

didn't say he's bad.

just not a franchise player like many seem to think because of his last name and because of his playstyle.

NHL GM's and fans will overpay for Brady, same way they overpay for Clarkson and Anderson except Brady is actually good.

Boston will always be rumored to be interested in Brady with his ties to Boston and his style of play but I can't imagine the Bruins have enough trade captial to get it done without giving up one of McAvoy/Pasta/Swayman, which wouldn't be smart of them to do.

Ottawa is a team that should be doing much better than they are and I don't think Tkachuk is the problem nor trading him to be the solution. Some bad luck with injuries hasn't helped matters. I get the frustration but if they can find a marquee coach that can teach the team to play with more structure, then hanging on to a 1 of 1 player like BT and building around him will pay off sooner rather than later.

I'm telling you that this concept fans cling to of convincing themselves that trading pending UFAs "resigned" in the offseason isn't real.

Sign and trades happen semi-frequently, whether they are expressed as such or not is somewhat irrelevant. Karlsson and Stone immediately come to mind as examples.

This thread states before the July 1st and does not specifically mention the off-season.
