More franchises are deep sixed by ambitious GMs trying to outsmart the league than patient GMs waiting for value to fall to them.

If you're on a 3 year schedule ('ll contend that Briere has been focused on 2027-28 since he took the job and didn't expect Michkov to arrive until 2026), the last thing you should do is force the issue.

I'm not sure there are a lot of good moves out there. They finally can field 18 NHL caliber players and have some in LHV who have shown they can step in. With (3) 1st and (3) 2nds this summer, you're not looking for volume, you're looking for quality upgrades. You rarely see a quality player under 25 move in trades, and Flyers shouldn't look at older players for a few years.

“It could be worse” will always be both true and irrelevant. Well, unless mediocrity is the goal.

Briere has done exactly one thing I found impressive at the time. And then I found out they needed an extra meeting with Michkov to understand he was trying to force his way here for some strange reason. So I’m at 0.5. I’m not trying to convince you. I’m telling you what my standards are. They’re harsh and not judged on a sliding scale for leaguewide incompetence. That’s the biggest loser behavior of all.

Why rush kids? The AHL is a good place for them to develop, and contrary to popular belief, players like York, Andrae, Grans, Zamula seemed to have emerged unharmed.

Tuomaala is a good example, he's shown he can score, he's improving 5x5, but he's still goes MIA. I'm looking forward to seeing him twice this week to see how far he's progressed. But he's not going to play ahead of Michkov, TK or Brink. So he's better off in LHV for now.
12 minutes in the NHL for a few games can't hurt. If he shows promise he gets a longer look like it seems even Torts says Richard earned. Kick the dead weight to the curb and give Richard the spot. Then kick another and use the "revolving door" of prospects you promised us would happen last season.

And I have no doubt you'll contend that until 2027-28, when either DB will have been fired and all the mistakes we've been pointing to will suddenly become obvious to you, or he'll still be here and you'll tell us he's been focused on 2031-32 all along. We've seen this movie before, no matter how many times we change the character names.

Wanting a fully rebuilding team to trade more than 1 player isn't "ambitious GMs trying to outsmart the league", it's the bare f***ing minimum.

"Yeah well sometimes other teams are worse" as a defence of this team is the biggest loser mentality I can imagine.

Who are you going to trade for what?

It's one thing to move a 30+ year old veteran in his last season for draft picks. If they're leaving anyway, might as well get something.

Flyers have three groups of players

1) veterans on big contracts who'd be hard to move for equivalent value, Couts, Sanheim, TK, and are the veteran core a few years down the road.

2) marginal veterans who won't bring much back if anything, Hathaway, Seeler, Johnson, DeLo.

3) young players close to their prime (23-25 years old), who have value. Do you trade them for late 1st rd picks who won't play for 3-4 years? Trading guys like Farabee, Frost, etc. are usually package deals to upgrade. But there are only a few trades like this every season, b/c there are limited numbers of upgrades available.

Laughton and Risto are the most likely candidates, still have value, too old to have value to the Flyers in 3 years. Fedotov this summer if he builds up his value (age and crowded position).
50% of the team for picks or expiring contracts. Put the yutes. See what happens.

You cant let a mediocre team's play with glaring holes and no shot at a Cup dictate whether or not you make moves to improve the team on Michkov's timeline. It doesn't make sense. If the players throw a fit because Laughton and Risto are moved, then maybe the culture isn't great to begin with.

they don't want to disrupt that championship culture they have..so nothing hard will be made..they are also back to believing they are better than they are because of their current position

Kinda ironic this was used as a defense for a franchise that literally rides a "Safe is death" motto, eh

Unless its obviously, just like everything around this franchise today, just words.

Does this mean Drysdale is coming off of IR?
That or they don't play until Thursday so they want Grans to play for LHV Wednesday then will recall him for Thursday. If they are playing the cap game but to play that with a low contract is odd for this team that doesn't seem to care about the cap.

It's early December, what's the rush?

Patience is a virtue, b/c if you're not getting offers that make it worthwhile to move someone, why rush into a deal?

If you're only being offered the same deal you can get in 3 or 6 months, why not wait?
If you wait, someone on a PO team might get injured or a GM fall in love.

Most hockey trades take place the week before the TDL or the weeks before the draft.
That's when you'll have the most buyers. So unless someone makes "an offer you can't refuse," feel free to refuse offers.

Grans going down suggests they expect Drysdale back by Thursday.

The rush is we know they want to ride the wave of the good results. Yes I am saying only the results are good. See last year for recent history that proves this.

They say they are rebuilding. Their actions do not prove this. Rebuilding teams do what everyone but you seems to be saying. They unload people to open space for them to trial players. Yet we know they don't have space to do that as they had to send Richard and Grans back to LHV due to players returning from injury.

If the only change over the past couple of years is that the talking point was "October, November games don't matter" and now it changes to "December doesn't matter much either", I'm sure this franchise is going in the right direction.

Check the roster of the "rebuilding" (tanking) teams. They have more over 30 players than the Flyers.

Rebuilding teams don't unload players to make space, they unload players for value or to free up cap room (shed bad contracts). They then sign cheap older players so they don't have to rush prospects.

Richard is 28, he's almost as old as Laughton. Bad example.

Other teams are also bad at this!

Yep. Who cares and what does that have to do with the Flyers?

Good example in that he's been deemed good enough to play here but is blocked by players worse than him due to "ROLES"

Blocked by whom? Laughton?
Laughton has trade value, Richard doesn't.
Laughton also does more, top PK guy, can fill in at center if needed.
You're not sitting Farabee (24), Tippett (25), Foerster (23) for Richard.
Or TK, Michkov or Brink.
Hathaway is also a top PK guy and the best forechecker on the team.

Only one player could be moved without easily disrupting this team. Breathtaking example of what's rotten to the core.

I don’t think they’re capable of a Carter-Richards trade these days because they’ve descended into undiluted cowardice in deciding who to jettison. They can only take the path of least resistance: selling low on a player they don’t like.

Rebuilding teams sign cheap older players to short contracts so they can flip them at the deadline.

Who fits this category on the Flyers? No one. Their veterans are essential to the rebuild. Their young players already on the team are essential to the rebuild. No one of significance is ever traded unless the coach/management doesn't like them or their contract is about to expire and they can't resign them. This team is the definition of a stuck in neutral mediocre mindset.
