That guy’s a hall of famer who won Stanley Cups. Brady lost his mind at fans because they were tired of watching a bottom feeder for 7 seasons. I like Brady but these aren’t close to being comparable.
Who cares? The same message still applies. Espo was standing up for his teammates and trying to get the fans to see things from a different perspective. Brady was doing the exact same thing.

It really speaks to the entitlement of fans that they take issue with the captain sticking up for his teammates. I guess you guys can dish it out but you can't take it. Speak about accountability, but when Brady reminds you guys that the fans are a part of the team too and you don't turn your back on your team when the going gets tough you get all whiny about it.

Around the bend
Focusing your disappointment solely on Brady is lazy, and frankly a poor analysis of the team as a whole. Everyone knows he has some warts defensively. He is clearly trying to work on them this season. Team results haven't been there. Tkachuk has been the second best forward on the team. No issue with his effort either.

This is still a bottom 3rd of the league team. Has been similar for 3 seasons player wise. They just aren't that good of a team. They don't have winning habits to fall back on, because they have never won consistently. They don't have a high skill level, not particularly physical, pretty slow overall. No real identity other than that of a team that doesn't know what it is yet.

Has been some glimpses of things finally coming together this season, but it hasn't happened. Swap Brady for another winger who produces a bit more, or is a bit better defensively, and the team is still bad.

Need more from all the players, Brady included. Probably need better players throughout the lineup realistically. The likelihood of patching up a team put together by Dorion and turning it into a perennial playoff team is a massive challenge.

The captaincy is overrated by hockey fans. He's one of the players on the team, who has a leadership role. Their are other leaders as well. He wears the C, and takes the blame from some, but he's just one player on the team in the end.

There are times when you should defend the team, there are other times when a call out and/or accountability may be what’s needed. Brady does a lot of the former. He should try the latter.

It’s kind of odd how everyone walks on eggshells when criticizing Brady. His brother never got that benefit of doubt. He shouldered a lot of blame in the disappointing Calgary playoff runs, and during his first year in Florida, his dad went on Toronto radio and called the Panthers a soft team.

Maybe TSN1200 should get him on to do that to his younger son…
Its not Brady job to call out the team in the media. Actually its not even his job to motivate others on the team those guys are getting paid well. They need to show up

Playing “hard” is a platitude. I want him to play an effective, winning brand of hockey, every period and every night.

I think he can do it. I don’t think he’s done it.

Jacques Martin said as much. But this year, nothing’s really changed.

Daniel Alfredsson could have played to score 40 goals every year. But he cared about more than just that, and adapted his game accordingly.

The only guy I’ve noticed who’s really made an effort to be a little bit different is Stützle. Everyone else? They’re playing like it’s 2020 and DJ wants them to have a good time. Brady included.
Brady doesn't play winning hockey? Ya that's just not true. You don't need a roster littered with 200 foot players if a player is bringing different dimensions to the game. Brady def plays a style that is required to win and it shows in his production.

Is the narrative that he is scoring more than guys like Pinto and Norris bcause they are playing better defensively? cause that's just not true

I completely agree here.

Winning games means playing as hard trying to stop a goal than to score a goal. Mark Stone, Daniel Alfredsson, Marian Hossa type hockey. Guys that led by example on this ice. Fighting and hitting hard is great if you’re winning hockey games. It’s great entertainment value and people will always be defensive about Tkachuk but the reality is he could be a much better player if he just wanted to commit defensively.

I remember seeing a few games here and there where Brady took over the game defensively, broke plays, created turnovers, backchecked as hard as he forechecked. These games are few and far between. Brady could legitimately be one of the best players in the league if he decided to commit to 200ft hockey but it’s just not in him.

I remember watching Alfie Sens and I cannot remember a single shift in his last 10 years where he wasn’t doing literally everything possible offensively and defensively.

Tkachuk is a top of the line complimentary player. He’s a specialized player. He’s great in front of the net and around the net. Love him and love having him but Stutzle is very much showing this is his team. The effort level he gives every night both offensively and defensively is not even close to the rest of the roster. We need more guys who play winning hockey. Guys that will get us in a playoff spot.

Jason York had an excellent segment on why the Sens are losing and he says it’s the minor deatils of the game - not going through players, fly-bys, stick position, poorly timed penalties, line changes - Brady can’t play all 20 positions but there has to a complete mindset change with the team and you see the Captain not doing the details of the game, it makes you believe everyone can get away with it.

Brady is haunted by Alfie, not 7 years no playoffs. We know what an example Alfie set, we know his blue collar commitment to the game, Jason York was bragging about how Alfie’s teams considered themselves the best detailed team in the NHL, everything had a purpose.

Sens aren’t playing detailed hockey, there’s a lack of purpose to their game. That’s leadership. How can your 3rd and 4th line veterans and core guys not be hitting every single detail of their game every shift? Where’s the accountability? How can they no show versus SJ and then start 10 minutes late versus L.A?

So what is Brady Tkachuk responsible for as team captain then?

He shouldn't need to motivate others, he shouldn't need to play a 200 foot game, he shouldn't need to create opportunities for his teammates.

He should be wish.com Ovechkin? Is that it? And you think that's winning hockey? Really?

That's what the Anaheim game looked like to me. wish.com Ovechkin.

So Brady was just taking his cues from a good example, would you prefer he emulate captains like olli Jokinen instead?

I'd prefer he takes his cues from a captain, any captain for his on ice play and not his off-ice yapping.

Leadership is super easy when all you do is talk. An HFBoards poster could be captain if that's all that is needed.

I'm over Brady Tkachuk and the obsession some seem to have with him. 7 going on 8 seasons of failure as a team, 6 going on 7 with Tkachuk, 3 going on 4 with Tkachuk as a captain. It's time to move on.

When all you do is talk? So Brady does nothing on the ice now eh? I get some people want more from him on the defensive side, there are fair criticisms to be made, but you talk about obsession, perhaps some need to look in the mirror is need for that one, it's a team sport, trying to lay the blame for 7 years on his leadership is bonkers.

What does good leadership on the ice look like to you? 4 years of November meltdowns leading to (soon to be) 4 years of missed playoffs?

If that's the standard I guess Brady Tkachuk is an amazing leader.

Some of us are hoping this team can eventually make the playoffs and when we keep making changes - new owner, new GM, new coach, new top 6 players, new top 4 defensemen and it's the same story year after year maybe it's time to look at the players who have been here the whole time. And at the top of that list are - Thomas Chabot and Brady Tkachuk.

Right, a different captain and we'd have made the playoffs every year, and have two cups already, right?

I get it, people are frustrated and he's the face of the team so he gets the lion's share of the attention, but the problems with this team over the last 7 years hasn't been poor leadership preventing us from success, we've had poorly constructed rosters, and a GM that was leaking high picks for a year or two poor fits, and we're suffering the consequences of that mismanagement.

No but with better leadership maybe we make the WC#2 slot this year or last year or the year before that or the year before that.

An 8 season playoff drought is not normal and Brady Tkachuk fans seem to want to pretend it is while throwing the Ottawa Senators under the bus.

Tkachuk was going to make Korpisalo a vezina caliber goalie now? Come on, you can't actually believe the crap you're posting, can you? We had the leagues worst goaltending last year and you think better leadership turns that around?

Toronto had a winning record with an 0.890 goaltender that season.
New Jersey had a winning record with an 0.890 goaltender that season.

Ottawa had a losing record with an 0.890 goaltender that season.

Seems to be anyone but Tkachuk with some people. Does this team have other problems? Has this team had other problems in the past? Sure.

But what does it say about this team and Tkachuk that if we don't get significantly above average goaltending we are not making the playoffs? It says the skaters suck and that it's time to make changes. And one big one that would improve this team in the longterm is moving on from Brady Tkachuk so we can figure out who is who. Instead of just running everything through Brady Tkachuk on the powerplay and coming up short like we did in Anaheim.

You think the difference between Toronto and Ottawa was good leadership? Wild.
