Pretty Subdued.

You know how many times I saw Alfredsson give interviews like this? A lot. That's why I am glad Alfie is helping this team, because players like Brady have a lot to learn from him, both on and off the ice. Tkatchuk is sick and tired of not making the playoffs. So are we the fans. But, if we make a strong run, we still have a chance this season. If after next season we aren't there, then I don't blame him for having enough. He needs to buy in to playing playoff hockey though. But I think Brady knew what he was signing up for, when he took a long term contract with this team.

I'm a bit underwhelmed with Brady's play this year. He definitely has a lot of growing up to do. But, I think the real problem was treating him almost godlike from the time he was drafted. Even someone with their feet firmly on the ground will eventually get corrupted by that sort of thing. So part of the blame for that is on the old regime, and on us, the fans. We pumped those tires real good.

He has a lot of bad habits he has to unlearn, and rebuild parts of his game to be that total player. It's going to take a while. And frankly, I'm willing to him him a decent amount of time to do it because he's a unicorn. But he isn't getting an infinite amount of time, either.

Someone like Bath gets a much shorter rope (and I think he knows it because he's gone all-in on working with the coaching staff since the change). I really do like Batherson's improvement, but he's got to add long-term consistency to it for me to really get onboard, simply because he's been such a yo-yo the last couple of seasons.

And that's really a big part of this core. No one has really proven anything yet (despite some nice point totals). Timmy, Sandy, Thomas, and Norris...all of them still need to prove themselves to varying degrees. The whole "they're kids!" excuse is definitely starting to wear off. That raises expectations for all of them, and puts them under that microscope. It's the mental game...who can handle it, who can't. Who can be forged in steel, and who bends to the pressure. This is the testing grounds, til the end of the season.

True. His body language says it all. How he downplays the coaching change at every opportunity. I am getting some major Jack Eichel vibes from him. Even if they managed to win 5 in a row, he would stubbornly say it is "basically the same thing", blah blah blah, as he has said whenever the Sens have won since Martin.

Too bad. I thought he was going to be a player so unique and loved that his jersey would go right beside Alfie's one day.

In person again, last night to watch a farce of a game. This captain is resisting to do what it takes to truly win, and I cannot for the life of me understand why. The coaching staff on every opposing team must have the same pregame notes: "When Tkachuk is on the ice, move the pucks to the points for an open shot and shoot. Defenders, you will have time to make a great play so make plays tongiht against the Tkachuk line. Be patient as he will drop to the slot and leave you guys open, especially as his shifts are too long"

He was my favourite player on this team, and I guess he has had enough of the losing, enough of the missed playoffs, enough of the season being over before New Year's.

Kinda don't blame him but I do? I am conflicted with this player and this situation. Starting to resent him...
If you are right about Tkachuk not buying in (and worse with his public facial expressions and body language), then I blame it on his being pampered previously and now losing his "Big Man on Campus" status handed to him by DJ and PD.

And if Stutzle is smirking along with him then we'll see a trade.

A bit of a tangent ... years ago Whitey Herzog took over as manager of the St. Louis Cardinals in baseball. The catcher (Simmons if I recall) approached Herzog and told him that he was very popular with fans and teammates and does what he wants. He was traded within a week.

I hope it doesn't come down to a battle of will between Tkachuk and whoever the coach is.

Or, he's buying into what JM and Alfredsson are selling:

Short shifts: In 4 of the 6 post-DJ games, Tkachuk's shift length has been 40 seconds or less. He's being put on the ice more, but getting off faster.

Keeping an even keel: JM and Alfredsson were the kings of saying as little as possible. Never got too high or too low. Kept everything in the room. We don't need any public proclamations that everything is fixed after a couple of wins from Brady.

5 pts in 6 games since the coaching change. 2 pts in 6 games before the coaching change.

Congrats on his all star selection.

Personally would have gone with Drake but eh

The "one representative from every team" for the all-star game is a bit of a joke (the whole game is, so it doesn't matter I suppose).

He's not an all-star this year. And neither is Boone Jenner. Or Nick Suzuki. Or Tom Wilson.

Brady is probably pissed. He'll miss out on a Cabo trip.

It is not like there is anybody who is far and away ahead of the pack.

IMO, it should be Chychrun or Giroux, but it could really be any of 3-4 guys.

As far as the name value thing goes, the All Star game isn't really an objective thing. It's a gimmick. If you pay big money to take your kid to the game, do you want to see rosters filled with the objectively best all around players, or so you want to see the biggest stars?

Look at the comments. So embarrassing. So stupid. Sometimes I think this city doesn’t deserve a team, after reading such crap.

This is a great hockey town. We just set the record for most fans at a professional women's game, and will set another record for WJC tickets sold next year. Despite having a 29th place NHL team, 19,000+ people showed up for their last game.

Funny how some folks think Brady was crapping on the fans when he was in fact just crapping on the boobirds.

Is it your opinion that the people who wanted DJ fired and made it known at games weren't fans?

You can agree or disagree with how Brady handled the situation, and you can agree of the people who boo'd and chanted fire DJ, but the people he was critical of the coach and teams performance were indeed fans of the team,

No but there was one bad tweet! Therefore the ENTIRE fan base sucks! And no other fan base has a single person posting a bad tweet!

Okay. Let's play that game.

How many are from other fanbases? NOT TOO MANY
It's funny because you used to argue that people's opinions on forums and Twitter are in the minority when it comes to the team but when a fraction of said minority makes negative comments on Twitter it's the end all be all to the overall health of the fanbase.

New year, same you
