Things would have to be pretty dire before I would ever miss Kyle Dubas. The guy who inherited everything and burned it to the ground. I'm not saying he didn't make any good moves, he did, but he inherited a young stacked roster and won a single playoff round and left the team far worse than the one he inherited. I'm glad he's screwing up Pitt now.

I will say tho, Lou left him some pretty heavy grenades as parting gifts as well. The Marleau contract and Zaitsev contracts that Dubas had to move started the trend of mismanaging assets. We were right up against the cap with 3 major RFA’s to sign.

Pitt is gonna be a playoff team and I’m not a Dubasite. Crosby is that dude and can play with anyone. They’ll figure it out. Jerry is even a fraction better they’ll be in the hunt!
At crosby and malkins age you can never assume that they're going to be the same players that they were last year.

Luke was a guy we certainly had a lot of interest in bringing back. He is that big, hard defender, but it got to a level where, as I said, it’s good for Luke.

So the term or AAV (3 years and 2.75M cap hit) for Schenn was too much but he had no issue handing out a 3 year deal to a 36 year old Reaves and 4 years for Kampf.

Schenn is more important to this team than either of those guys and the fact that he doesn’t recognize that doesn’t really speak well of his judgment.

They are 35, not 40. Crosby had 93 points, Malkin had 80 points. It’s so stupid how y’all overreact to age. They are still very good players and have many good years left. Both are still phenomenal skaters.

Dubas and the Pens grab Acciari at $2M per, that's good value.

Leafs are just going to increase the paydays of the already underachieving playoff Core it seems. That is the agenda.

This loyalty to a core of players who have won 1 round in seven years needs to be studied by future sports franchises on how NOT to build a winner.

It's very rare for players to still be playing at that level at the age of 36, which is what crosby will be this season. A big decline is going to happen soon, just as likely it's next season as any.

Letting kerfoot holl and bunting walk Is already good sign.

Organization with puck from backend has been problem for a while. At least he didn't trade Kadri for Barrie to try to get some transition going. If it works out the effect will be big overall.if it doesn't we didn't give up assets and can cut him next year.

Reaves is over reaction extreme. Only making headlines because it's toronto. Teams make these low cap hit random signings all the time.

He seems to be seeing the flaw in team but we need more Hyman level add now. He ramping up the charts. Reaves < berg < ???

I don’t get this response, I for one am glad we didn’t hand out stupid contracts today.

Play the kids, retool for a year and play the trade market. Give Knies and Robertson play time. Play Holmberg, Steeves and McMann. We need to get younger and faster.
Absolutely they need to know what they have up front.

Rebuilding the D will take a little while, but if they can find the 2nd pairing duo in the next 15 months and then use JT’s cap to find a real stud after that, it would be nice to know if Woll and the other kids can play.

We know D is always a point of focus for Treliving and he even has indicated that’s an area he’d like to make changes. I’m curious to see what his our finished product D is going to look like and how he intends to get there.

Wtf is this. We have no less cap flexibility than we've had for the last 4 years. And we have been one of the best teams in the league over that time. Now apparently we should expect average and Treliving will be blameless?
If we stop being a competitive team then that's 100% all on Shanahan.

Yeah there's some revisionist history going on here. I remember everyone being mad Lou gave Marleau a 3rd year because of the conflict it would cause with the big 3 coming off their ELC.

At the same time, let's be real. Dubas walked into a team with ELC Matthews, Marner and Nylander + Rielly and Kadri on sweetheart deals...he could've built the team in any direction he chose and he chose to build an NHL23 team with the injuries turned off. What other team in the league has that kind of young talent right now?

They also chose the weirdest vets to mentor the best young players. Why would you elect to bring in a career loser that is known for milking his teams in contract negotiations as a mentor for Matthews and Marner? Or a guy like Thornton who is known for exceptional regular seasons and subpar post-seasons? Look at how many similarities there are from those Sharks teams and this Leafs team.

People complain Trel did not sign players x y z.. but maybe.. just maybe players x y z preferred to play elsewhere and do not want to be on the team of the “core 4 and the leftovers”.

People think Dubas some kind GM god, but is in fact not. But is someone who did nothing, who walked into a situation with the 3 top players already in his lap, signs JT to a horrible and unnecessary contract, gets bullied into more bad contacts for AM and MM.

Puts himself into a corner because the team had no cap for the rest of the team and has to fill out the rest of the team year after year with cheap fill ins.

Strip mines the team of any prospects and picks. Then apparently makes some silly contract demands knowing they would not be met and is ok with that because he already has a safety net of another team willing to hire him and leave this team in a possible downward trajectory.

This guy is a moron and is proving more and more that this was a desperation hire by the minute.

Does he have any sort of plan or vision laid out? Looks like he’s just signing crap and that’s his plan
haha, How's about you wait and see and give the guy a chance to see his plan and vision? The mess that Dubis left him might take another year or two to see his plan or vision.

I'm curious. What hasn't he done yet? That's making you unimpressed.
Well obviously he has not magically convinced high priced UFAs to sign for super cheap to fit in the very limited cap space. He also has not managed to trade one of the many prospects or picks that the team does not have for a star player.
