We can only hope that Sam Bennett doaent rsign in Florida

MO if we don'mt do well in the playoffs is he traded there iss no #1 D avaliable in free agency

Lots of decisions to make

It's October let's not worry about the 2025 off season right now.

6 games in and this team feels and looks different. Does that mean they’ll be more successful in the playoff who knows!
Yep, its still so early but Im liking what Im seeing so far....Im more excited with the new players than I am with the core at this point. Knies and McMann are exactly what this team has needed on the left side and OEL has been much much more than I thought he was gonna be. Tanev being Tanev is good and of course Stolarz has been steady steady steady. Good stuff, so far.

It's easy to be excited about the new guys and the supporting players for sure. They are have been good and strong contributors to our solid start. Berube has also done a good job managing the lineup night in and night out...sitting McMann seemed to get a positive result, same with Pacioretty,Reaves and Timmins to a lesse degree.

Our core may not be exciting for us right now, because they always score points but they seem to be buying into Berube's system and culture and we can't argue with the evidence and results. The core four (along with Knies) lead us ice time among forwards and we are playing well at both ends, we have allowed 10 ES goals in six games. The forwards get credit for that for sure.

It feels like we haven't seen them hit their offensive or PP stride yet, but they are still producing at decent rates (I know only six games so far)

Marner is on pace for 95 points and 80 assists
Nylander is on pace for 68 goals and 95 points.
Matthews is on pace for 40 goals and 70 points (and a million goalposts and bars)
Tavares is on pace for 30 goals and 50 points (as 3C)
Domi is a PPG so far too.

I know it is way too early to project anything, but if the top guns have felt quiet, they have been quietly effective and seem to be leading by example in the Berube world.

I'm still cautious about Treliving and feel like his FA decisions in 2023 were one of the worst of the Matthews era; however, Im very happg with his decisions so far for 2024 as they look like they have the potential to be one of the best.

2023:
- Domi
- Bertuzzi
- kampf
- Holmberg
- Reaves
- Samsonov

2024:
- Domi
- OEL
- Tanev
- Stolarz
- Lorentz
- Liljegren
- Woll
- Hakanpaa
- Pacioretty

Obviously it's early in the year and things haven't been positive so far for Woll/Liljegren/Hakanpaa, but overall it is far better than last year.

Im gonna hold back on praising the core 4 until I see more but I like Willys game a lot and Domi continues to surprise me.

Marner is marner and honestly I still think he hasn't changed much if at all so playoffs will be interesting to see. Im not convinced he has the gear/fortitude needed to succeed when it matters but Im open to him showing me Im wrong about that.

Matthews can be sooo good but he leaves me wanting a bit more sometimes as I know he has it in him and he has shown glimpses of it. He will get his goals as he is too good at scoring not to, but Im looking at him to see if he has that leadership drag the team to success on his shoulders if he has to attitude cause he has the skills to. do just that.

Tavares honestly looks like he is lost most of the time and is having a hard time keeping up....the game seems to be passing him by but it is early so....at least Berube isnt cramming him on to the 2nd line just because. Lets see what he does with less minutes and less responsibility but so far he looks average to meh to me.

All in all a pleasant start to the season. Definitely liking the direction we are heading but still cautious and trying not to get ahead of myself in my excitement of what seems to be a new team/new attitude. Fool me once as they say.

I have been saying it ever since we hired Berube; our core four better be happy scoring less points but winning more. We need to have balance and depth to succeed after the regular season ends.

As for the four specifically, it's early. Marner always starts slow and is again, even with seven points. I don't love that in this way he is doing what he always does. I want change there.

Willy has been good of course. Matthews seems calm and like a good leader somehow, he is getting his shot and blocked a big one last night. Tavares was going to be in a reduced role, he is also coming back from illness.

The team is playing like a team, playing hard and responsibly...I think we have to give the core four some credit for this.

Amazing how much different things can look after a couple more days eh?

I think I'm back to docking Tre a whole bunch of points for not trading Mitchy before his NMC kicked in and no, I don't believe he needed a year to "see what he had".

These guys played pretty well the first few games, so much for thinking we'd maybe see more consistent hockey this year. Sigh.

Only 8 games but it really is looking like the same old song and dance.

What can you really do with another rendition of the core 4 + pawn shop squad though, we've seen it many times now - it only does so much.

He only trolls. No acknowledging of anything.

Stay on topic, please 🤡

Are you acknowledging that the core is the problem?

I'm acknowledging that a coach who yells loud is not an automatic solution.

Nah, we should pay a few more forwards 10 million+ a year and get a player friendly coach here. The coaches they've had are way too hard on them, they need a loving, peaceful coach, that will get them the cup for sure. 👍

You can blame Treliving for re-signing them... that is what this thread is about.

When you bring in a coach like Berube you have to realize you are neutering your offensive stars to some respect. The point is to get to a place where they have a more sustainable winning style for the playoffs.

But it looks pretty ugly when you also suck defensively in back to back games against mid teams.

He only signed two of the four, let's see what he does with the other two before you blame him too much. After all, your hero had 5 years here to accomplish winning one playoff series, let's see if Brad can improve on that amazing feat in the same timeframe.
