Brad Treliving is doing a great job.

Why is it "considering how much their salaries make it impossible" rather than "considering how much he overpaid them makes it impossible"?

You may be right that they "won't ice a better playoff ready team than last year with the current cap structure", but who's fault is "the current cap structure"?

Is it on the players or the GM?
I said from the beginning I would have traded Nylander rather than give in to the demands of an RFA. It isn't hsi fault that he was hired so young and tasked with negotiating these contracts.

All of the wizards on Sportsnet (especially) and TSN who demanded he get signed because it would hurt their bottom line otherwise, pressured Dubas and the MLSE.

Recall how much SN overpaid for 13 years of NHL hockey. They took a bath and the CEO is a former CEO for a reason. My guess is that someone grossly miscalculating the revenue streams and Leafs as always overpay because they have the cash. This won't work in a capped era.

Little bit of column A, little bit of column B.
It’s not like Matthews said give me an 8x8 and Dubas said no,no, let me give you 11 over 5. I think the players here have to bear some brunt of the ire. They just haven’t performed in the playoffs, as players they themselves think they are, should.

And last year, it was the best team this core has been surrounded with, and once they win 1 round they fold. Fold like a cheap hooker who got hit in the stomach by a fat guy with sores on his face.

As of July 1st it technically becomes Treliving’s doing, in place of Dubas (but really it’s clear now Shanahan is the man behind the mask for both).

Tre had a month to come in and do some real cowboy shit if that was what he was hired to do. But it’s clear that isn’t his mandate.

You didn't address either of my points, but....

RFA? You're going back there?

If you want to talk about "give in to the demands of an RFA", you're taking about Matty and Mitch much more than Willy.

And now it's Sportsnet and TSN who negotiated the contracts?

It sounds like a lot of excuses to try to absolve Dubas.

This guy hasn't done jack shit and all the good teams got better

The reason why we can't do anything to get better and actually compete in the playoffs like what Vegas does is bc we have overpaid stars and the little cap space we do get, we use it and LTIR on shitty players like Klingberg and Murray instead of Stone and Martinez.

It's a pipe dream but it would be great if McCabe's "illness" tonight is code for being traded before the deadline to try and recoup some of the picks squandered by the moron before Tre.

Trading a future 1st and 2nd round pick for McCabe and Sam Lafferty.......jesus Dubas was a god awful GM.

The team Dubas put together at the deadline last year was the best playoff ready team this group could have asked for considering how much their salaries make it impossible to find flexibility. They won't ice a better playoff ready team than last year with the current cap structure.

You can’t be serious with that comment.

Even if Treliving does absolutely NOTHING between now and Friday at 3pm, this year’s team is infinitely better than last year.

Two hopeless pylons on defence - - Justin Holl and AssMus Sandin.

Pathetically soft figure skaters up front who can’t score and can’t hit - - Pete Engvall, Al Kerfoot, Zach AssWipe Reese, Noel Accari and Sam LaughAtMe.

And don’t forgot about Dave The Save Rittich in net that Kyle Dumbass gave away a 3rd round pick to acquire.

It’s unbelievable how many draft picks and prospects Dumbass gave up and that piss-poor outfit was the best he could assemble.

He came here having to sign our two best players as soon a possible, and did. Nether deal is perfect - longer term for Matty and lower aav for Willy would have been preferable - but neither is bad. He dealt with the immediate issues, and has another year to figure out what to do about JT and Mitch.
I didn't say these moves weren't right, I said he appears to believe in the core and that's exactly why he's here, so does Shanahan.

The core is unchanged, he's re-upped the two guys he was allowed to, paid them handsomely, and buddy said he'll blow it up if we don't win. That's weird, everything he's done suggests he's on team Top 4.

I think people just want him to be better than the last guy because they don't like the last guy (or worse than the last guy because they really liked the last guy), when the reality is we've changed GMs but stayed the course. He's doing basically the same job.

He was a very bad joke. It's amazing someone that clueless would be made Gm of the Leafs. Arizona maybe but not the perfect build in Toronto. I don't think this team is better than last year's playoff team but that is not Tres fault.

I'm not disagreeing with you. I'm just pointing out that he signed the top two, which I think just about any GM would, but hasn't had a chance to do anything with the others, so assuming "he's on team Top 4" might be premature.

The dubasites want to blame Tre so they don't have to be embarrassed about how they gushed all over Wonderboy because he had glasses.

Vegas also has that thing going where there star, high salary, players get huts landing them extra cap space only to be immediately ready to go once the playoffs start and the cap means nothing...

I agree that this year's team is better equipped for playoff hockey. People forget that we were lucky to win the first round last playoffs. The better team was Tampa throughout the series. We got lucky in those OT games but didn't play particularly well.

Tre has done a decent job in getting players who are more gritty, and he is restricted of doing anything because of Dubas' moves in the past.

How do you figure last years team was better than this year’s team?

Last year the bottom six forwards had a bunch of Pierre Engvall clones. They were absolutely useless.

Justin Holl was unplayable on defence even though Keefe kept trying to force him into playing but pretty much every time Holl was on the ice he got posterized and scored on.

AssMus Sandin was almost as terrible as Holl.

But please explain how you think that was a better team?

A Leafs GM can't even pick his nose without it going through Shanny first. Shanny is the one doing all the major hiring/firing/approving trades. Too much focus on the GM and not enough on the bigger problem.

You mean the same Holl who helped Toronto have one of the best PKs in the league and who is currently +7 on a young weak Detroit team?

But also the same Holl who was a mainstay on a roster that lost in humiliating fashion in the first round (and play-in round) 3 years in a row as a member of this team, who was (and still is on Detroit) regularly healthy scratched because of his poor play.

Yes, Justin Holl the useless gimp who’s been a healthy scratch sitting in the press box for a month and a half because he’s not even good enough to see any ice time on a piss-poor Detroit team.

That’s him!
