I have an idea to get a top 6 center to compliment , Stepan , hypothetically Lindbergh , Miller . You make a hockey trade . Doesn't have to be a flashy name just a player with good wheels that isn't crap in his own end and can transport the puck and distribute it to Nash .

And having Miller AND Lindberg be ready for consistent NHL duty next season is just insane.

So, you're one of those people that waits almost 2 years to pat yourself on the back? And after about 20 games of poor play, no less. Lockout shortened season...the list goes on.

I'm not saying hes going to last his entire contract, or even past the summer of 2014, but I do think holding out hope that Richards can revert back to his old form is the best play right now. Certainly a better decision than ranting and raving about how you want him gone with no suitable plan to how we'll get a top 6 center.

But rediculousness aside, I do think having him off the ice without replacement is best at this point. Its a turnover more than 50% of the time he touches the puck and I don't think forcing a guy making this type of cash into the lineup who is doing nothing helps a locker room. And I don't think he's reverting back to his old form - have you been watching Ranger games? I hope I am wrong, but he is just constantly a step behind every time he is on the ice. He is an old guy, doesn't stay in the best shape, and it was a long off season - probability says there will be no reverting back.

Well if it makes you feel any better, I was in these forums early in the Richards speculation threads not buying into what so many people were saying...that Richards would instantly fix our power play, and combine with Gaborik to give us the next 1-2 superstar combination of our generation.

I thought Richards would help for a couple of years, but a long contract would cripple us in the future. I was right to some extent about the first part, and luckily the new CBA gave Sather another safety net to bounce Richards in the next two years.

I agree about everything else. I think hes earmarked for a buyout in the summer of 2014, but the amount of complaining and calling for even more roster turnover is incorrigible right now. When, in the real world, the best course of action is to just hope Richards and Gaborik play to their potentials

I stand by we are better off without Richards. If you didn't know we have young guys such as DelZotton and others we need to sign this offseason and don't have cap space for. We lost guys like Prust because we didn't have cap space for him. But let's just keep a guy who is doing nothing eating up 7mil of cap space. I am sorry, but it doesn't make sense to me. We aren't coming close to winning the cup with Richards in or out of the lineup so I'd like to stop the bleeding before his cap hit causes the team more problems.

I'm all for hoping Richards get better . He was Ok last year , and I haven't forgotten the last minute heroics and GWG he had . He had 15 pts in 20 PO games . These are acceptable numbers . His play away from the puck , along the boards in winning battles is bad . His play on the PP last year and this one is bad . His skating which was so good he was a mid third round pick after winning every award in the Q is even worse . His country club golf wine aficionado mentality and too cool for school emotions are not who I want wearing a letter on this team . Wreaks of nepotism from Torts his buddy , and that same coddling has only caused him to play him where he shouldn't be on a top line with Nash, who clearly plays his most consistent hockey with Hagelin on the other wing and anyone but Richards centering him .

Richards helping for a couple of years was the plan all along. This teams window is completely done when Lundqvist's play starts slipping.

Its unfortunate that Richards' play has nosedived so far in this short season, but Im not ready to write him off yet as an effective player.

No but after 2013/14, regardless of his performance, they'll think long and hard about using their final compliance buy-out on him. He's getting paid too much money for too many years, with the possibility of a cap penalty if he retires early (a strong possibility).

No. He still has next year, but even if he plays well he still needs to be bought out.

If year 2 is THIS bad how is year 4 or 5 going to be? A god damn nightmare.

Nope, but its pretty necessary to do so in the summer of 2014, even if he has a great season next year.

What drives me batty are the "Oh my GOD get rid of thiz guy!!!" posts with zero perspective or long term thinking. They see a guy struggling and they want him gone...if it were only that simple.

Whether we like it or not, the Rangers are ALWAYS going to have to import their top tier talent. When Richards goes, he will be replaced by another top notch free agent in his late 20's/early 30's.

Its a vicious cycle, yet its the only way the Rangers can address their 1st line.

It's not like RIchards great defense or face off ability is off the charts good . He literally brings down every line he is on and could probably be easily replaced by a rookie , mistakes inexperience and all . I mean what's worst can happen they will be out of the playoff picture with 18 games to go.

This team is not going to rebuild. When Richards goes, he will be replaced by another guy that you'll probably complain about after 15-20 games.

If you think when Sather signed Richards two years he was aware of the fact that there would be an amnesty buyout available in two years....well, I'm just going to have to disagree with that, shake my head and walk away.

Buyout Richards, Sign Ribiero. Keep Gaborik. I don't know what the market will be for Ribiero. He's on the older side but still very effective. Offer 5M/3 Years.

Try and trade for Ott, sign a RW UFA that can provide a little offense. Don't overpay. Dump all the rest. Halpern, Bickel, Asham, Pyatt can all go.

Oh so now we have come full circle to the Hanks good years left argument . I call me like I see em and was down on Richards from day 1 . He made some plays but appeared to be a player that was soft , an ill fit and not worth what we paid him . Not sure why a rebuild is so out of the question . Your high horse needs to be put down . In all honesty Gold medal , Vezina , and HOF aside it's not the teams prime directive to make the most out of HANKS BEST YEARS . The Blackhawks won the cup and re stocked rebuilt and are back on top again .

Richards is a pu pu platter. I hope we all enjoyed our brief dreams of winning a cup, cuz that ain't happening anytime soon. Right now we a very average team. If you can't beat a decimated Panther team, at home, good luck making the playoffs.

lol, give up on Prust... what a joke. PAP is nice in hindsight, but he just didn't fit here at the time.
we are not signing aging stars anymore. this is the old line pulled out when frustration sets in.

B.Richards maybe playing bad right now, but he's not finished. He's only 32.
