I would add Wade Redden to the worst signings list, but remove Gomez. Don't forget, Gomez resulted in Ryan McDonough.

Sather didn't sign Gomez to trade him for McDonagh. The fact that we were basically forced to trade him after two seasons proves he was a bad signing. The return we got in the trade was nothing more than dumb luck.

I've never seen a guy kill an attack like this guy does. Not only are his legs gone, but I think his vision has disappeared. That Hail Mary pass to the nobody last night was god-awful.

It really was. And I say this knowing full well that I could come across as one of those WFAN mongo fans....but I really cannot justify his spot in the line up at this point. I honestly believe the grinding & forechecking of Newbury would better serve this team as the 4th line center. I know it won't happen, but he is bringing absolutely nothing positive to the team at this point.

B. Richards was called out by Pierre on national TV last night as being a worse fourth line center than Greg Campbell.

I was originally OK with giving him one last training camp/season to show something but now I'm with the crowd that is worried of a long term injury sticking the Rangers with his salary and I think he should be bought out this summer.

He will be bought out this summer. If he isn't I will be SHOCKED.

It is one thing for all of us to get on him, but the fact that even Torts has demoted him to the 4th line shows a lot. He became an AHL player in one offseason and in addition to being useless out there he actually hurts other players chances. Last night he was actually dragging down our 4th line.

Gross. Just gross

If/when they buy him out,how does it work? I know he comes clean off the books but what kind of money does he get to become a free agent?? Does he get all the money owed on his current contract?

I think that's how it works. But either way. He plays like this and we need to buy him out, seriously develop some C power or get a real bottom six C and make sure Stepan an Brass turn out well.

Worst signings IMHO

Redden
Gomez
Drury
Richards

In that order..Thats alot of bad judgement right there.

I really don't think Drury and Richards belong on that list. Richards was, in many respects, the reason we did the #1 seed yo-yo the last couple of years. It's not a coincidence his first (best) year with us resulted in the 1 seed with most of the pieces around him being the same, and his absence/decline takes out out of the top 5 in the two years bookending that 1-seed.

Drury was what he was before he got here, we just wanted him to play like a 1B center when he was really a 2/3 center. I also think Drury deserves a heck of a lot of credit for Callahan taking "the step".

Redden and Gomez were pretty terrible.

no Malakhov on that list especially when Sather let Mathieu Schneider walk to sign this overrated bum :shakehead:help:

Oh please, the only signing that's even remotely debatable as just as bad is Redden.

Richards decline is exponentially worse then Gomez and Drury. You all said it yourself a page back, his decline is otherworldly terrible. The guy can barely ****ing skate, let alone complete a tape to tape pass.

I can really see Sather buying him out and adding Weiss. With Weiss' relationship to Graves, and "spending money" with Richards off the books, I definitely think it's a likely scenario. I wouldn't be opposed to having Stepan, Brassard, Weiss as a 1, 2, 3 punch down the middle but just like every other Sather free agent signing I can only cringe what Weiss' price will be. Plus, all 3 of the guys mentioned above are small, Rangers need size in the top 6, well first they need to figure out their top 6 then address the size issue

For the record I wanted all of them...The declines of Gomez,Redden and Richards so early on with us is just amazing...I also want Clowe so maybe thats a bad signing in the waiting too?? Thank God I dont get paid to make these decisions.

I actually thought Richards would be solid for most of the 8 years we gave him because he always relied more on his smarts and ability to see the ice well, and not his physical abilities. But man, he has really declined.

Aside from redden, so did I.

This teams luck is just that bad.

The free agent market for centers is very mediocre, and some will probably get overpaid. Ribeiro, Roy, Weiss are probably the best of the bunch, and they are all 30+ and I wouldn't classify any of them as elite.

Buying out Richards only to sign one of the above centers to a long-term deal doesn't really sound like a good idea. Sather better use his cap space wisely or not at all.

I think Richards will end up getting a pass on that list a few years down the road because of the incoming amnesty. Had he been anchored with us, I'd imagine we be singing a different tune.

Totally agree with you on Drury. He was overpaid, but he did what he did and for all the crap he gets for "ruined my weekend", I thought he was a good Captain who set good examples.

There is going to be some pretty good pieces out there who are cut because of salary issues. The fact is that right now, Richards is easily bringing our 4th line down right now. Guy just looks completely lost; its mind blowing.

He would get 2/3rds of money owed to him which would be somewhere in the ballpark of $22 million IIRC.

Unless this is strictly post lockout, you're missing Bobby Holik at $9 mil per for 5 years. Paying a 50 point guy Forsberg type money was pretty insane.

The blind backhand through the middle that teed up that Boston clapper off the crossbar was infuriating. He is becoming more of a liability with each game.

That play more than any other stuck out for me. That's **** that youth hockey coaches get out of the systems of their 7 and 8 year olds. The walls are there for a reason. Even if you're turning the puck over going up the boards--it's going to take the other team a second or two to make a play with it which will at least give your goalie some time to adjust. Truthfully I was thinking Richards would be riding the pine the rest of the night after that--nope--back out there for his next shift.

Prior to the start of the PO's, I truly believed that teh Rangers would give him this PO's, next season and next PO's an opportunity to turn things around.

After watching him 8 games in, I can't fathom the team not making a move on this guy this summer.

He's in obvious decline and retaining him beyond this season is a mistake in the making. Let him go somewhere else and re-discover his game.

We need to shed that 6.66 cap hit.

Can anybody confirm how the amnesty buyout works? By that I mean, is there a timeline that it has to happen by? Does it have to happen next year or can it be "banked' and used, lets say 3 years down the line.

The reason I ask, do you use the buyout next year on BR......or do you give him one more season and see what happens to his game? If we use it next year on BR, what elite 1st line centers ( if not elite, at least a quality 1st line center ) is there to get?

Clowe is more than likely not returning, so what top line winger do we replcae him with? If BR is bought out and Clowe is gone.......there are two large holes to fill, with not much out there come July 1.... correct?
