Maybe with with the right linemates.

I think of Stepan as more of a 25-30 goal 40-50 assist player who excels in both ends on the ice. Similar to Richards in that much of his offensive game comes from being in the right place and having excellent vision, but he's definitely a more well-rounded player.

He also seems to do a better job around the net than Richards. He'll score more garbage goals.

Isn't Brassard, technically, our top line center at the moment?

Steve Austin = the bionic man (worth 6 million dollars)
Brad Richards = the ironic man (costs Dolan 12 million dollars)

Call Lee Majors for 4th line center duty and put Brad in the press box to find the new love in his life... Or maybe he can be a guest chef at Drurys pizza parlor? :naughty:

Maybe we can try him on the 5th line. See if he can find his game there.

The Rangers should keep Richards:sarcasm:

Look at all of these people defending this guy. He was average last season. His foot speed is gone. He can't keep up with the pace of the game anymore. Torts isn't stupid. Even he sees it.

Not Game 1 of this post season. Game 1 of next season. My bad.

Damn you to Hades for putting this in after I posted. I didn't mean I wanted Richards gone NOW. That would be terribly shortsighted.

Tongue in cheek, but after his performance last night, I wouldn't completely object to amnestying him now. :D

I'd rather see Newbury in the lineup. He'd be perfect for this series. This coach needs to sit Richards because he's a liability out there. There's no big play left in this guy...

I think it's a toss-up.

I think we more have a 1A and 1B line setup than anything.

Personally, I think its more of a 2A/2B until further notice. Im more convinced Stepan can maybe reach #1C status as soon as next season, but Im not sold yet. And Im definitely not sold that we have anywhere near the elite talent down the middle that true contenders for the cup have.

I don't think he could skate away from a zombie in the Walking Dead.

I don't hate the guy. I have never seen a decline like this ever.

He went from a good 1st line center to being borderline AHL in a season.

I think Beaver was going for the world record for "fastest decline" this past offseason.

Mission accomplished.

Get him away from the team.

I've never seen a guy kill an attack like this guy does. Not only are his legs gone, but I think his vision has disappeared. That Hail Mary pass to the nobody last night was god-awful.

Yep, and he is weak along the boards which means he loses practically every battle he is involved in. Unbelievable.

I actually screamed so loud at the bar when that happened it made the girl I was with jump. haha

For a bit I was on the fence regarding a buyout this offseason. I'm no longer on the fence; it's become imperative that we buy him out. I don't forsesee some miraculous reimurgance of his skills, but only further decline.

It's a shame...but Richie is donzo.

Dallas made Richards a fair offer. $7M per for 3-4 years. Joe Thornton dollars. They were concerned about his footspeed in the long-term. Richards fell off the map.

I have seen declines with NFL running backs like this but never in hockey. I mean a frontline player usually follows a discernible decline over a couple of seasons. If this is his current trajectory, next season he will be a solid center in a Mens C- league.

I was worried that Torts' love for brad would prevent the team from making the right move and buying him out, but ever since he has been dropped to the 4th line I think even Tort's is done with him.

Watching brad try and backcheck on a play is painful, he is always dragging his ass behind the play.

Looks like Broadway Brad will be Sather's most expensive mistake yet.

I wonder if hes on Papa Dolan's calendar this summer to go begging for another big buyout check.

And yet, without the amnesty clause we'd have been stuck with him for another 6 years.:cry:

He's gone this summer at this rate.
