I was going over some stats recently and noticed that Brad Marchand has put up a whopping:

298 points in his last 242 games (last 4 seasons including this season)

This comes out to a 101 point pace over 82 games - 40 goals and 61 assists

I find it interesting that after over his first 454 games in the NHL he stayed at a relatively constant pace of 52 points/82 games, yet since then he has nearly doubled his production while remaining a pest of a player and providing fantastic on ice advanced stats %.

Could it be said that he is a top 10 forward in the NHL over the past 4 seasons?

I don't see how there could be an argument against that.

Marchand, Crosby, McDavid, and Kucherov are the only players to score 77+ points each of the past 3 seasons. Marchand actually scored 85, 85, 100 and is currently on pace to easily hit that mark again (Kucherov isn't). In terms of cumulative scoring, he's actually 3rd in that group -- ahead of Crosby -- and in the smallest number of games, and with the smallest number of assists, and with the second-fewest PPG (McDavid) which is mostly offset by scoring way more SHG than anyone else.

And it's not like Marchand doesn't bring anything else to the table beyond scoring.

Good linemates or not, he's very easily a top-10 forward over that time period.

Hard not to call that Bruins top line one of the best in the NHL. Certainly an argument all 3 have been top 10 players last year and this year. Now fans of teams who don't get bent over by them in the playoffs is seeing it too.

Since 2016:

Total Points: 3rd behind McDavid and Kucherov
Shorthanded points: 1st
Game Winning goals: 1st
Goals: 5th
+/-: 1st at +71

Playoffs:
Total points: T-3rd

In addition to the above statistical evidence, Marchand is widely seen to be one of the best defensive wingers in the league (with Stone) and a dominant penalty killer, so it's not like he's just a one dimensional player ignoring the defensive side of the puck, so he's closer to top 5 than top 10.

The guy went from a career high of 61 to 85 within a year, that coincides with the same year Pastrnak broke out. Im not saying Pastrnak carries him, but its obvious that the chemistry between that line is the big reason for his breakout.

I would never say that Pasta is not a huge part of that, their chemistry is amazing. The general feeling among Bruins fans, however, is that when Cassidy became coach, he took the reins off the Marchand line, and used them in more offensive situations. Cassidy and Pasta are 2 big factors IMO.

Yeah I guess I never thought about the coaching situation. That seems like a big deal if Julian was holding him back. Now that I looked it up, His OZs% was around 50% up until 2016, the last 3 years hes been at 54-64%.

Over the past 4 seasons he’s probably a top 5 player (I haven’t stat checked but I’m assuming there isn’t many on a 100 point pace over the past 4 seasons). He was a very average top 6 forward before these years.
