I'm fine with it.

He owns this.

Agreed. As many of you have said, the fact that punishment isn't equable around the league sucks. But Brad Marchand sets himself up as the standard bearer of what NOT to do. If he was getting suspended for questionable boarding calls or something that would be different. But these kinds of temper tantrums are indefensible and low hanging fruit for DoPS. He is fully in control of the things he gets suspended for. Dude needs to man up and play the game the right way if he wants to be a top forward in the league going forward.

I'd be OK with this if Galchenyuk got 5 games for a slash to Miller's face.

It's the inconsistency that kills me. Crosby does stupid **** all the time but never gets suspended or fined for it.

At least there aren't any missed playoff games.

Different standards for "star" players is exactly what people hate in any sport. How am I supposed to take the league seriously?

This entire fiasco is a **** show. Marchand shouldn't have done it, but he also shouldn't have gotten suspended based on other players in the league not being suspended for the same offense. Either way, it's over and he'll have to live with it and hopefully learn from it.

According to the league, he got suspended because of his prior history - that's on Brad.

This wasn't about 1 nut shot, it's about being a regular contributor to the DoPS mailing list.

Is there any other kind?

Prust does the exact same thing to Marchand = $2500 fine

Crosby swings his stick at a opposing players hand hard enough to severe part of his finger and put that player out for weeks = Zippo

Marchand spears Dotchin, Dotchin sells it like a pro soccer player and doesn't even leave the game = 2 game suspension

The only silver lining here is Marchand won't miss any playoff games.

But like it or not, this just increased the chances of meeting the Caps in the 1st round with Boston's best offensive player on the sidelines the next 2 games.

It's not the punishment but the inconsistency that infuriates me.

Ottawa has a million times more issues than one guy being out so I won't use it as an excuse if we lose tonight . Foe me it's the principal that no one even guys with a history have ever been suspended.

Silver lining, Marchand gets 2 games to rest before the Playoffs.

I won't say he got off light, because I think 2 games is appropriate for this, but he got off light, considering who he is and how he's been treated in the past in regard to supplemental discipline.

Sounds vaguely familiar!

The whole "reputation" punishment is B.S. but we've all known about it for years, and so has he.

He's gonna keep getting suspended every year. It'll get to the point where a sneeze is worth 2 game, just because of his name.

I love it, JR tweeted Marchand should get two games minimum. There is an elitist culture in the NHL that just look the other way for certain players. This is what turns me away from hockey, I can't stand this favoritism.

What consequences? Marchand has been suspended for both slew footing and clipping, yet Subban and Crosby keep slewing left and right with no consequences, and Emelin and Ballard get to redefine a Marchand "clipping" as a good old fashioned "hip check". The DoPS seems quite comfortable in its hypocrisy.

Most predictable response ever. Thanks, though.

What I am saying is it does put a different pressure on the league for the future. You bring up past incidents. What I am saying is the suspension to Marchand NOW will be brought by absolutely EVERYONE when this happens with another player in the FUTURE. Now that something has happened, and a suspension has actually been given to someone, the league is under a different kind of pressure.

Oh, and as bad as some of Ballard's hip checks are, comparing them to what Marchand did to say Sedin or Salo (as much as I truly did enjoy both of those) shows a pretty strong bias. I have a hard time listening to people with intense biases criticize others for intense biases, but that's just me.

Whether or not you agree with it, calm down everyone.

He gets to rest before the PO's. There is just no reason anyone should be overly upset about this.

The one obvious reason to be upset is because this clearly hurts their chances of winning at least 1 of the next 2 and avoiding Washington in Round 1.

Washington will beat the Bruins in a playoff series, and probably easily. If people want to be overly optimistic and cling to this idea that anything can happen, that's fine. The world needs optimists. But the Bruins would be overwhelming underdogs, versus probably being close to even money against Ottawa or Toronto.

So I'd say there is real reason to be pissed about this. Avoiding Washington is an urgent matter for this team, unless we are rolling out the duck boats just to squeak into the playoffs.

Perhaps not. Seems as though they've covered their arses by claiming the suspension has as much to do with his past as it does for the act itself.

Wanna bet the next Crosby nut shot gets 0 fines/suspensions? $100 to the Neely House charity. Deal?

And by the way, until you accept that bet, you can keep your comments about biases to yourself.

I'm fine with the decision as long as the dops suspends other players for this. Although I understand if they don't suspend a repeat offender for it.

I'm disappointed DOPS didn't get a touch more creative

"On Tuesday night, Boston's Brad Marchand received a 5 minute major for unsolicited and inappropriate contact with the testicles of Tampa Bay's Jake Dotchin. Marchand's contact with Dotchin's testicles was not an isolated incident and is just one of several times that Marchand has shown a tendency to desire contact with an opponents "lower body" region."

Not only are they arbitrary and fairly ineffective, they have ZERO sense of humor obviously.
