These were my exact thoughts. He's not even looking at the guy he hit. He just jabbed his blade back. Clearly wanted to give him a whack, but no sign there that he was aiming for the balls.

Which brings me to my next question ... doesn't that guy wear a cup? If so, embellish much?

He may have embellished and I don't think he tried to spear him in the nuts, but I find it hard to believe Marchand didn't know the toe of the blade was gonna be the intial point of contact. To me jabbing a guy like that anywhere in the mid section is pretty bad. I'm sure a few posters here have felt that:(

I would be ok with a game, but it's the inconsistency of past rulings when this has happened is what drives me nuts...err...crazy

as his thread gets dominated with shame and critism... need to tip my hat to a guy who absolutely blew me away how much he elevated his game since christmas

honestly i think 1 key to his success is how much hate he inspires. marchand capitalizes on opportunities as well as anyone ive ever seen. as opponents hate him and try to get satisfaction it pulls them out of position

its a tough way to earn a living im sure. and then he clearly plays on emotion too. i think as bruin fans we just have to accept 1 or 2 of these types of things every year.

luckily it looks like we might be treated to a 40 goal scorer to go along with it the next couple seasons too

Great post. I agree completely. He plays hard, and will occasionally toe the line. I'm ok with it. That intensity drives him.

team mvp yes... unsung hero no

hes not 7th on and depth chart i know of... let this award go to who its meant to go to... one of the lower level guys that stepped it up

The 7th player award is not meant for "lower level" guys. It's meant for a player that performs above and beyond expectations. That could be a guy on the 1st line or the 4th line.

I don't think Marchand is that guy because I had him scoring 35+ goals this year, so he wouldn't get my vote. My vote wouldn't be influenced at all by how close to the line Marchand plays the game.

My vote would go to Carlo or Pasta (because I didn't expect 35 from him). Moore has been exactly what I expected.

So the next time Marchand is on the ice with Dotchin and Dotchin challenges him, does Brad have to drop the gloves with him?

Absolutely, I would expect him too. Unless this Dotchin guy is a heavy weight goon, I have never heard of him to be honest prior to the spearing. But if he is anything but a heavy weight that would put Marchand at serious risk, I would expect him to go the man and answer like a man.

the wordings been changed... i guess the sponsor was changed. back in the early 1980s if i remembet right tv38 used to give out the award

derek sanderson was the presenter back then if i remember right... he used to explain how there was all star awards and mvp awards for superstar players

bug boston wanted to give an award to a guy that otherwise might go unawarded... a 7th player if you will

the name of the trophy is a bit of a giveaway... theres 6 skaters on your first unit... your stars...

then this award goes to the 7th best player... the unsung guy

i know you will argue the award got coopted by people who no longer give a damn or are just too dumbed down to understand... and you probably are right

i heard an idiot on thr radio talking about the norris race. hr said it looked like burns was running away with it... but then he checked the scoring and saw karlsson was right there and hedberg was close too

and this is a comment about best dman? this numbnut just picks the top 3 scorers???

so yeah i get your argument bug that in no way makes it right. just because no one else gives a damn anymore doesnt make it right

this trophy is called 7th player for a reason

i do agree pasta and carlo are the best options for the award. it might be hoped pasta would breakout this year but he was not a sure thing to be a top 6 forward going into this season... i doubt anyone had carlo playing the year with us let alonr averaging 20 effective mins

pasta will never qualify for this award again... carlo probably will. id vote pasta cause this was his breakout year from the shadows to legit star

Here's the thing with the spearing, I don't think it's a "screw up". When you have that many incidents that go without suspensions, it's a trend.

If the NHL wants to change that trend starting with BM 63, that's fine, but stay consistent.

I don't know if it's something... Okay I do know. I wouldn't call for a suspension for a stick to the nuts.

I just really hate that move. And I don't think there's a place for it in the game. If they decide to start handing out suspensions to it, I'm not gonna be losing any sleep. I'd much rather that than the BS they gave to Pastrnak earlier in the year.

And I agree entirely with your last point.

well, many here, myself included, would be calling out any opponent if they had done this to a Bruin and was unwilling to answer the bell. If your going to play on and over the edge, need to answer the call for yourself.

I assume this one falls under the NHL "code"
