Former Bruins Brad Marchand traded to Florida, Brandon Carlo to Toronto

Carlo will fit right in with Toronto's lack of D squad toughness. Can't wait for the TOR media to rip on him when he whiffs on a PK clear or falls down when tied up in a corner. I've never been a Carlo fan post multi concussion, but he regressed this year. Use that money for a the UFA season and build a better D corp.

Unacceptable by Sweeney.

This guy deserved better. He wasn't asking for 8 million. Damn
We got 15 years out of the guy. There's nothing wrong with not giving him a big 3 year deal. Not giving Marchand a sweetheart retirement deal is a good move. He's a guy that will play until they rip his skates off retiring here was unlikely. See Chara who was the same.

Here's the thing, with the cap going up I doubt you're finding a more effective middle 6 winger for what he was probably asking for AAV wise.

I doubt he was asking for a big deal here, probably something similar to the Bergeron low cap hit w bonuses style, or even something like 3x4.5. maybe I'm off base here, but it just doesn't seem like his style after taking below market for the prime of his career

I just don't see why this was the line in the sand for Sweeney, when he had no issue overpay for aging/bad players like Backes, Foligno, and Beleskey.

Instead you kick your captain with 1200+ games played for your franchise to the curb instead of meeting in the middle.

It's truly bizarre.

Zero issue with Sunshine Superman.

They beat your Boston Bruins up one side and down the other. Accept it.

One thing is clear, as noted by NEHJ editor Evan Maranofsky yesterday: the Panthers are not in Boston's head. They are not our supposed greatest rival.

No one is.

The team Don Sweeney constructed to counteract Florida this past offseason, obviously, is gone.

("Let the healing begin," as the old Jergen's hand lotion ad had it.

(And if I could find that f" cking commercial, I would post it too.)

Niles to Frasier, "But let's stick to obtainable goals."

THANK YOU BRAD, BRANDO & CHARLIE.

GOOD LUCK AND GODSPEED,

✌️❤️
I’ll say this (about that): (let me preempt anyone saying “none of them owes us anything”). Notwithstanding, the way I choose to look at it)(Ala George Costanza)— if Brad loves us as much as we loves him, he’ll come back this summer for a swan song final year. If that happens, Donny will have crafted a nice position for himself by letting Brad have a legit shot at one more Cup rather than waste himself here this year. If he wins a Cup, Sweeney will get the Kudos. If Marchand comes back, Sweeney will get the kudos. If the draft pick (likely a first) pans out well, Sweeney will get the kudos. Harvard level strategy right there.

His current injury could be career altering or ending. It's the perfect time for both sides to move on.

So when we hear this, do Pasta and McEvoy say ‘I guess they will do that to me’

I think this stinks. But not suprised

So do people still want Sweeney to handle the retool or rebuild or whatever they want to call it? Clean house. But that’s me saying it knowing it won’t happen
No because they signed fair market deals. Marchand signed his deal and then turned into a hall of famer. He’s been severely underpaid for the last 6 years. I don’t begrudge him if he truly wanted more than what was offered.

I think the truth of what went sideways is somewhere in the middle of what is being reported. You’ve got local media saying one thing and Friedman and Kaplan saying another.

I still believe he will be back in July. Go chase the cup and then come back and finish it out in Boston.

We will see what Marchy says when he’s ready to speak.

It’s a business.

No interest in paying Marchand for a multi year deal at this point in his career.

I’ve got a lot of criticism for this management group over the years but I praise them for holding firm on this move.

I’m ready to turn the page to something new and build towards the future. Never felt right to me personally seeing him wear the C and I’m glad his tenure as captain is over.

Was with you til the end, I thought he was a fine captain.

Nope, I agree with OP. This team hasn't played hard at any point this year. I always thought he was a questionable choice as captain and he proved me right as far as I'm concerned. You can hem and haw about talent, but effort doesn't lie and this team hasn't put in effort all year and that lies on the captain
