Brad Marchand - HHOF?

I personally am a small, exclusive HOF guy but that ship has long sailed. He should be in as he’s one of the marquee players of the era (especially if he gets 1000) on one of the best teams. For the people saying no hardware, the HHOF would be very small if only players who won trophies got in

I guess a lot of what was said about Anderson was happened before internet was really a thing, so it lived in conjecture-land.

I think one thing that came to light in the age of internet were having a few illegitimate kids, and made the women fight tooth and nail for child support. And even after the court ordered Child support was mandated, he nearly faced jailtime for not paying it, while hiding a lot of his earnings into homes in the Carribean.

Sad… thanks for sharing

I think that if it’s a toss up in the minds of those who actually vote, it may come down to his on ice antics that might go against him. Being suspended eight times for a total of 28 games and fined five times should weigh into their vote. As for me, it would depend on how the next few years go and what level his play is. If he retired today, it would be a no for me.
We can only hope. The very idea of rewarding this man (a term I use very loosely....RAT would be far more accurate) or giving him any kind of accolades makes me feel dirty.

He has a really good chance. Was one of the best in the league at his position for several seasons, plays for a marquee franchise and like retires with 400+ G and at least 1000 points.

That's pretty shameful to say the least but even his resume isn't really all that great as he was a passenger on those Oiler teams and IMO his induction was a mistake strictly on hockey grounds.

If he hits 400 goals + 500 assists+1000 PIM (as he should), I think so: unique player who became top-tier at a much older age

With 128 playoff points in 146 games I think he deserves it. I don't think he's necessarily a first ballot HOFer but should be in

Sure but he broke out before the scoring increases.
I was being facetious, but yeah. I think it's right there in the pack of very good players that are not in the Hall. But his career isn't over yet, so no idea where he ends up. Just that having a 1,000pts isn't a guarantee of anything.

I expect a big year from him next season. Coming off double hip surgery at his age with no summer training, no camp was always going to be a down year. A full summer of training he'll be back to his old self.

I expect another 2 and maybe 3 years of elite play.

The 2 1st team all stars and 2 2nd team all stars do look good on his resume but players that achieved similar feats have failed to make the hhof before. A great player, but he doesn't have any hardware so tough to say. If you ask me, its a 40% chance he does.

Which retired players with at least two 1st team and two 2nd team all-stars aren't in the hall of fame?

Players with 1,000+ points not in the Hall:

Bernie Nicholls
Dave Taylor
Pierre Turgeon
Rod Brind'Amour
Jeremy Roenick
Theoren Fleury
Ray Whitney
Keith Tkachuk
Pat Verbeek
Doug Weight
Bobby Smith
Alexander Mogilny
Alexei Kovalev
Patrick Elias
Brian Bellows
Dale Hunter
Steve Larmer
Brian Prop
Vincent Damphousse

I left active players and recently retired players off the list.

These 19 players collectively have 1x 1st team (Elias) and 9x 2nd team all-stars. Only two of the players have more than one post season all-star, with Tkachuk and Mogilny having 2x 2nd team each.

Marchand has 4x post season all-stars with 2x 1st team and 2x 2nd team--He's a HHoF lock.

Legit question for Bruins fans:

How many years was Marchand the best player on the Bruins? I feel between Chara, Bergeron, Thomas, and Pastrnak there aren't many seasons where Marchand was the best player on his own team, but i'm not an expert on the B's.

Which retired players with at least two 1st team and two 2nd team all-stars aren't in the hall of fame?
John Leclair has 2 1st teams and 3 2nd teams. Also, Markus Naslund has 3 1st team all stars, Kevin Stevens has 1 1st team and 2 2nd teams

He has a HOF-worthy resume, but his "on-ice antics" shouldn't lead to the Hall. 50 years from now people will be looking at this crazy rat on the ice thinking "is this guy in the HOF? Really?".

And none of them were the top PK'er in the league or an elite 2 way forward like Marchand has been.
Fair enough. All I'm saying is the 1st team all star credentials on their own aren't necessarily enough. He has other dimensions to his game that can tip the scale. I'm just not entirely certain about whether he makes it or not.

If Marchand is this amazing HOF worthy 2-way forward, why is he nowhere close to a finalist on any of those awards associated with being an amazing 2-way forward?

I don't really follow the HHOF but does being a rat get used against him? No disrespect to him, as he plays role extremely well.
Pat Verbeek is one of 5 eligible players with 500+ goals who is NOT in the HHoF. Over 1,000 points too but his PPG wasn't great for his era. I'd say Marchand is a better player but you can make a comparison and Verbeek is out.

Verbeek wishes he was ever as good as Marchand.

Marchand:

2x AS-1
2x AS-2
Top 10 points: 3,5,5,6
Top 10 goals: 4,6,6
Top 10 assists: 5,8,10

Verbeek:

none

Sure.

I hate him, but yes, put him in the HoF.

And as for "on ice antics" there's plenty in there with similar, if not worse records for going over the line. Ted Lindsay, Bobby Clarke, Eddie Shore... hell, Sprague Cleghorn would probably be in jail these days and not the HoF. The list goes on and on. Being a jerkass is an intrinsic part of many great players' legacies.

Don’t forget,
He’s only been on the powerplay for like the last 7 years. Claude didn’t put him out there till very late in his tenure, could have a bunch more points.
As soon as he was on the pp he became a ppg player

For better it worse, Brad Marchand is one of the most well known players of his generation.

Breaking down his accomplishments so far:

1x Stanley Cup
1x World Cup Gold
1x 100 point season
5x 80+ point seasons
6x PPG seasons
5x 30 goal seasons
3x Top 10 finishes
2x First Team All Star
2x Second Team All Star
3x Stanley Cup Finals
2x WJC Gold
6x Team leader in points

He holds significant Bruins records:
- Most OT goals in history
- Most shorthanded goals in history
- Most playoff elimination goals in history

He has been a consistently high level playoff performer and, barring injuries, will finish with over 1000 points and 400 goals.

To me, this is a HHOF resume.

you forgot to add he was a key part of the best regular season team of all-time!!! :sarcasm:
