Great question I saw elsewhere from a friend:

What if the Isles turn around and trade his rights to another team? Who do the Sharks get a pick from, what pick, and how does the condition work if he goes to another team?

I'm guessing something like that is accounted for when this trade happens, right? Like perhaps we get the Isles 4th rounder automatically if they turn around and flip Boyle's rights elsewhere? Anyone know? I find the question fascinating.

oooh.... Like to the Ducks. :shakehead :help:

From what I've seen, they get the Islanders' 5th round pick in 2015 that can turn into a 4th rounder if he signs. Regardless of what happens, they get that 5th round pick beyond that.

Sharks would keep the 5th rounder because he still wouldn't have signed with them

Garth Snow loves trading for everyone's rights

Good luck on (possibly) Long Island, Boyle... you'll really need it.

So the Sharks could have (3) 4th rounders in 2015? T.J. Galiardi to the flames? The best part is the 4ths would be early round 4ths haha with the Flames and Islanders being terrible.

That was a freebie. Well done.

I expect Boyle to test the market and sign with a contender though. Unless NYI is offering a multi-year contract.

Dan can give the Islander defense youngsters some strong veteran leadership. And I can see the Islanders offering Dan the 2-3 year contract he's looking for.

(I just don't see him making a big impact playing. Moreso in the lockerroom. He's the kinda guy that really help change a team's culture.)

Boyle's agent says he and Garth Snow have already talked today as have Snow and #SJSharks defenseman. No idea NYI interested until trade

Exchanged texts with Dan Boyle, who declined comment. #SJShark veteran apparently letting his agent do the talking today.

What I'm asking if someone knows the nitty and gritty of trades and trade calls and whether teams account for this possibility and do something in regards to it. I mean, could they have agreed that if the Isles deal Boyle, that such a trade actually triggers the 4th round pick being sent? And does that happen? (I'm assuming, rightfully I believe, that such details don't ever get leaked/disclosed to the media).

Does anyone know that level of detail of NHL trades, especially these trades with conditional picks and whether such things are ever accounted for as part of the deal? Thanks.

Good move by Wilson, and for Dan Boyle's UFA status.

Sharks get another pick in a deep draft, and the Islanders aren't exactly a lock for back end picks.

I'll be surprised if money entices Dan to sign in NYI. Doesn't fit Boyle's personality or how i think he would want to go out. His rights being traded only help his UFA aspirations.

If Snow gets him signed i will be shocked, but it would be great for the Sharks. A free pick for SJ and free advertising for Dan Boyle? :dunno: We will see. . .

I wouldn't sign on Garth Snow's team.

As an Isles and Sharks fan, really hoping this deal gets done. I know he isn't the same player he used to be, but how can you not love Boyle's work ethic? Plays hard every game, Isles could use a player like him. He'll also be the perfect mentor for Ryan Pulock when he comes up. Glad both teams are getting something they want here, if Isles can sign him.

I think the Isles will be surprisingly good next year. Boyle's nothing more than a #5 guy and PP specialist, but he's mobile and he has puck skills and he's a leader and I think he'd fit really well with NYI if he signed there.

There's also no telling how much the concussion was bothering him even in the later half of the year. It's possible the summer will give him a clearer head and he could rebound a bit.

Arthur Staple @StapeNewsday · 48m George Bazos, Dan Boyle's agent, tells me he and Boyle had brief chats with Garth Snow, nothing substantive yet.

Arthur Staple @StapeNewsday · 47m
Bazos: "Dan wants to talk to some people he knows about #Isles situation... He's made it clear to me he's open to any and all options."

Arthur Staple @StapeNewsday · 46m
#Isles GM Garth Snow on Boyle trade: "We don't know what the future holds with him but we wanted the exclusive window to try and sign him."

Arthur Staple @StapeNewsday · 44m
Snow said trade not a sign of concern over Visnovsky. "If we sign Boyle, they'll both be on the No. 1 PP. We think that's a plus." #Isles

Isles fan here, and I hope we can sign him. We lack quality veteran defensemen and now that Vis is a giant questionmark and may not be back Boyle's value is more towards mentoring kids on the team and at least being competent. On an experienced defense he is a third pair at this point, but for us his experience is worth more. On the PP he still has it though, and our PP would benefit from not resorting to 4 forwards every time. I'd expect a 2 year deal, and I am allowing for injuries which he gets his share of these days.

Will he sign though? I don't know how he feels about our club.

Boyle seems more concerned about winning than he does with getting a final payday. That said if the Islanders are willing to give him a 3 year contract he will probably stay just because he believes he has a lot left in the tank.

He wants to win, and hates to lose... So i think it will be more about the direction Garth sells than the money he offers. Might have to make a move before July 1st to show Boyle the club is serious about winning.

I don't think Boyle is about winning as much as you guys think. In my opinion, he'll sign anywhere that gives him the years and ice time. He wants to play first, win second, make money third.

The Isles can't "deal" Boyle, they can only deal his negotiating rights. At least if I am reading the original post correctly. Boyle is still Sharks property as a player, but they have dealt the right to negotiate his next contract to the Isles.

I would guess in theory that the Isle could turn around and deal those rights to someone else. Whether DW has built in a clause that if they do so it counts as a "signing" I have no idea.
