Why wouldn’t Byram sign in Chicago? It’s his childhood’s favorite team, and they have role open where he can play the minutes he wants. Money will come down to it, but Chicago can provide a deal that should be enticing for him. Even if he gets a $3 million aav raise.
Kevin Musto is a propagandist. Dont believe the lies.

Son of Shawn and Stacey … Has one sister, Jamie … Favourite NHL team growing up: Dallas Stars … Favourite player: Auston Matthews … His father, Shawn, played 15 seasons of pro hockey from 1988-2003, including five NHL games with the New York Islanders and Chicago

Congrats for the great trade!
Byram for 10+ mil in your situation wouldn't have made any sense. To get 4th out of that is very nice

We made the best I could imagine out of a kind of crap situation. Byram wants money and status so badly we just couldn’t give to him. Finally unlock the team’s superpower by just giving in and playing all four left shot D in the top 4 and one of them is like…send me to a rebuilding team so I can play on the top pair and get PP time.

Kind of annoying but the return sure helps ease that feeling.

Now…what they do with it…could just change that right back so we’ll know by Friday night. If they trade it for something I won’t be happy with…well…I won’t be happy!

4th, 20th and Mrtka has to get you Thomas.. that's 3 first round picks.

I'd be fine with that.

Chain I think also mentioned perhaps we draft a center. And then Ostlund is now available for a Thomas/Roberston.

I was a fan of Byram, still am. But JFC, I wouldn't have passed up 4th OA alone.

With Tuch out potentially. Greenway. Byram. I'd like to see a big swing for Thomas or Robertson would be awesome. They are both the same age. About to be 27. I assume RObertson would cost less since he needs a fresh bigger contract? But, it would be his one big payday. Thomas would be a UFA around 31 years old.

Could we draft and keep this stud in the pipeline 4th OA. Trade 20th, Mrtka, 45 + for Thomas/Robertson?

I hope they trade the pick, otherwise I spent the wrong year to pay no attention to draft prospects
I have 2014 vibes from this draft. The few prospects I follow are surprisingly low in the draft which should mean the others are pretty great.

Well i'm happy as Larry with this. When I saw it I assumed it was a move up from 20. The fact that we kept 20, and now have two first rounders is gold. If you can flip both for a bonafide player in/entering their prime then do it.
Or picking 4 isn't soooo bad, even though I thought we were moving away from that.

Replacement for Matthew Savoie?

He is much better at his age and every aspect of the game. He already played against men and was very good at the WC for Sweden.
He could probably step in right away next season and be better than Savoie is now.

I think what most amazing about this deal is how much less sense it made as it was revealed.

Buffalo trades Byram to Chicago - makes sense. He wants a bigger role and we couldn’t let him play out his deal. I wonder what the return will be.

Buffalo gets 4th overall - huh? That seems unlikely. I wonder what else we added.

Chicago also gets Greenway - ….am I being punked? I thought they’d get a fourth or fifth for him but this is…

Chicago also gives up a 2nd - ok now I know there’s more to this. This is the most lopsided thing I’ve ever…

Buffalo also receives a 6’8 D - I give up.
I know, I kept waiting for the other shoe to drop. Didn't know that Byram was a Hawks fan growing up, could explain why he doesn't mind going to them even if they're still in a rebuild.

Interesting. So your gut tells you they are drafting a forward at 4 then (if they keep the pick)? Just looking at Wheelers mock draft he projected McKenna, Stenberg, Malhotra at 1,2,3. He speculated this pick could be in play for Buffalo, but that Reid or Carels would be his best guess for the pick if we kept it. He also speculated that Mrtka could still be the odd man out in Buffalo in this scenario which to me makes sense seeing as how he was already almost moved.
The draft order is very fluid after the first 2. Malholtra is probably going 3rd because Vancouver just hired his dad as their coach. D take awhile to develop and it's not what Buffalo would need. I'm hoping the scouts and Jarmo recognize that Bjorck is another Benson in the making but at the center position.

One of the all time best scenes. I just watched it again last week.

I want to keep #4 and trade #20. This is the first top 5 pick traded since the cap for a reason. Let's not make it the second.
And the draft is being held in Buffalo, would make it even more special.

They likely had to outbid other teams. But they gave up a lot

We truly will see what Byram has now in the windy city.

ps Any chatter on around if Byram is going to extend right away there ? Just curious, with this type of return, one would think so.
i doubt they would've offered so much if they weren't allowed to talk to the player/agent to see if he would extend before finalizing the trade. Won't have to wait long to find out, July 1st is just around the corner.
