Midnight EDT on a Tuesday night. Okay, Jarmo, you have our attention.

OK, I think I wrote that I wasn't sure about Jarmo's trade ability. Holy hand-grenade I think this puts any doubt to rest.

4OA, 20OA, roster player, 1A prospect for Thomas?

There is also 4 defensemen at the top of the draft. Wowza.

This trade makes me forget they broke up that amazing top 4.
At 4, it would be one of Stenberg, Malhottra or 1 of what a team would deem the top 2 Dmen. That's basically what Pick #4 is going to be.

From a Buffalo perspective, does this trade indicate that they feel one of Strbak, McCarthy or Mrtka will be NHL ready or is it a precursor to another move?

With the fourth overall pick, does that player go directly to the NHL as Schaefer did last year? Listening to a discussion last week the consensus was that only McKenna and one of the defensemen (forget which one) can make that jump this draft.

In terms of Rochester would RFA Zac Jones be re-signed and given another NHL shot after a 62 point season or is Komarov a thought?

I doubt they think any of those guys is near-term ready.

He might, depends on who it is. I suspect they don't need the guy to make the jump especially if it's a forward. Buffalo still has too many right now as it is.

Smits is supposed to be physically close.

I would think they qualify Jones based on their year-end pressers. Komarov may be the closer of their current RHD prospects but his feet are still pretty slow. He's kind of like the Knights' McNabb -- some physical play, some surprisingly good offensive play, but someone else has to do the transitioning.

Baring another trade or two - and I would bet Jarmo isn't done - I think our top 7 next year right now would be Dahlin, Samuelsson, Power, Timmins, Crevier, Metsa, and possibly Johnson. Komarov has a shot, and Mrtka would be a big surprise. But I have to think there is another move.

Byram wants to be a number one and he's a UFA in a year. Jarmo wanted to resign him but if he's not signing an extension then this move made an insane amount of sense with that return.

If jarmo got that return from Chicago and Byram DOESN'T extend? KD better find himself a bunker to hole up in.

The main board does not disappoint.

A general wtf? vibe after the #4 return was announced, with the wailing and gnashing of teeth becoming more unhinged as each layer of the onion is revealed (metaphor alert).

You know, I was almost feeling sorry for Chicago fans, but after all we've been through, f*** 'em. And not to pick on the Hawks - f*** 'em all.

Go Sabres!

It is amazing how poorly some franchises are managed.

He won’t sign there. Edmonton will implode. These things are known.

Anywho, 4th OA for a guy we weren’t resigning in a year is fantastic. 2nd rounder (and shedding G’s salary) is also fantastic. Now, what do they do with that 4th? They could do a Helly of a lot of things..
