Confirmed with Link: Bowen Byram and Jordan Greenway to Chicago for 4th Overall, 45th Overall, Louis Crevier

Jarmo Kekäläinen has made his first monster move as GM of the Buffalo Sabres, and he's done something no GM has done in 18 years. Acquire a top-five draft pick from another team. The Sabres send Bo Byram to the Chicago Blackhawks, along with Jordan Greenway and his $4M salary, for the 4th overall pick, the 45th pick, and giant defenseman Louis Crevier. A trade that is being celebrated as "larceny" committed by the Sabres by those that cover the league.

With the 4th pick now in his pocket, should Jarmo make the pick? Or trade it? It will likely depend if Matthew Knies can be had from Toronto or if Swedish phenom Ivar Stenberg falls to the Sabres at four.

Plus, why Greenway's contact being moved off the books is so important. And more about the Sabres new defenseman in Louis Crevier.

OK, I think I wrote that I wasn't sure about Jarmo's trade ability. Holy hand-grenade I think this puts any doubt to rest.

4OA, 20OA, roster player, 1A prospect for Thomas?

There is also 4 defensemen at the top of the draft. Wowza.

This trade makes me forget they broke up that amazing top 4.

I haven’t been paying attention to any of the prospects/draft this year until tonight, can’t believe Jarmo pulled this trade off. Based on what I’ve read on these boards the past few hours, I’m all in on trading 4OA in a package for Thomas or taking Bjorck.

I do not want to trade 4OA for a goalie under any circumstances and I’m hoping Jarmo feels the same.

I am all for getting Helly.. but not for 4th or Helenius

A few of you posted about needing to trade for a Byram replacement. Am I being wildly optimistic thinking Crevier steps right into the lineup alongside Power?

It might be a bit optimistic, yeah. Maybe they have some chemistry - I'm curious if Ruff continues to lean toward Power as more of his breakout guy. I'd be interested to know what Crevier's entry defense numbers look like. I don't pay for those sort of expensive microstats.

I'm ecstatic.

Byram for #4 and #45 alone would have been a good deal. Dumping Greenway's contract without any sweetener attached and grabbing Byram's possible replacement makes it outstanding.

He gets an A+ for this move, but I'm pretty sure Jarmo isn't done. What happens with the 4OA in particular has me intrigued.

Is Crevier anything more than an AHL player? For how bad Hawks fans got fleeced the one thing they aren't sweating is losing Crevier.
He played 78 games with the Blackhawks last year. Averaged 17:08 in ice time and played with the Hawks' best defenseman in Alex Vlasic. I know plus minus is a flawed stat, but he somehow managed to be only a -2 on that Hawks team.

Dude is a legit NHLer. There MIGHT be a top 4 guy there. At minimum, he's shown he belongs in the NHL.

Crevier had 25 points on a terrible blackhawk team. He's excellent defensively. I think the Hawks fans are just shellshocked right now. Crevier as a throw in is an absolute steal. At worst he's our third pairing guy. At best he's Powers partner on the 2nd pair

He played 78 games for Chicago last year. Led the team in goals by a defenseman (7) and added 18 assists. He was only -2 playing for the Hawks last season, which is not a great stat but still...

I'm confident in saying he's an NHL player now and not an AHL one.

And probably makes Timmins available as part of a package.
