Not lost in this though is how long will it take that 4oa to get up to speed before Bedard is at free agency? They are under a competitive time crunch and can’t keep just stock piling pics. Connor is gonna go full Eichel on them.[Without the office shenanigans and showing up a training camp injured.)

I do get it from Chicago’s POV. Byram was a #4 overall pick himself. They were probably going to draft a defenseman at #4 anyway, but that D man would be years away from being ready to be their top pair guy, and there’s no guarantee he ends up being as good as Byram is now. Sure, thr guy at #4 could also end up eventually being better.

But instead of waiting and taking that gamble they cashed the pick in for a guy who will be their #1D right away and is still young enough to be around and in his prime for many years to come.
They need to get better now, not years from now.

I’m sure glad they viewed Byram as a #1 D though! 😂

They desperately need to get Connor help and Im not sure this is the help. I was looking at knies for the 4th for chicago. Wonder if theyd entertain 4oa as a base for a Bedard trade :D

love the trade in a vacuum

Sabres roster continues to get worse but Ill be honest Byram was my least favorite of the top 4

circling back to Parayko or a similar move

It reminds me of when Paul Coffey went to Pittsburgh back in 87. Mario needed somebody to get the f*** up the ice to him and needed help on his wings. Granted, I think Bo is more of a Timu Paul but I understand it. I could see them as a possible landing place for nuke as well.

im a believer that Bo is great at his job when he doesnt have to do it against the hardest competition on the ice

so ya teemu paul coffey is probably right what Id say

Im just not sure how you end up paying premium coffey prices for tim hortons

That does lend credence to idea that they really wanted Stenberg, they saw the Eklund trade and read that as SJ locked in on Stenberg, then they opted to move 4OV for immediate help.

I just wonder what other fish they had on the line for 4OV...

They likely had to outbid other teams. But they gave up a lot

We truly will see what Byram has now in the windy city.

ps Any chatter on around if Byram is going to extend right away there ? Just curious, with this type of return, one would think so.

Buccigross said SJ was offering 9+27+ a prospect.

You guys have to be pumped, on the one hand, and nervously waiting for another shoe to drop(Trochek?), on the other. This is where veteran, trade protected player's reluctance to go to BUF works for you for a change.

They have to replace Byrum now, if he will sign here I would watch Carlson 7/1

I would of been pretty tempted by Musty, but 4OA is very very temping in the end.

AFAIK there’ve been no whispers about who the prospect was, but it would have to be someone pretty f***ing good to make up for the difference between 4 and 9. Since Bo is now a Blackhawk, not a Shark, I think it’s safe to assume whatever player SJ was adding wasn’t that.

Plus the CHI package gets us another big, mobile young RHD that can at least log bottom pairing minutes.

Carlson is an awful idea. He doesn't play defense. You've got your #1D in Dahlin, and Power has some offense in him. Just get a solid defender or two, hopefully one who plays on the right, then pick a forward with the #4. You think about taking Carels, even though he is a LHD.

You don't have a full grasp of what made the Sabres playoff run successful. Carlson would be a good replacement for Byram. How much defense did Byram play ?, did you look at his data ? Power concentrated more on D last season and we all hope there is more offense upside coming, but TBD.
