The same thing happened with Begin and Darche in the last few years... A few very vocal media members get behind a well liked local guy on the last leg of his career and make it sound like not bringing them back would be an insult to them AND the fans. Then when the team makes the smart hockey move and let them walk those same media guy make raise a minor stir about how the organization was classless. And then when the player ends up retiring because no other team wants to spend money on an over the hill fringe NHL it's all forgotten and the player ends up on TV somewhere. Rinse and repeat.

Begin did that ?

Not sure where you get that logic. Kids don't get hindered by playing big minutes in the AHL rather than sitting in the press box at the NHL level.
These guys are not KIDS any more.

Beaulieu & Tinordi are 21 & 22 respectively, and both on the final year of their entry-level contracts. At 24, Pateryn and Nygren would have been considered vets on the 93 squad!

There are three 30-plus D-men on the roster already, plus PK, plus Emelin who's 28. We've got enough experience. Even if injuries hit. Heck, we've got Drewiske in the system as a veteran fill-in option already.

If we'd applied this sort of maddening "hold back the kids" thinking back in the early 90s, that entire defence corps I posted would never have played a game. "Oh no, Schneider's still too young. Oh no, Brisebois is way too green, he needs another year in the minors. Oh no, we can't have Haller & Brisebois both, that's just courting with disaster. And Desjardins still needs mentoring, it's only his fifth year." Yeah, they had Patrick Roy behind them. Well, we've got Carey Price!

We don't need any more D. We've got enough talent in the system, and we need to find out what some of these guys can do. It's time to firmly ask Bouillon to file his retirement papers and for Bergevin to declare that we need no more defenceman on this year's roster.

I'd rather have a guy like Bouillon in the mix in the #7-8 slots than having a rookie sitting.

So you're saying that signing Bouillon is worse than letting Markov and Subban walk? Quite the statement.

What do you do next season when you have then 3 rookie defensemen that have to make the Habs or go on waivers? Throwing these guys in the lineup for playoffs but not wanting them in lineup regular season is what can affect development.

Having one of Beaulieu/Tinordi as #6 everyday sheltered D, the other one of Beaulieu/Tinordi as top AHL D/first call up for left D injuries, and the best one of Drewiske (LD/RD)/Pateryn (RD)/Nygren (RD) at preseason being #7, isn't as big deal as you make it sound. No one is losing out on opportunity and get a chance to improve. #7 D, be it Boullion or one of the 3 that's already under contract, will get playing time as we see every year. D take time to develop, not immediately being a top 4 D in the NHL is more common than going to Subban route. Nygren/Pateryn are 24 years old and have already become top pairing D at SHL/AHL. How is playing ~40 games and gaining experience vs Boullion playing similar if not worse hockey going to be better for their development when they become waiver eligible next season? Were you expecting to throw them starting lineup as everyday D immediately? It's slow process. :dunno:

I like the guy but give him a position in the organization if they like him that much. Bergevin talks about playing the kids and then keeps giving these 1 year deals to players he shouldn't. Let him walk Marc, time to play the kids!

Almost everybody in the league want cheap D with experience in their lower 6 and 7 role. Yet Bouillon and Murray have been UFA for two months now, that all you need to know about signing Bouillon again.

Can someone PLEASE change the thread title!?

I get scared that we actaully signed it whenever I see it.

Maybe "Keep Bou Away From Habs" or something to that effect would be a better choice.

there is a fine line (literally) between a ! and a ?

It's even more subtle. It's a fine curve in a line.

It's too bad that April fools is during the season. Having an international pranks day somewhere during August would make for some hilarious threads around here.

Confirmed with link: Bouillon signs for two years!!

That's gold
I just checked it out myself, it's actually from the Canadiens own website too

I remember watching a video from them too a while ago, where they had the player's wife/ girlfriend draw a mustache they'd want to see for Movember- Bouillon got this

Bouillon on #Habs young leadership core: "I don't think any of those guys are mature enough to be captain, yet. Maybe in a few years."

How I read it: "This team NEEDS me for a few years."

That's sad, honestly...

Bouillon.. From his mouth.. Says he is still in contract talks with Habs but nothing imminent

What is there to talk about?

What's the minimum? $500 000?

If there is contract talks...shouldn't it be about two-way or the minimum...and that's it.

Markov/Emelin-PK Subban
Markov/Emelin-Gilbert
J.Tinordi-Weaver
#7) Bouillon
#8) Drewiskie??
#9) Beaulieu (more AHL for his terrible defense)
