Boston is last in the East

I've been saying for a while that they're not that good.

They didn't impress me in last year's playoffs against TOR (and yes, I'm aware they won the series). I said earlier on this season I could see them missing the playoffs.

The departures of Bergeron and Krejci seem to have really hurt (not shocking).

That series could have easily gone either way. The pass Hampus Lindholm made to Pastrnak was the deciding factor.

They obv sold at the deadline and are tanking but have some good pieces.

Throw 15m aav at marner for any easy fix IMO.

If they cant get marner gets a little more dicey. Depends who they can bring in.

Why would Boston want Marner? They faced him in last years playoffs and Marner was an unthreatening nothing burger. And soft players dont exactly line up with the identity of the city/fanbase.

It’s clear as day to me, Bruce Cassidy and Jim Montgomery were clearly the issues in Boston and were justified firings!
Montgomery was bad this year and IMO might have had the head in St-Louis way before Boston did let him go. IMO, hope he gets kicked out as soon as possible in PO!!!

This is more of a reset than a rebuild . The Jacobs family has historically never totally blown things up . The playoffs mean more to them than anything. ($).

They will do whatever it takes to scratch and claw their way back in next year.
But this is a great tank since the TDL.

It’s a dangerous spot

The prospect pool is one of the worst in the league and they should spend this and the next season/offseason rebuilding the prospect pool with 2 top5/10 picks and lot of other picks and build with them + Pasta/McAVoy/Swayman

If I had to bet they’ll try a 1 offseason retool and try to fight for a playoff spot next season. It’s possible but it really puts a limit on the ceiling of the team moving forward. In fear of being good enough to compete for a playoff spot, not good enough to win 2-3 rounds

Swayman will come back - 1G
Pasta is amazing- 1W
Zacha is a great complimentary player - 2C
The entire D is pretty darn good

This is a retool. They need 2 good forwards. Ideally a 1C to push Zacha to 2C and a top 6 winger.

Sure it can be a retool, it just won’t be enough

They need a legit 1C, they need a high quality W after Pasta. Depth needs to be retooled, defense needs longterm moves as well

It happens to everyone eventually. I mean, they got alot of juice out of their cycle. They probably havent been this poor since 96/97 right before they got joe thornton.

It was time.

long story short a lot of us here follow prospects/drafts etc so rebuilds could b exciting but most average fans don't and wanna watch a competitive team.

I think marner buys you near certain playoff births for the next 7 years that would compliment some solid pieces already in place; the defense, pastranak, and swayman if he can rebound.

from a business perspective/average fan perspective i think it makes sense.

I live in the Boston area and hate the Bruins, so I want to take a chemical shower after defending Edwards here, but it was never his job to be objective. His career was predicated on working on behalf of the Bruins and Bruins fans. He's not supposed to be objective or well-liked outside of New England, speaking to those people wasn't his job.

You actually listen to Edwards calls and he legit gets excited describing important goals by the opposition. Compare him to that announcer for the Avs and he was light years better than that guy.

YouTube has his 1986 NCAA Frozen Four Harvard vs Denver game.

I don't think being bad and picking high has been Buffalos flaw...
It most certainly has. They get their 1OA then start trying right away. Need to suck for a good 3-5 years straight. Go look at their drafting post Eichel. 2-3 picks high could have been the difference between Tkachuk instead of Nylander, Makar instead of Mittlestadt. A lot of if's, but management dropped the ball left and right tehre.

Bruins tanking the right way...just a full-on dive for a top 5 pick after the TDL
even though it's considered a weaker draft, they should be to grab a blue-chip prospect in the top 5

and they still have decent pieces there in Pastrnak Swayman, Lindholm and of course McAvoy

This is exactly how you pull off a tank. Were somewhat in it until the deadline, sold off some pieces for pretty good returns, then free fall for about 20 games and luck into a top pick. They’ll have some cap space to sign a stud, draft one, get Mcavoy/Lindholm back, and hope Elias and Swayman have bounce back years. Lindholm looks like a lost cause, just no effort at all. I think Swayman will rebound nicely.

Surely Neely and Sweeney don't see Sacco as the solution for next season or else God help us!

Swayman of course is getting found out doesn't help and the Lindholm and Zadorov contracts are awful.

I could see MacAvoy and Pasta wanting out if there isn't a quick turn around in two years.
Zadorov has been one of the bright spots of this entire year, what are you talking about?

I haven’t watched any Bruins games this year outside of their games against the Penguins, but for them to be performing worse than Pittsburgh is startling. I guess the mighty have to fall at some point.
