The solution is not letting bad goaltending ruin a season, and you bet the Canucks are within weeks of pure panic if they don’t get high end goaltending out of the gate.
They aren’t going to get high end goaltending from either Lyon or Husso.
When they signed Lankinen, they still thought Demko would be ready pretty quickly here, and who knows…. Maybe he changes his mind, and decides to push it this weekend, and everything works out great. That’s no longer the expectation though.

I’m coming at this from the angle, people better not be blindly relying on Thatcher Demko returning, and better yet, returning to form anytime soon…. There’s a whole lot of Vancouver fans doing just that, or worse yet, just blindly assuming Silovs is gonna take this and run with it. He was an .898 goalie in that 10 game run. That doesn’t get teams in the playoffs.

Even if he does push it, which he’s been very hesitant to do since early August, we have no idea what Demko we’re gonna get. It’s a permanent injury and he’s a goalie who’s always struggled not being 100%.

It doesn’t help that Silovs has a knee swelling issue too.

Who knows, maybe Silovs and Lankinen take this, run with it, and everyone’s happy, but what’s the chances of that actually happening?

I just think they’re gonna need someone who’s shown he can play consistently in long stretches. There’s probably other possibilities as well, but I’m sure Detroit would retain on Husso and Lyon is cheap. They’re both pending UFAs, so there’s no big commitment either.

People just can’t ignore the Demko issue. I’m telling you, he’s a way bigger question mark than people know, and others wanna admit.
You have zero idea what the actual timeline for Demko is. If Canucks’ management actually thought Demko was going to miss significant time this year, they would’ve been more aggressive adding a more proven goaltender. The fact you’re trying to advertise either Husso or Lyon as some significant upgrade over Lankinen or Silovs is quite comical.
Lyon has just gone on two huge runs, in back to back seasons. He got Florida in the playoffs, and almost got Detroit in. If he’s available, they’d be absolutely NEGLIGENT not trying to obtain him right now. There will be teams, including the Oilers, trying to get him if Detroit moves him.. Exactly because of those two runs he’s gone on, coupled with his AAV. Neither Silovs nor Lankinen has ever played goalie in the NHL like that.
Lyon played 44 games last year and put up a .904 SV%. Lankinen played 37 games for Chicago in 20/21 with a .909 SV%. You’re vastly overrating Lyon/underrating Lankinen. There’s absolutely no reason to not expect Lankinen to be able to provide average goaltending in a starting role, just like Lyon did last season.

There’s teams carrying 3 goalies a lot these days. When you have a big question like the Canucks have in net right now, not to mention they just lost their current #3, it’s smart to make sure goaltending doesn’t destroy their entire season.

It’s strange any fans would be against improving their goaltending room. It’s not like these type of goalies are gonna cost a top prospect or high draft picks.

I guarantee you, if they got Lyon this weekend for a 3rd Rounder, you watch how Vancouver fans, and the Vancouver media, talk about what a great move it was.
It’s strange thinking that Alex Lyon or Ville Husso would take the Canucks from being “petrified” about their goaltending to being content, but for some strange reason you’re trying to argue that.

Lyon had over a 930 save percentage during his runs. Are you trying to suggest he hasn’t done this over the last two years? We all know he has.

We’re also talking about goaltenders who may be available, who they’d be able to afford. Nobody’s trading them an elite goaltender. So how do you upgrade the room? You do it by acquiring someone like Lyon. Who’s proven he can put a team on his back two years in a row now.

It’s just strange people wouldn’t want to upgrade the goaltender room, or somehow think guys who’ve never done it, will suddenly step up and do just that.

If they don’t upgrade the room, we’re gonna find out if Silovs or Lankinen can do it. If they don’t though, it’ll cost a very good hockey team, their entire season.

Any goalie can get hot for a 7-9 game stretch like Lyon has in the past. This is your argument why Vancouver should trade for him???

For some strange reason you’re assuming Lankinen/Silovs can’t split the goaltending duties while Demko is out yet Alex Lyon is the answer? That is some bizarre argument. Maybe worry about your own teams goaltending.
