Then be stoked about Anaheim having 2 first round picks this year. And Anaheim isn’t done yet. We may even have 3 by Monday. Why aren’t you excited??? Every Duck fan I know is excited for a change of being down and out. New direction, new change, new players. New franchise possibilities of getting a Ducks jersey of them before taking the team by storm.

I swear man. You are raining on the parade.

sorry you're already planning the parade when we haven't even used these draft picks. im sure bob will give you a call when the draft happens to see who we should get. #youthmovement and all...

I'm really curious what's up with that. He's missed 5 games with "flu like symptoms." Was he secretly concussed? Was Anaheim afraid he would get concussed before the deadline? Something about that seems off. Similarly Cam Fowler's sudden injury.

I'm thinking not concussed but more just a combo of being close to traded and also a bit banged up already.

The cost of dumping Backes was definitely less than the cost to dump Marleau. I think you can sum up this trade as basically a late 1st for Kase and Andersson to take Backes' contract. I'm not sure how this will go for Boston though, I don't think Kase is as good as people say he is. Kreider would have made Boston way scarier than Kase.

I would guesstimate the cost to trade Backes with 25% to be something like a 2nd+3rd or 2nd+4th, with a 6th or 7th round pick going back the other way. Basically less then a 1st, but more then a 2nd.

FML.

As a Vancouver fan I'd rather have traded a package like this including Eriksson for Kase instead of Toffoli.

1st, Madden, Eriksson for Kase.

Offensive zone starts don't have a significant impact on possession stats:

How much do zone starts matter part I: (Maybe) not as much as we thought
How much do zone starts matter part II: A lot on their own, not that much in aggregate

Individual shifts are impacted, but the total isn't impacted. Which makes sense if you think about it. It's not "56% of starts are in the offensive zone", it's "56% of either offensive or defensive zone starts are in the offensive zone". Offensive zone start% does not include on the fly starts (which account for like 50% of all shifts) or neutral zone starts. You're talking about a 12% difference on like 25% of shifts, it's really not significant.

But when we're talking about a 3% difference between his corsi/fenwick being impressive (53%) rather than average (50%), isn't that 12% of 25% actually fairly significant?

Hey credit where credit is due from the other thread. Still hope the Bruins have a second move here and that Kase isn't "the answer", but your idea was pretty close to what happened!

Thanks! I mean obviously I was a bit off on the value there with Beecher included but seems like we were pretty much putting the pieces together over on the Ducks board.

Nucks didn't have a first, and we have had our share of guys with head injuries already. Signed ferland and dorsett. They also retained on backes and he had one less year. Cost to the nucks in division likely would have had to include a second on top of what you said.

Some leafs fans in here saying this is a bad deal for the Bruins.

Makes me like it even more knowing that they don't like it.

The consensus in Leaf land is that this is a solid gamble by Bruins, but we're happy that they didn't get Kreider.

If the B's also get Kreider, Leaf fans will not be happy.

I think Anaheim got a lot for Kase. But I’ll assume that 1st will be a final 5 pick. I think Andersson will be a top 4 RHD. Pretty good trade for both teams if Kase maintains his health.

I'm back and forth on this. On one side, Ducks got hosed. To take on 75% of Backes contract should've been at least a 2nd++ by itself. Kase by himself should've been a 2nd++. Boston getting both for a 1st and a solid dman prospect, seems like a low price. Kase is injury prone and is probably 1 serious concussion away from retiring, so I don't blame the GM getting something for him. Still a little underwhelming if you ask me.

BOS likely out of Kreider sweepstakes.
Hoping he will stay in NY
revised # for me based on improved play is compromise
no more 6.25 x 5

instead of 50m for 7 yrs
I pay him 8 per IF he gives us some term, 5 yrs

BOS got out of Backes very cheap
gotta wonder if somebody didn't do somebody a favor...

I’d say the trade it pretty even tbh

The ducks get a first and a B prospect and take on Backes who can be utilized as a 4th liner and potentially replace Grant who will bring in an asset or two from another trade

Kase has concussion issues which makes up for taking Backes

also the Backes cap hit I don’t feel is viewed as a negative considering he has good underlying defensive stats just not very good offensive stats. The ducks can also afford a cap hit like his since they are rebuilding, i don’t know the term, but he’ll prob be on LTIR in a year or two, anyways, plus there’s a bit of his salary retained

All in all fair trade in my eyes

Getting Backes off the payroll for next year also helps dramatically for the Bruins to re-sign Krug (UFA) while also still keeping Debrusk (RFA). This is a win-win IMO - helps this year and into the future.

I don’t know, if Anaheim does that. Eriksson is signed for two more years, Backes only one year. Vancouver 1st on the other hand should be a bit higher than Boston’s. Still, easier to unload a bad contract that expires next year.

I think this was also about getting Backes out of Boston
