A history of the 'Council of Nicea', an early, formal consolidation of Christian doctrine. If you've recited the Nicene Creed at a church service, it is the summation of this doctrine. Book is almost written like a textbook, with relevant questions for readers to consider, and chapter summaries..

Cool book I started tonight.. At one point, Twain basically lost his money (mostly via high risk investing). So he went on a prototype of a comedy world tour. This is an accounting of Twain's tour.

Only speaking for myself, but I usually read 2 books a week (somewhat simultaneously). I have job(s) where I can read when it's slow.
Just started this one, that was mentioned earlier in the thread by tarheelhockey. An interesting history of something seeminly mundane & taken for granted: the naming of streets. The research ended up taking the author around the world..

Book that catalogs different Indian tribes that populate the Arctic. Each chapter is the history, culture, & current status of a different tribe (Aleuts, Inuit, Cree, etc).
The writing style and chapter-concluding questions make it look like it was created for classroom use..

Michener is the stuff my parents (& grandparents) used to read, but..
I haven't read any fiction for a while, so thought I'd check it out..

Reading for work. Decent read if you or someone you know has an issue with anxious thinking - but who doesn't these days?

Basically the whole overview is to embrace your anxiety , and not fear it, or run from it. As someone who has recovered from OCD(pure O) I have to agree with the message. Anytime I gave my OCD thoughts an emotional response, or fought them, OCD would grow into a monster, but anytime I welcomed them and didn't give an emotional response, it would pass and turn into , well, nothing. Eventually with time and practice you change the neuropathways within your brain and that new "whatever" approach to anxious thinking , ocd, panic, etc becomes automatic.

Would recommend if the subject is of interest.

8.5/10

Kind of an obscure read from the '80s I'd been looking for..
Basically the history of how Hawaii became American.

I think I have a dissident opinion on this subject..but I think both the annexation (& subsequent statehood) of Hawaii were not beneficial for average Americans or native Hawaiians. The Hawaiian independence movement seems to be fading in to obscurity, and Hawaiian statehood is solidly taken for granted now. But, who knows, maybe one day Hawaii & the US will peacefully go their separate ways. I hope..
