He is complete and utter garbage no matter where he plays

Have fun

about my expectation

There's this trend here where many think he'll be better in reduced minutes, or that he can make it as a bottom pairing D, but that's serious oversimplification imo.

He's one of the slowest players in the league and has negative puck skills and IQ. Playing him 12 minutes on the bottom pair will minimize the damage but you might as well stick with Sustr in that case cause he's better.

He's just so bad. I can't comprehend why Tampa did this.

Girardi isn't as bad as many would lead you to believe. He is good positionally, he is good physically and he is good in the crease. His deficiencies are in moving the the puck. He isn't going to skate the puck out of the defensive zone, probably ever, and he will rarely pass the puck out of the defensive zone. If your forwards are diligent about coming back and supporting the defense, Girardi will be good at getting the puck to them so they can get it out of the zone.

He is absolutely awful. He has an amazing personality and was a great Ranger for many years which is why you're probably getting some positive opinions in here.

He has been a traffic cone since the SCF in 2014.

I'm a Bolts fan. Is there any chance Girardi isn't horrible here?

He is not great but not as horrible as some say. He has some real pluses but age and injuries have taken their toll as well. He is extrememly well respected for good reason. Many fans including myself hope he comes back to our franchise in a non player way in the future. I'm happy he is getting 2 years and 6 mill from you guys. I will always root for him.

Don't listen to everyone telling you he's hot garbage. He's a pylon for sure, but he's still decent positionally, will help in the crease, can still win corner battles and will always be one of the best shot blockers in the business. If he plays primarily on the PK and gets 8-10 minutes of sheltered EV time each night you won't hate him and will probably come to appreciate his warrior mentality.

He's not worth the money you guys gave him, IMO, but he can still turn into something of use if utilized in a very specific manner.

I think he's gonna still be bad even if the system isn't man to man. He'll be better but that's not really saying much lol

This is basically the best thing you are going to see out of him.

His son is adorable. If you want cute father-son pictures, Dan and Landon are the way to go.

Would be better to use him in an offensive role. Hes actually better offensively than defensively. Imagine what some people think Shattenkirk is defensively, then imagine that at the AHL level. That is Girardis defense.

His offensive production is about that of a solid bottom pairing defense first dman though. Much better than what one would expect given how ****ing awful he is.

My biggest problem with G was his total inability to make a first pass or semi decently carry a puck out of the zone. As he got older his deficiencies became more and more prominent while his positives depreciated via a ton of hard hockey minutes.

you are getting a bottom 4 D at this stage of his career, he will give you his all. He is a great locker room presence and a role model.
You should put your faith in yzerman, who forgot more about hockey than a collection of posters will ever know.
There were a couple of teams interested, so you paid market value.
Good luck, I will be cheering for your team this season.

His hockey IQ is fine. It's his body that's not. He belongs on a young crappy team as a leader.

He can't play anymore. That contract is awful and I'm amazed somebody gave him that much over multiple years.

3rd pair, stay-at-home, off-the-glass-and-out defender. Will break every bone in his body for the W. You'll like him if the coach plays him accordingly.

He can be good. I think it depends on the system.
I'd prefer he stayed with the Rangers than Staal fwiw.

I'm very happy Dan was signed. His salary is debatable. I also might have made the 2nd year a team option but most Ranger fans do wish him well. He sacrificed his body as much as any player I have seen in the last 11 years.

Honestly, he was pretty damn solid in the postseason. Rangers overplayed him. Put him on the third pairing with maybe some shifts elsewhere and he should do fine.
